Chapter 5: Does It Feel Good to Touch?
Chu Weiyue felt that she wouldn’t be able to continue applying the medicine this time.
Her palm touched the other person’s skin. The person being touched hadn’t reacted much, but the one applying the medicine, she was already blushing, her head buzzing.
Jiang Yiqiu had a special constitution. Bumps and bruises were inevitable growing up, and it was always Chu Weiyue who applied the medicine. She had become skilled and developed a technique. She was always fast and good at the job, and the recipient never gave a bad review.
She had never been in a situation like this, where she couldn’t bring herself to do it.
Her hands were covered in medicated oil. She forced herself to concentrate. It’s just applying medicine. What’s the big deal?
If it weren’t for the substance on her hands, she would genuinely want to slap herself twice to wake up.
Chu Weiyue took a deep breath, telling herself to calm down.
She finally managed to stabilize her emotions and start working, but Jiang Yiqiu let out a few soft whimpers, and Chu Weiyue lost it again.
Chu Weiyue stammered: “D-d-did I hurt you?”
Jiang Yiqiu bit her lower lip: “No pain.”
But her face, from her cheeks to her neck, was stained with a crimson flush, turning her into a delicious-looking, molten-centered red bean bun that would leak filling if you bit into it.
Chu Weiyue swallowed hard, speechless and hesitant. After a few seconds of careful silence, she finally spoke: “Should I… should I continue?”
“Mmm.”
Chu Weiyue silently recited the Great Compassion Mantra in her heart, just barely managing to calm down.
Afterwards, thanks to Jiang Yiqiu’s cooperation and the countless times Chu Weiyue had performed this task, she slowly got the hang of it and finally shook off the awkward atmosphere.
Jiang Yiqiu’s skin was as lustrous as soft jade, gleaming with a gentle sheen. If it were a genuine jade artifact, its owner would surely play with it repeatedly, unable to put it down.
For some indescribable reasons, during the next half hour of applying the medicine, neither of them spoke.
Jiang Yiqiu wasn’t talkative to begin with, but Chu Weiyue was also uncharacteristically unable to find a topic. One sat and the other knelt. One was still and the other moved, silently waiting for the session to end.
Only a warm, seductive atmosphere grew and spread in the room, lingering for a long time.
After working for a while, Chu Weiyue felt she was done. She stopped her movements, her voice slightly hoarse when she finally spoke: “How is it?”
She cleared her throat, suspecting it was because the room was too dry and hot.
I need to buy a humidifier, otherwise, how can Qiuqiu’s delicate body endure it?
Jiang Yiqiu nodded: “Much better.”
Chu Weiyue let out a breath, wiping the faint sweat on her forehead, feeling a sense of relief.
They had worked hard for quite a while, and the medicine was finally applied. Chu Weiyue felt like she had completed a massive project. She mused that even staying up for three straight nights preparing courseware for her teaching competition hadn’t been this tiring.
The medicated oil was put away, and the messy sheets and duvet were tidied up. Chu Weiyue picked up her phone. The person saved as “Grape” had sent a message 5 minutes ago.
Asleep yet?
Chu Weiyue replied, “No,” and a voice call came through immediately.
Connecting the call, a lazy female voice came through: “Hello?”
Chu Weiyue: “Not a video call, but a voice call? Are you shy after a few days of not seeing me?”
Pu Tao scoffed, deliberately drawing out her words: “You and your Qiuqiu are like a newlywed couple after a brief separation, dry wood meeting a fierce fire. I’m afraid if I video-call, I’ll see things I shouldn’t and burn my eyes.”
Chu Weiyue was used to this person’s lack of filter and wild talk. She was about to retort casually.
Before she spoke, she suddenly remembered that when Pu Tao messaged her five minutes ago, she was just finishing applying medicine to Jiang Yiqiu’s legs, with two fair, tender legs waving in front of her. Guilt rushed in, and she couldn’t bring herself to retort.
Afraid that Pu Tao would notice something unusual, she quickly changed the subject: “We’re about to sleep. State your business, or you may take your leave.”
“It is this servant’s crime to disturb Her Majesty and the Empress’s rest,” Pu Tao apologized facetiously, pinching her voice.
After exchanging a few bantering words, Pu Tao got down to business: “I saw your Moments that Yiqiu is back. I am calling to convey greetings from Comrade Lin Chen from afar.”
Chu Weiyue smiled in response: “Alright, thanks. I, on behalf of myself and Comrade Yiqiu, express our gratitude to you.”
“With the great beauty Jiang back, should I be prepared to abdicate and surrender my throne as your best friend?” Pu Tao’s tone was sour.
“What are you saying?” Chu Weiyue immediately retorted, “What do you mean ‘surrender the throne’? When were you ever sitting on it?”
