Chapter 19: I’m With Her, Now Get Lost!
Chu Weiyue was heavily mocked by Pu Tao for her quick retraction in the group chat, but she didn’t take it to heart at all.
Can this be called instantly chickening out? It was clearly upholding the correct stance and choosing the right side.
The three of them settled on a time and place, consoled the resentful, overworked Meng Linchen, and ended the conversation.
Early Saturday morning, Chu Weiyue accompanied her mother, Mrs. Chu, to the hospital for a physical examination. Some results would take a few days, but the doctor gave the mother and daughter the ones that were ready that day.
With the data in hand, Chu Weiyue spoke with much more authority, listing off a multitude of complaints to her mother and scolding her about all her bad lifestyle habits.
Although Mrs. Chu had poor habits, seeing the indicators on the physical exam report, she only dared to quietly argue a few points and obediently listened to the arrangements.
Chu Weiyue took her home, and before leaving, didn’t forget to issue an “ultimatum,” telling her to follow the doctor’s orders and that she would check on her next time she visited.
Approaching noon, Chu Weiyue and Jiang Yiqiu left home together to meet Pu Tao outside the shopping mall. Parking in the underground garage and returning to the first floor, they saw a girl waving and shouting as she ran toward them from a distance.
Pu Tao was petite compared to the two of them, about 1.6 meters tall, with a pleasing baby face. Her hair was casually tied back in a low ponytail, and her attire was simple.
From over ten meters away, Chu Weiyue saw her running over, arms wide and waving excitedly. She smiled helplessly at Jiang Yiqiu: “Honestly, at this age, she’s still like a child, getting so excited.”
Even as she said that, she smiled and cooperatively spread her arms, waiting for the person to run over.
The next second, she felt a gust of wind. The excited person running over bypassed her and “whooshed” right in front of Jiang Yiqiu, embracing her tightly: “Qiuqiu, long time no see. I miss you so much.”
Chu Weiyue, standing with her two arms sticking out like a coat rack: …
The smiling mask on Chu Weiyue’s face cracked for a second. She immediately readjusted. Turning back, she saw Pu Tao practically hanging off Jiang Yiqiu, chattering about something. Her eyebrows shot up, and she was instantly enraged.
How bold!
She walked over with a scowl and peeled Pu Tao off the other person: “What are you doing? Getting all handsy the moment we meet? Is my Qiuqiu someone you can hug just like that?”
Pu Tao couldn’t help but roll her eyes, but she still let go of Jiang Yiqiu under Chu Weiyue’s powerful tugging. She said sarcastically: “Ah, yes, yes, yes, it’s my fault. I shouldn’t be getting all handsy and randomly hugging your Qiuqiu.”
The two exchanged a few barbs. Under the mediation of the peacemaker, Jiang Yiqiu, they reconciled and entered the mall together.
Chu Weiyue teased: “Why didn’t you put on any makeup?”
Pu Tao waved her hand: “We’re so close; do I need to be formal? I’m meeting friends, not a date. Let’s go, let’s go.”
Chu Weiyue remembered her own fully made-up, meticulously dressed appearance when picking up Jiang Yiqiu and internally scoffed. No sense of occasion whatsoever.
Since they were cooking lunch, they first had to purchase fresh ingredients.
The three of them browsed the seafood and meat sections and arrived at the fruit and vegetable section, which Chu Weiyue both loved and hated.
Whether she liked it or not, Jiang Yiqiu’s intentions were not swayed by her will. She confidently placed vegetables into the shopping cart. Chu Weiyue could only watch silently, daring not to voice her anger.
After she finished selecting, Chu Weiyue quietly added a box of spinach.
Pu Tao was surprised: “So proactive? Didn’t you hate eating that?”
Chu Weiyue stated it as a matter of course: “I don’t eat it, but Qiuqiu loves it.”
Pu Tao: … Fine.
Next, they moved to the fruit section. After picking a few types of fruit, Chu Weiyue saw the various types of apples neatly organized. Her mind automatically played the dream about apples from before—the biting, the touching—and she unconsciously blushed.
Blushing, she said: “Let’s buy some apples.”
Pu Tao: “You like apples? I never heard you mention it before.”
“I only started liking them recently.” Chu Weiyue spoke with conviction: “Apples are delicious and nutritious. We should eat more. ‘An apple a day, keeps the doctor away,’ you know?”
“I know, I know you’re an English teacher.”
The three chatted excitedly as they walked. A man suddenly appeared in front of them, blocking their path.
