Being a Tutor to a Rich, Psychopathic Young Lady - Chapter 31
Chapter 31
Xiao Dengqu cried so hard that Shi Mingyue sat by the bed and comforted her for a long time, patting her on the back.
Shi Mingyue asked, “Is your dad not good to you? I can help you call him. Is it because of your grandma’s matter? That has nothing to do with you.”
Xiao Dengqu’s eyes were red. “He’s working. He’ll get angry if I call him.”
She took out her workbook from under the blanket and said, “I finished all of it.”
“Okay,” Shi Mingyue took the book and opened it. The paper was wet and the writing was smudged. It was obvious that she had been crying while she wrote. She was hurt by her dad, but she still insisted on finishing her homework.
Shi Mingyue put the notebook on the desk and looked at her physics solutions. Xiao Dengqu said, “I told him you praised me as a genius, but he still ignored me and said he wouldn’t love me anymore.”
Shi Mingyue said, “Xiao Dengqu, you’re a grown-up now. Don’t panic because someone says they don’t love you. You have to love yourself. Those are just threats.”
“Okay.”
“Thank you, teacher.”
Shi Mingyue held the red pen and carefully corrected the problems. Xiao Dengqu was lying on the bed, whispering something. No matter what she said, Shi Mingyue responded to every single one of her words.
After Shi Mingyue finished correcting the homework, Xiao Dengqu fell asleep on her bed, her fingers still clutching the corner of the pillow. Her eyebrows were furrowed, and her slightly upturned eyes were swollen.
Xiao Dengqu had an enviable quality of sleep, always seeming carefree. Her cheeks were a little plump, and she looked very harmless.
She must have been tired from crying, Shi Mingyue thought.
Immediately, Shi Mingyue understood that Xiao Dengqu wasn’t that obedient. She just didn’t know to what extent.
But when Shi Mingyue was laying out a soft mat on the floor, she had the presence of mind to look up at Xiao Dengqu and saw her with a pair of bright eyes wide open.
Perhaps she could understand Xiao Dengqu’s mischievousness, her defiant and willful young lady’s temperament. She would use every possible method to get what she wanted. If she couldn’t get it by being tough, she would be gentle.
The human body is supported by a frame of hard bones. When she was tough, she could kiss and touch, which always gave her a taste of sweetness, endless tenderness and intimacy. But the heart is made of flesh. When she was gentle, she could immediately go on the offensive as soon as Shi Mingyue wavered a little. She could get what she wanted by hugging her and acting spoiled.
Xiao Dengqu meticulously divided up the human heart.
That night, Xiao Dengqu still stayed.
Shi Mingyue turned off the lights and used her phone’s backlight to find her way to the soft mat and lie down.
Even though she had been sleeping on a soft bed for a long time, Shi Mingyue didn’t feel that the floor was hard when she lay down. The feeling wasn’t unfamiliar. Shi Mingyue remembered the first time she entered her college dorm. Even though she only had one set of sheets at the time, the loft bed and desk structure amazed her. She finally had her own exclusive corner.
Shi Mingyue turned to look at the person on the bed. With her eyes closed, Xiao Dengqu’s heart was pounding. The teacher was looking at her. She had to look at me before she went to sleep. She was looking at my eyes and my nose. Mm-hmm… she likes me.
She was still a little envious of Xiao Dengqu’s life.
Shi Mingyue thought about it and quickly fell asleep.
Xiao Dengqu was very excited.
Shi Mingyue was asleep, but Xiao Dengqu was still very energetic. She rolled up her blanket and lay down with Shi Mingyue, covering a little bit of Shi Mingyue and a little bit of herself.
She couldn’t wake her up. The teacher would tell her to get out.
But she really wanted to hold her finger.
Xiao Dengqu hooked her finger around Shi Mingyue’s.
Her heart felt so sweet. She was so satisfied. She sniffed the teacher’s scent. She was finally sleeping with the teacher.
She had to praise herself, so she had to give herself a kiss.
Mm-hmm.
…
In the morning, Xiao Dengqu woke up first.
She went to brush her teeth and wash her face. She carefully knelt on the floor and kissed Shi Mingyue’s forehead one kiss at a time. Then she kissed Shi Mingyue’s soft lips.
Finally, she took the key out of the pillowcase and went to the next room.
Xiao Dengqu changed her own clothes and quietly waited for the maid who served her. She held a pen and tapped the cup one tap at a time. “Yueyue, was it you who talked to my dad?”
Yueyue looked at her in confusion. “Talked about what?”
Yueyue picked up the clothes she had changed out of and said, “I don’t have Mr. Xiao’s contact information. I usually talk to the housekeeper about everything.”