“Chu Weiyue!” Pu Tao gnashed her teeth over the phone. “You can’t even be bothered to humor me.”
“Fine, fine, I’ll humor you.” Chu Weiyue was very insincere: “There will always be a place for you in my heart, even if it’s just a small corner.”
“You fickle thing. The old saying goes: ‘You only see the new bride smile, never hear the old one cry.'”
“Don’t talk nonsense.”
“How is it nonsense? The first time we met, when you stole my deskmate, our feud began!”
Chu Weiyue was torn between laughter and tears: “You’ve been feuding for so long, and you’re still willing to stay by my side? You have incredible tolerance.”
Pu Tao rolled her eyes fiercely across the network.
She was referring to something that happened in second grade.
In the second grade of elementary school, Chu Weiyue transferred mid-year to their class, Jiang Yiqiu and Pu Tao’s class.
Before class that day, the teacher brought in a beautiful, lively girl whose eyes seemed to speak.
Little Pu Tao thought to herself: She’s really pretty, almost as pretty as my deskmate. She immediately felt a strong liking for her.
Before this, Jiang Yiqiu was universally acknowledged as the best-looking student in the entire grade.
Some boys even said they wanted to date Jiang Yiqiu.
They really say whatever comes to mind. So childish. Little Pu Tao scoffed internally.
Jiang Yiqiu would never like them.
She’s my deskmate, she won’t have anything to do with them.
After the self-introduction, the whole class applauded enthusiastically. The teacher arranged a seat for the new student.
Although they were young, everyone appreciated beauty. Looking at the beautiful girl on the podium, the students below were both expectant and nervous, wondering who the teacher would pair her with.
It was elementary school then. The school wasn’t strict and didn’t have rules against boys and girls being deskmates to prevent puppy love. Some of the “childish” boys in the class became restless.
Little Pu Tao secretly pouted.
Some students who had been deskmates for a long time and were close held each other’s hands, gazing eagerly at the teacher, afraid of being separated.
But Pu Tao wasn’t afraid.
She and Yiqiu were very close, having been deskmates from first grade to second grade.
The teacher had said that both she and Yiqiu had quiet personalities and weren’t prone to roughhousing like others, making them very suitable deskmates.
Little Pu Tao was secretly delighted. She wanted to be Jiang Yiqiu’s deskmate forever and ever.
Then the teacher spoke, moving her away from Jiang Yiqiu and having the new girl take the spot she had occupied for a year and a half.
Little Pu Tao’s world collapsed.
Her year-and-a-half-long deskmate friendship was thus brutally severed!
The teacher said the new student was Jiang Yiqiu’s neighbor. She was worried that the new student would be shy, and having a familiar person lead her would help her integrate into the class faster.
Although Pu Tao was unwilling, she had no choice but to listen to the teacher.
Just like now, when Jiang Yiqiu returned, she asked Chu Weiyue about the “best friend” situation. Back then, little Pu Tao also asked Jiang Yiqiu a similar question about “best friends.”
Jiang Yiqiu had been thoughtful since childhood, so she wouldn’t heartlessly stab her friend like Chu Weiyue. But she remained silent.
Little Pu Tao was shocked.
For the sake of the new student, her best friend had implicitly rejected her!
Little Pu Tao’s heart ached.
She comforted herself, It’s okay. The seat change is only temporary. I’ll have plenty of chances to steal Jiang Yiqiu’s deskmate spot back later.
Little Pu Tao didn’t know then that this act of “stealing” would last for over a decade.
Afterwards, whether by coincidence or truly fate, she, Chu Weiyue, and Jiang Yiqiu were always assigned to the same class. And every time, the teacher always arranged for Chu Weiyue and Jiang Yiqiu to be deskmates. She could only watch silently from the side.
This continued from elementary school to middle school. Then in high school, Jiang Yiqiu was going to the advanced class. Chu Weiyue’s grades were significantly lower. Pu Tao thought they might finally be separated, but Chu Weiyue studied desperately, forcing her way into the advanced class.
She studied even harder under Jiang Yiqiu’s supervision for three years of high school and went to the same university.
In university, the concept of deskmates was gone, but the two were inseparable on campus.
Although it was inappropriate, Pu Tao strongly felt like the childhood friend who couldn’t beat the newcomer.
I met Jiang Yiqiu first!
Damn it.
It wasn’t until much later that Pu Tao learned that this “deskmate” situation for all those years was entirely Jiang Yiqiu’s doing. As the top student who always ranked first, the teachers naturally wouldn’t refuse her small request.
Pu Tao even began to harbor a conspiracy theory: the reason the teacher moved her and made Chu Weiyue and Jiang Yiqiu deskmates in second grade was also Jiang Yiqiu’s idea.