Three puzzled gazes simultaneously turned to him.
Chu Weiyue: “Hello, can we help you?”
The man’s expression was very natural, carrying a degree of self-perceived politeness, though it might appear slightly greasy to others. He clearly didn’t think there was anything wrong with publicly stopping people; he was clearly a bold, outgoing person.
His gaze landed on Jiang Yiqiu: “Miss in white, may I please have your WeChat?”
Jiang Yiqiu had encountered this scenario countless times since she was a child and was long used to it.
Pu Tao, standing nearby, also sighed. Here we go again.
As Jiang Yiqiu’s good friend, she was equally used to such scenes. But her sigh was for another reason.
Because of her outstanding looks, Jiang Yiqiu’s admirers had been non-stop since elementary school, through university, and into her professional life. She was often suddenly handed love letters on campus or asked for her contact information on the street. Every holiday like Christmas or Qixi Festival, she would receive a mountain of gifts.
And her admirers were gender-neutral, appealing to both men and women.
However, despite the constant admirers and her excellent interpersonal skills, Jiang Yiqiu had never dated. Regardless of Jiang Yiqiu’s own willingness, the main reason she hadn’t been able to date was—
“Sorry, she doesn’t date.” Chu Weiyue said coolly, shielding Jiang Yiqiu behind her.
Whether Jiang Yiqiu liked it or not, this fiercely protective deity by her side, who was dedicated to snipping all potential romances, successfully deflected every person who tried to confess or start a relationship with her.
For confessions in elementary and middle school, Chu Weiyue was righteous and stern: Qiuqiu is the top of her grade. Puppy love must not delay her studies. For university confessions, Chu Weiyue was rational and fact-based: University coursework is so heavy—classes, papers, labs, internships—romance must not delay Qiuqiu from getting a perfect GPA and winning national awards. And now that Jiang Yiqiu was working—
Pu Tao rolled her eyes: “What excuse do you have now?”
Chu Weiyue was still self-assured and confident: “Twenty-four is a critical age for career growth. Little things like romance must not delay Qiuqiu’s bright future.”
She then puffed out her chest, full of integrity, and tried to justify herself: “What do you mean ‘excuse’? This is a legitimate and reasonable reason. It’s for her own good.”
Pu Tao: … I can’t even bother to argue.
As for this sudden encounter with a “roadblock,” it was naturally the same as before.
Jiang Yiqiu quietly explained that this man had approached her twice before. He was rejected each time and didn’t even get her name, let alone her contact information, but he was still persistent.
Chu Weiyue frowned. While I was away, such a clingy, persistent annoyance dared to harass Qiuqiu.
After that, Jiang Yiqiu just stood there smiling without saying a word, serving as a pleasing statue of a beauty, letting Chu Weiyue handle it for her.
Usually, when Chu Weiyue refused on her behalf, that was the end of it. But this man was truly stubborn. He showed no intention of leaving. Instead, he moved around Chu Weiyue and looked at Jiang Yiqiu: “Miss, what is your intention?”
Chu Weiyue was annoyed. Does this person not understand human language? I already rejected him on her behalf, and he’s still pestering her.
Jiang Yiqiu didn’t spare him a glance, keeping her eyes on Chu Weiyue. She looked slightly helpless: “Yueyue, he says he wants to give me flowers.”
Chu Weiyue stepped forward without hesitation: “He doesn’t need to. I’ll buy you flowers.”
The man gritted his teeth: “You don’t have to be so quick to refuse, do you? I actually wanted to invite you to dinner, we could…”
Jiang Yiqiu: “He also wants to invite me to dinner.”
“I’ll invite you to dinner.”
“He also wants to give me a gift…”
Chu Weiyue learned to jump the gun and preemptively struck: “I’ll give you gifts!”
This kind of person, who causes trouble in public regardless of propriety, is the most annoying. The man, completely unaware of his inappropriateness, actually became angry and loudly proclaimed: “What business is it of yours? Are you her partner? You handle this, and you handle that. If you’re so capable, why don’t you just get together with her!”
Chu Weiyue was so irritated by him. Oh, you’re the only one who can be loud, huh? Her voice was even louder than his. She retorted without thinking: “We are together! I’m with her, now get lost!”
The words were like a thunderclap, instantly silencing the man and everyone around them. They stared, shocked, at the overly bold young woman.
Chu Weiyue’s mind hadn’t caught up. She was simply basking in her own triumph.
All bark and no bite, eh? Was he subdued by my mighty aura?
