Chapter 18: What Is Wrong With Her? Her Thoughts Are Getting Dirtier and Dirtier!
Although the fever had broken, considering Jiang Yiqiu’s weak constitution, Chu Weiyue still made her rest at home. Her health was the most important thing, to prevent a relapse.
Chu Weiyue then remembered an important matter.
Jiang Yiqiu’s nightmare—she wanted to try and find out if she knew anything about the plot.
Too many things had happened last night; she couldn’t keep track of it all. Now that she remembered, she was a little nervous about implementing the plan.
She knew that probing someone was a delicate skill, and she wasn’t suited for it; she could easily be found out.
However, to investigate the plot, she decided to make an effort.
“Qiuqiu, you had a nightmare last night, did you know?”
As she spoke, she started to feel wronged again: “I’m pretty sure you slapped me because you were having a nightmare.”
Jiang Yiqiu was a little embarrassed and apologized again.
Chu Weiyue very generously forgave her: “Then do you remember what you dreamed about last night, and why you suddenly hit me?”
The calm expression on Jiang Yiqiu’s face faltered for a second, but she quickly composed herself and frowned: “I… I don’t remember clearly.”
Chu Weiyue tried to remind her: “I heard you say something about not letting me go, that it was dangerous, and things like that. Can you recall any fragments?”
Jiang Yiqiu showed an effort to recall, pursing her lips and pondering for a moment: “I think… I dreamt that we were in a huge cave, and you insisted on going out to find food. Outside was a large, particularly dark forest. I was worried you would run into danger and wanted to stop you… The rest, I can’t really remember.”
Chu Weiyue’s expectant face instantly drooped. This sounded exactly like a dream-only scenario; how could it appear in reality?
It seemed she had indeed overthought it. She was the only one who knew the plot.
Chu Weiyue felt an even greater sense of mission, and the burden on her shoulders became a bit heavier.
Since only she knew the plot, she had to maintain their revolutionary friendship and follow her heart!
The facts proved Chu Weiyue’s worries were correct. Near noon, her temperature rose again, approaching $38^circtext{C}$. Chu Weiyue didn’t dare leave and stayed by her side the entire time.
After resting for most of the afternoon, the temperature rose instead of falling, and she had to take another dose of fever reducer. Chu Weiyue sat on the bedside and helped her sit up: “Take the medicine before you sleep again.”
Jiang Yiqiu was half-asleep and half-awake. Hearing Chu Weiyue’s voice, she mumbled a low affirmative, not fully hearing what she said.
Chu Weiyue held the cup in one hand and the medicine in the other, offering them to her. Jiang Yiqiu barely opened her eyes. Looking at the pill handed to her, she frowned slightly.
“Bitter.”
She was clearly resistant to the unpleasant taste.
Chu Weiyue found it amusing and coaxed her softly: “It’ll go down with one sip of water. I’ll get you a piece of candy after you take the medicine, okay?”
Jiang Yiqiu’s reaction was a bit slow. After a few seconds, she lightly hummed an agreement, but didn’t reach out for the medicine. She leaned in toward Chu Weiyue’s palm.
Chu Weiyue was amused internally. Such a grown-up acting lazy like a child. She complied with her action, pinching the pill and bringing it to her lips.
Jiang Yiqiu’s soft, shiny hair cascaded down like a waterfall with her movement, contrasting with her porcelain-white skin, which looked like it had been washed clean. Chu Weiyue subconsciously lowered her head and saw the other person’s bright red lips and a tiny, pale pink tip of the tongue reaching out, about to touch her finger and consume the pill.
Chu Weiyue was momentarily stunned, lost in a daze.
Qiuqiu looks so… beautiful like this.
The next second, her body suddenly twitched slightly, and she withdrew her hand as if shocked by electricity.
—The moment Jiang Yiqiu took the pill into her mouth, her tongue barely, imperceptibly, grazed her finger.
Leaving a slight trace of dampness.
Chu Weiyue’s eyes widened slightly. The dampness was negligible, yet she felt like she had been licked by a flame. That small patch of skin almost burned, causing her to instinctively and quickly pull her hand back.
Chu Weiyue nearly jumped off the bed. Qiuqiu, Qiuqiu, what was that?
Jiang Yiqiu was startled and looked up at her: “What’s wrong?”
Her eyes were clear and innocent, as if she hadn’t done anything.
Chu Weiyue, who had been thinking of irrelevant things, snapped back to reality when she met Jiang Yiqiu’s gaze. Seeing such an expression, no one would believe she had done anything on purpose.
Chu Weiyue really wanted to punch herself in the head. Ah, ah, ah, what is wrong with her? Her thoughts are getting dirtier and dirtier! It was just taking medicine. Why is she thinking about such things?
She felt the need to run twenty laps downstairs to calm down.
Jiang Yiqiu didn’t get the cup and finally couldn’t help but speak in a low, mixed voice of confusion and grievance: “Water…”
“Oh, oh, oh, I almost forgot.” She quickly handed over the cup. Jiang Yiqiu didn’t take it either. She slowly leaned in, drinking a few sips from Chu Weiyue’s hand.