It was that initial event that made Jiang Yiqiu realize the benefit, leading to Pu Tao’s loss for the next decade.
Of course, Jiang Yiqiu would definitely deny it, claiming she wasn’t that childish.
Hehehehehe, I don’t believe her.
Recalling all the past events, Pu Tao felt as if she were reliving the sorrow and helplessness. The deep sadness lingered: “The feud over stealing my deskmate is unforgivable.”
“…” She looked like she was gritting her teeth. Chu Weiyue’s mouth twitched. “I didn’t say anything. Why are you angry again?”
“Just because you haven’t said anything now, does the pain you caused me in the past just disappear?”
Chu Weiyue defended herself: “You can’t blame me! Qiuqiu chose the deskmate situation herself!”
Then, Jiang Yiqiu, who had been silent on the side, suddenly spoke: “Mmm, I chose it.”
“…” Jiang Yiqiu killed the argument with five words. Pu Tao choked.
Pu Tao’s chest hurt. Each word, one after the other, felt like a needle poking her heart, reminding her that the other two were running towards each other, and she was merely being sentimental.
Pu Tao, embarrassed and angry: “The two of you teaming up to bully me! I’m not talking to you anymore!”
The call finally ended with Pu Tao’s frustrated accusations.
Chu Weiyue shrugged helplessly: “Such an adult, yet still so childish.”
Chu Weiyue had to work tomorrow. Although she wasn’t a homeroom teacher and didn’t have to be at school by seven for morning study, she still had to get up early. After the call, she prepared to turn off the light and sleep.
Looking at Jiang Yiqiu lying next to her, Chu Weiyue once again recalled the System’s words.
Sleeping in the same bed… climbing into her covers… having wicked intentions towards her…
Chu Weiyue swallowed.
First, she firmly believed in Jiang Yiqiu’s character. She would absolutely not do such a thing.
Second, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Chu Weiyue withdrew the hand that was about to turn off the light. Under Jiang Yiqiu’s questioning gaze, she moved her duvet closer and closer to the side of the bed, trying to maximize the distance between them.
Chu Weiyue thought her behavior was strange, but she still braced herself and did it.
A very clear gap was created between the duvets. She also placed a pillow vertically in the middle. Chu Weiyue spoke: “I don’t sleep well. Let’s draw a line. No one is allowed to cross it, so I don’t disturb your sleep.”
Jiang Yiqiu raised an eyebrow: “You don’t sleep well? How come I don’t know that?”
Chu Weiyue lied brazenly: “It’s a recent problem this year. The stress in my line of work is high. Having some small issues is normal.”
Jiang Yiqiu indeed said nothing more.
Crawling into the covers and lying down, Chu Weiyue hugged her duvet, carefully inching, inching, inching in the dark, trying to get as far away from the dangerous person as possible.
After inching for a long time, she felt she was far away from the danger. With the large pillow dividing them, Chu Weiyue felt reassured.
She was secretly pleased. This time, I will definitely guard my territory and absolutely will not cross the line!
Though tired, Chu Weiyue felt honored. Everything she was doing was meaningful, for the sake of her and Qiuqiu’s pure friendship!
Lying in the warm covers, Chu Weiyue felt a peace she had never experienced before. Her consciousness was enveloped by drowsiness, and she drifted into a deep sleep.
She had a beautiful dream. She dreamed of picking a fresh, sweet, and perfectly formed apple in an orchard. She had never seen such a flawless apple. Before even tasting it, she could smell the alluring fragrance. She carried it home, washed and rubbed it repeatedly in the sink, spending a long time cleaning it. Impatiently, she held the apple and bit into it, chewing and savoring a huge meal. But the apple was too big. She ate until her stomach was round, having only consumed a small portion. Her abs were gone.
She ate it from top to bottom, chewed it from left to right, tasting the large apple completely and thoroughly in her dream.
Early the next morning, the familiar alarm sounded. Chu Weiyue was still smacking her lips, reminiscing about the apple from last night.
She hadn’t developed the good habit of getting up as soon as the alarm rang. She expertly hit the “snooze” button, pulled the “big apple” closer to her chest, and rested for a while to continue eating.
Just before falling asleep again, a thought flashed through her mind—
How did the apple make it into the bed?
Chu Weiyue sensed something was off.
It doesn’t feel like an apple.
Then what was it that I was touching and chewing on all night?
Chu Weiyue’s consciousness hadn’t fully returned. In a daze, she vaguely realized that her hand was resting on a soft object.
The texture was truly excellent. Chu Weiyue couldn’t resist.
She rubbed it, and then squeezed it.
Soft and bouncy, the touch was superb.
The next second, a cool, clear voice sounded in her ear: “Chu Weiyue.”
“…Ngh?”
“Does it feel good to touch?”