“Oh.”
Xiao Dengqu smiled. “Mm-hmm, I really hate it when people lie to me.”
Yueyue thought to herself, “But aren’t you always lying?”
“Call Yangyang over,” Xiao Dengqu said.
Yangyang brought over some fruit. Xiao Dengqu told her to sit opposite her. Xiao Dengqu walked over and looked at her, staring into her eyes. Yangyang didn’t dare to look at her. Xiao Dengqu put down her pen and half-squatted in front of her.
“Mm, it was you, wasn’t it?”
The housekeeper arrived and successfully rescued Yangyang. Yangyang was about to cry. The housekeeper sighed and said, “Yangyang, you can go now.”
Yangyang looked at Xiao Dengqu, who was still half-crouching. “Young Lady…”
Xiao Dengqu’s eyes blinked, looking just like a cat in a fighting stance. She was usually cute, but when she got angry, she would make people tremble in fear.
“Okay,” Xiao Dengqu curled her lips. “I’m sorry, Yangyang. I just really hate it when people betray me. If you don’t betray me, I’ll be very happy.”
She was smiling, but Yangyang wanted to cry. Yangyang quickly got off the chair and ran out.
The housekeeper sighed. “Mr. Xiao probably found out from Fu Wanxing. You made her grandmother go to the hospital and you fought with her when she came back. Do you think she’d let you off the hook?”
“Is there proof?” Xiao Dengqu sat on the chair, resting her chin on her hand. She took a bite of a layered pastry.
Yangyang’s craftsmanship was pretty good. It was sweet and sour.
“She also snitched on Cheng Jin, saying that Cheng Jin liked Teacher Shi. Now Cheng Jin hasn’t come back from Shanghai yet,” the housekeeper said.
“Oh,” Xiao Dengqu nodded. That was true. She hoped Cheng Jin would never come back. The pastry in her mouth melted and became a little greasy. “I want to drink some tea!”
The housekeeper sent someone to prepare some flower tea. Xiao Dengqu pursed her lips, and her words carried a milky scent. “She’s so annoying. But her grandmother really likes her. It would be great if her grandmother could take her with her when she dies.”
“I really hope they die together.” Xiao Dengqu looked at the housekeeper, seeking approval. “Right?”
The housekeeper’s face was stern. She didn’t approve.
She said, “Young Lady, you’re 18 now. You’ve passed the age of innocent talk. You can’t say things like that anymore.”
Xiao Dengqu said “Oh” and was confused. “But why? You said… mm… why won’t uncle let me go out? It’s been so many years. Other kids are playing outside, but I have to stay inside?”
She asked with confusion. The housekeeper didn’t answer Xiao Dengqu’s question. Soon, she heard the key point. “Uncle? Where did you get an uncle?”
Xiao Dengqu didn’t answer her. She just snorted.
The housekeeper was confused and seemed to have an even bigger headache.
When the housekeeper came to the Xiao family, she knew there was a problem child here. At that time, Xiao Dengqu could still go to school, but she always had to go to the school for various reasons.
Sometimes it was because of Xiao Dengqu’s dressing style. Her school skirt was too short, and the school would call her in for a talk. Sometimes it was because of her grades, and the teacher would call her in for a talk. But most of the time, it was because Xiao Dengqu was being bullied. There was bubblegum in her hair, and her chair was covered in glue.
The housekeeper often went to the school to handle it and strongly demanded an explanation from the school. However, she knew that the problem wasn’t that simple.
Later, she brought Xiao Dengqu back. Xiao Chengyue no longer allowed Xiao Dengqu to go to school. Xiao Dengqu didn’t make a fuss and listened to Xiao Chengyue’s words, staying home and taking lessons obediently.
So, she was put in a cage and became a bird.
The housekeeper said, “You’re calling your dad ‘uncle.’ Aren’t you afraid he’ll really abandon you?”
Xiao Dengqu said, “Are you saying my dad might have an illegitimate child?” She thought about it. This was indeed a very serious problem.
“If Dad has an illegitimate child, it would be heartless for him to immediately make his deceased wife’s daughter call him ‘uncle.’ Wouldn’t Dad be cursed to death?”
The housekeeper was slightly shocked. Xiao Dengqu’s way of thinking sounded very random, but it was logical. If Xiao Chengyue really had an illegitimate child, Xiao Dengqu’s status wouldn’t change. She would still be the young lady of the house.
The housekeeper said, “Mr. Xiao probably doesn’t.”