Her throat moved slightly. The medicine was swallowed. Then, she looked at Chu Weiyue again.
Chu Weiyue’s mind still hadn’t fully recovered. She stared at her blankly: “What is it?”
Jiang Yiqiu’s delicate brows furrowed, and she uttered a single word: “Bitter.”
Chu Weiyue instantly understood.
—What about the promised candy?
“Right, right, right, look at my brain.” She frantically rummaged through drawers and found the candy the patient wanted. Only then was the task complete.
However, that strange sensation lingered in her heart, causing Chu Weiyue to unconsciously rub the tip of her finger on that hand.
The fever finally broke before bedtime, and it didn’t relapse until the next morning. Now that the illness was managed, both of them were busy people. They had work and didn’t take any more leave, going back to their respective jobs.
Two days flew by, and the weekend arrived.
On Friday night, after showering and lying in bed, Chu Weiyue could finally relax and play some games.
She was lying on the bed in the bedroom, playing on her phone. Jiang Yiqiu still had some work to finish, so she went to the adjacent bedroom to focus on business first.
Staring at the dizzying array of data in the somewhat quiet room, Jiang Yiqiu took a break and picked up her phone, only to see her four-person chat group spewing out messages.
It was mainly one person having a solo blast.
TheGrapeEater:Got any free time this weekend? It’s been a while since the four of us got together. We should have a good time.
TheGrapeEater:@everyone, are you there? Are you all here? Come chat.
This was followed by dozens of similar, uninteresting messages.
After calling out Meng Linchen, she started tagging the other two.
MoonBender-Qiu:I’m free. I can make it.
TheGrapeEater:Hurry up, let’s discuss our four-person weekend bonding plan.
Pu Tao (TheGrapeEater) had wanted to see them for a long time, especially Jiang Yiqiu, whom she hadn’t seen in two years and missed greatly. However, she was too busy with company matters. She worked during the day, and they lived far apart, so going back and forth at night was too much trouble. They could only schedule it for the weekend.
XiaoMengWorkingHard:Can we use a different word? Whenever I hear “bonding,” I think of my cursed company docking holiday pay and making dumplings. I really don’t want to associate with it at all.
TheGrapeEater:Fine. Is everyone free this weekend? If you are, type 1.
MoonBender-Qiu:1
TheGrapeEater:What about you, Linchen? Not free?
XiaoMengWorkingHard:I have to work overtime tomorrow and the day after (white flag)
TheGrapeEater:Tsk, tsk, tsk, that’s too tragic. I pity you for a second. Alright, then I’ll represent the two of us at this gathering.
TheGrapeEater:@SunSmoosher-Yue, where are you? Hurry up, we’re only missing you for this emergency meeting.
She @ her several times, but there was still no response.
TheGrapeEater:@MoonBender-Qiu, why don’t you @ her?
MoonBender-Qiu:? What’s the difference between your @ and mine?
TheGrapeEater:Just call her. Trust me, it’s the right thing to do.
Jiang Yiqiu didn’t understand why, but she did as told.
MoonBender-Qiu:@SunSmoosher-Yue
There was almost no time delay—
SunSmoosher-Yue:Present! What are your orders, Miss Qiu?
SunSmoosher-Yue:[Puppy standing at attention.jpg]
XiaoMengWorkingHard:… LOL
TheGrapeEater:Hehehehe, I knew it! The familiar formula, the familiar flavor.
Chu Weiyue paused on her end. After reading the message history, she realized what was happening.
SunSmoosher-Yue:@TheGrapeEater, aren’t you annoying? Don’t you know I’m busy? Are you going to take the heat from my teammates because my character died? It’s bad enough you’re bothering me, but you had to drag Qiuqiu into it too.
SunSmoosher-Yue:I’m free. It’s settled. Meeting adjourned.
TheGrapeEater:Personnel confirmed. Just the three of us. We’ll gather next time, Linchen.
TheGrapeEater:How about we meet up tomorrow and go shopping?
Two messages popped up almost simultaneously.
SunSmoosher-Yue:We just went shopping two days ago. Shopping is too boring. I’m not going, not going.
MoonBender-Qiu:Sounds good. Going out for a stroll is quite nice.
The next second.
“SunSmoosher-Yue” retracted a message
SunSmoosher-Yue:Sounds great, sounds great. It’s been a while, and I miss it. I love shopping the most!
TheGrapeEater:…
XiaoMengWorkingHard:… LOL
TheGrapeEater:I mean…
SunSmoosher-Yue:What time should we meet tomorrow, and which mall?
TheGrapeEater:Chu Weiyue, you…
SunSmoosher-Yue:How about we come to our place after shopping?
TheGrapeEater:No…
SunSmoosher-Yue:OK, great, it’s decided!
Pu Tao couldn’t take it anymore: Love it the most? We all saw what you wrote!!!
