Chapter 11: …Are You Still Going To Warm My Bed?
Chu Weiyue is taller than Jiang Yiqiu by a good bit, and her strength is much greater than that of Jiang Yiqiu, who has been physically weaker since childhood. With a little effort, she pulled the person into her arms.
One hand was wrapped around her waist, and the other held her hand.
Chu Weiyue is tall, and her hands are larger than those of other women her age, especially her fingers, which are long, fair, and clearly jointed.
She remembers in high school when the girls in her class, bored, decided to compare who had the biggest hands and longest fingers. Chu Weiyue “beat” every girl in the class, securing first place without a doubt.
That was the only first place Chu Weiyue got after entering high school.
It was a bit disheartening to think about.
Afterward, that guy, Pu Tao, spent several days holding her hand and muttering that not only did her face look good, but her hands were also beautiful—slender and long—and that he really wanted to chop them off and put them on himself.
Then, because his words were too gory, Chu Weiyue beat him up.
She remembered that Jiang Yiqiu had expressed distaste for Pu Tao’s actions.
What was the reason? She had forgotten the specifics.
Perhaps she was annoyed that he kept muttering incessantly.
Chu Weiyue was thinking about all sorts of random things, gently massaging Jiang Yiqiu’s hand to help her warm up.
She quietly said, “I’m sorry, I forgot you’re sensitive to the cold.”
Jiang Yiqiu’s voice was soft, like the evening breeze sweeping past the window: “It’s warm now.”
Chu Weiyue: “I’ll buy you a hot water bottle tomorrow.”
“No need.” Jiang Yiqiu shook her head. As she moved, her loose hair swayed, brushing against Chu Weiyue’s skin, which was slightly ticklish.
Chu Weiyue shifted her body, frowning slightly: “You’re obviously sensitive to the cold, so why not?”
Jiang Yiqiu nuzzled her head against Chu Weiyue’s neck and whispered, “Isn’t it because you’re here?”
Chu Weiyue was influenced by her. She always followed Jiang Yiqiu’s lead, and when the other person spoke, her mind would get hazy. She was right. With her here, it was simple and convenient. Why would she need anything else?
Jiang Yiqiu’s voice was soft and low, seemingly right next to her heart: “Will you help me warm my bed, okay?”
Before realizing there was anything wrong with the request, Chu Weiyue had already agreed: “Okay.”
As soon as she nodded, she immediately realized something was off.
Wait a minute, her helping to warm the bed was indeed simple and quick.
But didn’t that imply she was tacitly agreeing to sleep in the same blanket as Jiang Yiqiu?!
Chu Weiyue hesitated, thinking about how to refuse.
Sensing her hesitation, Jiang Yiqiu moved slightly, clinging to her like a boneless creature, pressing closer.
Her voice echoed softly in Chu Weiyue’s ear: “Yueyue, are you unwilling?”
“Without you, I’ll be too cold to sleep.”
Her legs were soft and long, the touch slick and cold, pressed tightly against warm skin, reminding one of a certain cold-blooded animal.
Chu Weiyue’s heart trembled, and she was immediately filled with guilt.
Jiang Yiqiu was naturally weak. Even before she was a year old, she had a fever every few days. Later, her parents neglected her, and she took medicine as often as she ate. Her complexion always held a sickly paleness, and she was frail and often ill, only getting a bit better as she grew older.
Despite this, she still had many small issues, such as a naturally cold constitution. She was okay in the summer, but in the winter, her hands and feet were often icy.
She had been with her since childhood, from when they first met in elementary school until now. Hadn’t they slept in the same blanket countless times?
Knowing that Qiuqiu needed her, needed her to warm the bed, yet she still hesitated—this was truly a betrayal of their many years of best-friendship!
Qiuqiu just wanted her to help warm her body. What could her ill intentions be?!
Thinking this, Chu Weiyue no longer hesitated. She gripped Jiang Yiqiu’s hands, which were slowly warming up, and hugged her even tighter. Then, she extended her legs and clamped them around Jiang Yiqiu’s legs.
Helping her warm up.
“Is it warmer like this?”
It turned out that Jiang Yiqiu didn’t need to do anything at all. As long as she crooked her finger, Chu Weiyue, who was most skilled at self-pua, would wag her tail and eagerly rush forward.
Chu Weiyue’s embrace was warm and strong, with a comforting sense of security.
The person who was freezing nestled in her arms, like a cat that had wandered outside for a long time and finally found a warm little nest. She snuggled obediently into the embrace, closed her eyes, and slept soundly.