“You’re not him,” Xiao Dengqu said. “I don’t care if he does or not. I’ve been here for so long, and I’m very obedient to my dad, but he doesn’t listen to me, so I hate ‘uncle’ now.”
When he was obedient, she called him “Dad.” When he was disobedient, she called him “uncle.”
“Besides,” Xiao Dengqu said seriously. “I have to love myself, love myself a lot. I can’t make things difficult for myself because of my dad.”
Hearing her words, the housekeeper’s heart skipped a beat.
The door was knocked on twice and then pushed open.
When Shi Mingyue came in, she saw that the expressions on the two people inside were a little strange. She asked in confusion, “What’s wrong?”
Xiao Dengqu said, “I’m guessing if my dad has an illegitimate child.”
Shi Mingyue thought that it was worth a guess. How could a person make their own daughter call them “uncle”? It was simply incomprehensible.
Xiao Dengqu pushed a cup of milk toward her. “Teacher, drink milk!”
Shi Mingyue was a little embarrassed. She didn’t drink it. She put a finger on her lips and shushed softly. Xiao Dengqu nodded hard.
The housekeeper left. The corners of Xiao Dengqu’s lips turned down. She became a little sad and said, “The housekeeper said my dad might really not want me anymore. Dad… might really have other kids.”
It was a normal occurrence for a wealthy family to have a child pop up from time to time. Shi Mingyue was also a little worried, but she had no way to deal with it. She sat opposite her and said, “I don’t have a dad. I used to regret it, but when I focused on my studies, I didn’t feel so much regret anymore. Xiao Dengqu, study hard. When you become strong yourself, you won’t crave for others to like you a lot.”
Xiao Dengqu held a fountain pen between her fingers. The pen was slightly heavy, and her fingers bent slightly. The pen trembled a little. Xiao Dengqu said, “Teacher, if I love you very, very much, and don’t make you crave love, do you want that?”
She looked into Shi Mingyue’s eyes, her gaze serious.
The lonely moon seemed to have met a star that followed her at this moment. The star swore to her that it would never leave her. Xiao Dengqu even lowered herself and looked up at her.
Seriousness always makes people’s hearts flutter, especially a teenage girl’s promises, which always carry a sweet fragrance. Shi Mingyue lowered her head and bit her lower lip.
Xiao Dengqu had no way of knowing what Shi Mingyue was thinking.
Seriousness often had two forms: a serious expression of one’s true feelings, or a serious lie. Shi Mingyue also had no way of knowing what Xiao Dengqu’s true intentions were. However, there was one thing Shi Mingyue was clear about. The princess locked in the ivory tower had enough impulse and passion. The tirelessly climbing Shi Mingyue did not. She was calm and not easily moved. She would rationally stay away from many offers of kindness.
Shi Mingyue said, “Okay, thank you. But please study seriously. Turn to the next unit and learn the new content.”
Because of the conflict between Xiao Dengqu and her father, Xiao Dengqu was always sullen. Shi Mingyue wanted to keep her distance, but she couldn’t be harsh on her at a time like this.
Every time she was tired of Xiao Dengqu’s pestering, she would still speak to her softly. At the same time, she couldn’t help but worry. How would Xiao Dengqu live after she left?
Xiao Dengqu’s life was too difficult.
She wasn’t loved by anyone. With a people-pleasing personality, she was always cautiously begging for others’ love. When she was bullied, she didn’t know how to complain, and there was no one she could complain to.
After that, their interactions were harmonious. Xiao Dengqu still wanted to install a monitor in Shi Mingyue’s room, but unfortunately, the housekeeper wouldn’t agree to her request.
Xiao Dengqu would send things to Shi Mingyue’s room from time to time, and she put a small teddy bear with a recording function on Shi Mingyue’s bedside. During her afternoon nap, she would secretly listen to the recording.
Shi Mingyue wasn’t a big fan of plush toys. She just moved the toy to another spot and stayed in her room quietly. Later, the bear became Xiao Dengqu’s exclusive property. When Xiao Dengqu went to pester Shi Mingyue, strange sounds started to appear on the recording, such as her secretly kissing Shi Mingyue, the lingering kissing sounds, her heartbeat, and her unsatisfied breathing.
Occasionally, there were also strange sounds.
Once, she faintly recorded the sound of water from a shower.
Because Xiao Dengqu always played with the small teddy bear, Shi Mingyue decided to wash the bear’s clothes and took it into the bathroom with her.
She wanted to shower with the teacher and kiss her. Xiao Dengqu liked her more and more and couldn’t bear to break up with the teacher.
She felt that her curiosity was at its peak.
Xiao Dengqu received two packages, some cat wands and cat toys. She also put them all in Shi Mingyue’s room. Shi Mingyue remembered the pet that Xiao Dengqu had. She asked Xiao Dengqu about it a few times. Xiao Dengqu said they had a fight, and the pet was so disobedient that it would tell her to go away and hurt her several times when it saw her.
Compared to these small things, Shi Mingyue was more curious about something else. How was Xiao Dengqu able to get into her room with a huge pile of things even when she had locked the door? Sometimes it was after her afternoon nap, and sometimes it was at night after she got out of the shower.
At first, Xiao Dengqu said that she hadn’t locked the door and she just pushed it open and walked in. But several times, Shi Mingyue had explicitly locked the door, and Xiao Dengqu could still get in. Xiao Dengqu asked, “Is the lock broken? Should I fix it for you?”
Shi Mingyue refused. Her contract was about to expire. She only had two or three days left, so there was no need to go to all the trouble of fixing the door.
Since she hadn’t made any requests, the housekeeper revised some of the residential regulations and printed out the contract to talk to Shi Mingyue in the study.
The housekeeper pushed the contract over to her. “There aren’t many changes. You’ll be starting school in September and facing graduation, so your studies are the priority. I won’t have a hard requirement for you to live here. But if you’re going to live at school, you’ll need to ask for my permission. And… you know the young lady likes to play a lot, so she’ll probably go to your school…”
Shi Mingyue said, “I don’t plan to renew the contract.”
“Huh?” The housekeeper stopped flipping through the documents and asked in confusion, “Why? Is something not suitable?”
But Shi Mingyue had rejected it without even looking at the contract. It was clear that she had made her decision beforehand.
Shi Mingyue knew that this choice was not rational. What if she needed money again? She clenched her fingers tightly. “That’s what I’m thinking right now.”
The housekeeper folded her hands and asked patiently, “Then what about your mother’s medical bills?”
Shi Mingyue didn’t say anything.
“Think about it. Read the contract. We can talk about whatever you need.” The housekeeper said, “Tell me your requirements for teaching time and teaching location.”
Rationally speaking, Shi Mingyue’s teaching was useful to Xiao Dengqu. The housekeeper could compromise on some things. This was also for Xiao Dengqu’s own good.
Shi Mingyue clenched her hands hard. “I’ll go back and look at it first.”
After saying that, she was about to leave. The housekeeper called out to her, “Take the contract with you and look at it. You have one day to consider.”
Shi Mingyue went back and took the contract.
Not long after she left with the contract, Xiao Dengqu pushed open the study door. She was here to ask the housekeeper for Shi Mingyue’s contract.
She had also taken the last contract and locked it in her collection box.
Xiao Dengqu opened her arms. “Give it to me.”
The housekeeper shook her head and said she hadn’t gotten Shi Mingyue to sign it yet.
Xiao Dengqu frowned. “Why?” She was very sharp and asked directly, “Did you not give it to her, or did she not want it?”
The young lady was always difficult to fool. The housekeeper said, “Let’s put the contract aside for now. I’ll tell you something else.”
Xiao Dengqu’s brows furrowed. She propped her hands on the desk and stared at her with a sullen expression.
She had indeed grown up. Her presence wasn’t as intense as it used to be. Now, the housekeeper was a little overwhelmed.
The housekeeper thought to herself that she couldn’t look at her like a child anymore.
“Your dad is coming back. His flight arrives tonight.”
Xiao Dengqu’s eyebrows shot up. This was too sudden. The housekeeper spoke before she could. “I just received the news. I wasn’t hiding it from you.”
Xiao Dengqu’s eyes were gloomy. “So annoying. Why is he coming back?”
The housekeeper said, “Didn’t you say you missed him so, so much?”
But every time she said it, he didn’t come back.
He never thought about me either and never came back to see me.
Xiao Dengqu sat down on the chair opposite the housekeeper. She propped her chin on her hand, and her cheeks puffed out. “Sister Ling, what do you think Dad is coming back for?”
The housekeeper looked up and smiled. “That trick doesn’t work on me. I don’t know what your dad is coming back for either. Shouldn’t you be asking yourself what you’ve done?”
“Oh.”
Xiao Dengqu propped her chin and thought. The housekeeper couldn’t figure out what she was thinking. She reminded her, “Be a little more obedient. Don’t make your dad angry.”
Xiao Dengqu stayed for half an hour and then ran off again.
Shi Mingyue was working on her computer in her room. Xiao Dengqu was lying on the bed playing with her tablet. The cheerful sound of an anime occasionally came from the tablet. Shi Mingyue looked over. The young girl’s legs were raised, her fair, tender legs occasionally bumping into each other. Shi Mingyue always had a strange illusion that this was very heartwarming…
A maid came to call them to go downstairs for dinner.