It was a dreamless night.
Enveloped in warmth and security, Jiang Yiqiu had a rare good night’s sleep. However, when she was awakened by the alarm clock early in the morning, she was still in a very unpleasant mood, looking sullen and not speaking.
Her face clearly showed the message: “I’m unhappy, don’t bother me.”
Chu Weiyue was used to her morning grumpiness and let her sort out her mood on her own.
She was getting ready to go cook when Jiang Yiqiu just changed out of her pajamas.
Chu Weiyue leaned in and lowered her voice: “I’ll go cook first. You take your time getting ready.”
Just as she was about to leave, Jiang Yiqiu, with an expressionless face, unexpectedly opened her arms to her.
Without needing to say anything, Chu Weiyue understood and smiled helplessly. She immediately reversed her steps, half-squatted to meet Jiang Yiqiu, and lifted her off the bed.
Jiang Yiqiu was very light. Holding her felt like holding a soft-furred cat; when it’s happy, it lets you stroke it, and when it’s cranky, it might playfully flash its claws at its owner.
For some reason, Jiang Yiqiu was particularly clingy today. Usually, she would obediently go get ready after being picked up, but this time, she looped her arms around Chu Weiyue’s neck and wouldn’t let go.
Chu Weiyue patted her back and gently coaxed: “I need to go cook. Let go, okay?”
Her dark hair swept across Chu Weiyue’s neck. Jiang Yiqiu shook her head, her tone soft and nasal but very firm: “No.”
“Be a good girl. I need to go cook, or we’ll be late for work.”
Jiang Yiqiu paused for a second but remained insistent: “Hmm… Cooking is so tiring. Is it more comfortable than holding me?”
“…” Chu Weiyue’s mind didn’t process it immediately. She subconsciously wanted to say that holding her was indeed more comfortable, but then she realized, What kind of comparison is this? How can these two things be compared?
Chu Weiyue tried hard to persuade her. The two of them were humming and sticking together affectionately in the bedroom, unaware that someone was approaching outside the room.
Chu Mu said she was coming over today, and Chu Weiyue naturally assumed she meant in the evening, as they would be at work during the day and she would come in vain.
She never expected that her dear mother was an early riser with boundless energy and had tidied up and cheerfully arrived bright and early.
Knowing that both of them had to work and wouldn’t be able to lie in, she sent a message to let them know and came straight over.
Pushing the door open, the house was very quiet.
Not up yet?
Oh dear, young people nowadays love to sleep in. If they don’t get up soon, they’ll be late. Chu Mu thought to herself as she headed toward the master bedroom, intending to quickly wake them up.
She reached the door and was about to knock when she heard some unusual sounds coming from inside the room through the door.
“…How is cooking more comfortable than holding me?”
“…Are you still going to warm my bed?”
“Mmm… Don’t go, stay with me a little longer.”
“…”
Chu Mu was stunned.
She considered herself to be a relatively open-minded person, but she was still shocked to hear the commotion coming from inside.
This wretched girl! Her audacity was growing. How could she bring someone home?
Bringing someone home was one thing, but couldn’t she choose a different time? Yiqiu was still staying with her! How could she bring someone home while she was here? If she heard things she shouldn’t be hearing in the next room, what would she think!
Chu Mu’s eyebrows furrowed, and anger flared in her heart. She pushed open the bedroom door without hesitation and loudly said, “Chu Weiyue, you…”
The scene inside the room came into view, and the two people on the bed and the one person at the door froze simultaneously.
Chu Mu stammered: “You two… why are you…”
She widened her eyes and took a few seconds to straighten her tongue: “Isn’t there a guest room? Why are you sleeping together?”
Chu Weiyue, still holding Jiang Yiqiu in her arms, explained: “Qiuqiu is sensitive to the cold. It’s warmer for her to sleep with me.”
Jiang Yiqiu obediently let herself be held, her head buried in Chu Weiyue’s chest, showing only a small part of her pale profile, looking adorable and sleepy.
“Mom, what’s wrong? Why did you suddenly barge in and get so agitated? You scared us.”
A hint of embarrassment flashed across her mother’s face. Her mind raced, and she immediately put on a stern expression: “Look at the time! You two still aren’t up. I came to wake you up.”
She scolded them verbally, but inwardly, she let out a long sigh of relief.
She thought it was some random person. It turned out to be Yiqiu. Well, then it was fine.
Yiqiu was such a good person; she wouldn’t do anything bad to her daughter.
After all, her judgment of people had always been uncannily accurate.