Shi Mingyue finished the last bit of her work. Xiao Dengqu put on her shoes and held her tablet. As they were about to leave, she grabbed Shi Mingyue’s hand without saying a word, her eyelashes fluttering slightly. It was a look that would make anyone feel sorry for her.
Shi Mingyue thought the housekeeper had told her about not renewing the contract. Shi Mingyue didn’t know how to comfort her, so she smoothed Xiao Dengqu’s messy hair behind her ear, hoping she would face it well.
As they went down the stairs, Shi Mingyue began to notice that the atmosphere in the house was off. When they got to the last step, Xiao Dengqu grabbed Shi Mingyue’s sleeve. Xiao Dengqu quickly let go, pretending to be a good girl who wouldn’t touch her.
Shi Mingyue’s heart ached a little.
A man in a black suit was sitting downstairs. The man was wearing silver-rimmed glasses, with his legs crossed, a silver laptop on his lap, and a mechanical watch on his wrist. He was refined and elegant, with an imposing aura.
Next to him was another man in a suit, holding a briefcase. It seemed like they had just returned and hadn’t finished their work yet.
From his appearance, he looked to be in his thirties. He looked up, his gaze sweeping over, and Shi Mingyue could tell immediately that he was Xiao Dengqu’s dad.
It wasn’t that the two of them looked alike. It was that their facial features were very similar. It was just that Xiao Dengqu wasn’t as sharp. Mr. Xiao was a cold, flat surface, while Xiao Dengqu was a soft curve.
Shi Mingyue couldn’t imagine what Xiao Dengqu would look like when she got older and her personality became as cold as her father’s. How unapproachable and serious would she be?
“Dengqu,” Xiao Chengyue looked up and called out to Xiao Dengqu, who was behind Shi Mingyue. He crossed his hands, and his tone was cold. “Come here.”
Xiao Dengqu walked out from behind Shi Mingyue. She held her tablet and took small steps to Xiao Chengyue. She obediently said, “Welcome home, uncle.”
Tom and Jerry was still playing on the tablet. Tom was grabbed by the neck by the dog. The dog beat Tom up, and Tom was so dizzy and miserable.
Xiao Chengyue frowned slightly, his expression not looking good. Xiao Dengqu continued to flatter him. “Uncle, I missed you so much.”
Xiao Chengyue still didn’t say anything.
“Did you bring me a gift?” Xiao Dengqu took a step forward and leaned against the side of the sofa. She held her tablet upright. “Mm-hmm… It’s okay if you didn’t. You’ve been working hard.”
“Have you eaten?”
Xiao Chengyue said, “Do you have to talk to me like this?”
Xiao Dengqu pouted and reached out to pull Xiao Chengyue’s arm. “I was wrong. Don’t be mad at me.” She then said in a flattering tone, “Your watch is nice. Did you just buy it?”
The flattery was so obvious that Shi Mingyue couldn’t stand it. She walked over, politely nodded to Xiao Chengyue, and said, “Xiao Dengqu, come here. I’ll explain a problem to you.”
Xiao Dengqu pulled Xiao Chengyue’s hand again. Xiao Chengyue didn’t respond. Xiao Dengqu snorted and walked over with her tablet. Shi Mingyue sat next to her and explained the problem to her.
Shi Mingyue could also feel the pressure. Xiao Dengqu would occasionally steal a glance at her father.
The special assistant lowered his head and spoke to Xiao Chengyue. Xiao Chengyue held a stylus and quickly signed his name.
The special assistant said, “Then, Mr. Xiao, I’ll be leaving now. I’ll arrange a video conference for you later. But you should probably adjust to the time difference first.”
The special assistant left. Xiao Chengyue got up and walked to the dining table. The maid thought it was time to eat and immediately went to notify the kitchen. The housekeeper also came down from upstairs.
However, Xiao Chengyue bent his finger and tapped on the table. “Teacher Shi, come upstairs with me.”
Shi Mingyue looked at him. Her heart skipped a beat, as if a teacher had suddenly called her to the stage to answer a question. She nodded. “Okay.”
Xiao Dengqu grabbed Xiao Chengyue and said pitifully, “I missed you too. Why can’t I go?”
Xiao Chengyue didn’t answer her and just pulled his hand back. Shi Mingyue thought for a few seconds and followed him upstairs.
After that, everyone saw the young lady, who was just acting pitiful and obedient, her face quickly turned cold. She furrowed her brows and said in a gloomy and sinister tone, “That stinky man.”
