Big Miss and White Moonlight, Stop Fighting! - Chapter 18
Chapter 18: A Secret Lover
Jiang Qingyue wrapped her other arm around the other woman’s back. “Do you mind if your bed has one more person in it tonight?”
“I couldn’t be more thrilled.”
The atmosphere became increasingly intimate. Wen Wuxin’s fingers climbed up to the round earring hanging from the other woman’s earlobe, gently caressing it.
But Jiang Qingyue interrupted her. She pulled away from the cold beauty in front of her.
“I need to check something.”
Wen Wuxin was stunned, then smiled faintly. “I wouldn’t dare to keep a lover hidden here.”
She was only talking about herself, completely ignoring the fact that Jiang Qingyue had openly found another lover at the club earlier.
Jiang Qingyue walked straight into the kitchen.
Her face was serious. Although the indoor lighting was very soft, it still couldn’t change the coldness in her eyes.
The stunningly beautiful woman with a look of deep resentment opened Wen Wuxin’s refrigerator.
Just like last time, it was still filled with various drinks. The only food item was a bag of mushrooms.
No secret lover, but a secret mushroom.
Jiang Qingyue held up the bag of mushrooms and sternly questioned Wen Wuxin, “Didn’t I tell you to eat properly?”
Wen Wuxin bit her lip and stood at the kitchen door, not daring to take another step.
At this moment, it felt as if Jiang Qingyue was the owner of this house. She didn’t know why she was so angry.
“If you don’t take care of your body, your body will betray you. It was a good thing someone was there this time, but what if next time no one is around and you faint by yourself?”
Wen Wuxin kept silent.
Jiang Qingyue put the mushrooms back in the refrigerator with a sullen face. “Send me your class schedule. On weekends and the days you don’t have class, I’ll have someone deliver cooked meals to your place, and then—”
She ground her back teeth together. “You’ll send me a video of you eating.”
Wen Wuxin looked at her hesitantly. “Are you… are you not angry anymore?”
Jiang Qingyue snorted. “How could I dare to be angry? I know you love fried mushrooms the most. That dish won’t be missing from the meals I send you in the future.”
Jiang Qingyue even wanted to ask an inappropriate question: Do you like me more or do you like fried mushrooms more?
But she was an adult now. Such a ridiculously childish question was ultimately left unsaid.
A smile finally appeared on Wen Wuxin’s face, and she extended another invitation.
“Do you want to take a bath together? It’ll be warmer that way.”
Jiang Qingyue didn’t know how taking a bath together would be warmer, but by the time she realized it, they were already in the bathroom together.
Pouring makeup remover onto a cotton pad, holding the middle with her middle and ring fingers, and the ends with her index finger and pinky, Wen Wuxin held up her right hand. “Qingyue, I want to remove your makeup.”
Jiang Qingyue naturally indulged her. She sat on the edge of the bathtub, tilted her head slightly, and closed her eyes.
The damp cotton pad was gently pressed against her right eye. Wen Wuxin leaned in closer and realized that Jiang Qingyue was wearing a bold black and gold eye makeup today.
The fine golden glitter was evenly sprinkled on her eyelids, adding a touch of coldness and glamor to Jiang Qingyue, making her intimidating.
And now, Wen Wuxin was removing her armor, or perhaps her disguise.
Wen Wuxin’s movements were gentle. She carefully wiped away Jiang Qingyue’s eyeshadow and eyeliner. Then, as if mesmerized, she gently touched and traced the other woman’s eyebrows and eyes with the back of her finger.
Even after a person turns eighteen, their bone structure can still change.
If she were still here, she would probably look just like the person in front of me.
Those gentle eyes would probably be even more radiant when looking at me.
The bathroom heater was on, but Jiang Qingyue felt the fingertips on her face growing cold.
Jiang Qingyue’s eyes were still closed, and her voice had a tenderness she wasn’t even aware of. “Are you cold?”
Wen Wuxin didn’t answer. She just looked at the other woman quietly, silently shedding tears that no one knew about.
So similar, too similar.
Ever since she painted Jiang Qingyue that day, Wen Wuxin had noticed that even though she could tell they were two different people at a glance, as soon as Jiang Qingyue closed her eyes, she looked infinitely like the person in Wen Wuxin’s memory.
Their voices were also identical. Jiang Qingyue’s gentle question at this moment made Wen Wuxin’s mind wander.
“Xin Xin?” Jiang Qingyue called out again.
Wen Wuxin finally came back to her senses. She fumbled as she turned around and started to remove her own makeup.
“You go wash first. I’ll join you after I take off my makeup.”
The heavy nasal tone was hard to ignore. Jiang Qingyue opened her eyes and saw that Wen Wuxin was at the sink, vigorously scrubbing her face with a cotton pad.
“You’re always so hard on yourself.”
Jiang Qingyue walked over, her heart aching a little. “Why are you using so much force? You’ve scrubbed your face red. When you were removing my makeup, your movements were so gentle…”
Jiang Qingyue took the cotton pad from Wen Wuxin’s hand. “Close your eyes.”
Wen Wuxin wanted to refuse but found that at some point, she had been completely surrounded by the other person and couldn’t escape.
She could only close her eyes. Her thick, long eyelashes, which had been wet with tears, were now clumped together, looking incredibly pitiful.
Jiang Qingyue’s gentle breath caressed her face. “Xin Xin, what shade of lipstick are you wearing? It’s beautiful.”
But Wen Wuxin couldn’t speak. If she opened her mouth, the bitter makeup remover would flow in.
Jiang Qingyue didn’t expect a reply. She was more like she was talking to herself.
“You have to eat properly from now on, okay?”
“You fainting today really scared me.”
“I’m so sorry for what happened recently, but…”
Jiang Qingyue couldn’t find an explanation, but the frustration and endless apology in her heart forced her to speak.
She was about to wipe Wen Wuxin’s cheek, but then Jiang Qingyue saw a tear slide from the corner of Wen Wuxin’s eye, soak into the cotton pad, and then disappear.
When a person loses one sense, the sensitivity of their other senses is amplified infinitely.
With her eyes closed, Wen Wuxin suddenly didn’t know who the person in front of her was.
Jiang Qingyue misunderstood the reason for Wen Wuxin’s tears. She knew it was her fault but couldn’t say more.
Wiping Wen Wuxin’s face dry with a clean face towel, Jiang Qingyue softened her voice. “Didn’t you say we should take a bath together?”
“Qingyue.” The other woman suddenly called out.
“I’m here.” Jiang Qingyue patted her head.
“Qingyue.”
Jiang Qingyue patiently hummed in response again.
“Qingyue.”
Wen Wuxin was like a robot with a programming error, only able to repeat the same phrase.
Jiang Qingyue didn’t dare to say a single harsh word. She could only ask softly, “What’s wrong?”
Wen Wuxin’s tears, which had stopped, started to fall again in large drops. She was sobbing, but her voice was so soft it was barely audible.
“Qingyue, I miss you so much.”
Jiang Qingyue didn’t know why her own eyes were welling up.
Seeing Wen Wuxin cry, she also wanted to cry with her.
But she didn’t know how to comfort the other woman. She could only gently hold Wen Wuxin’s chin and kiss her tenderly.
Jiang Qingyue had only intended for a brief kiss, but Wen Wuxin was like a traveler dying of thirst in the desert. She deepened the kiss, greedily wanting to get more from the other woman.
There was still some residual makeup remover on both of their lips. The deep kiss made them both taste the bitterness.
Is makeup remover really this bitter? Jiang Qingyue thought.
…
The next morning.
When Wen Wuxin woke up, the bed was already empty.
She walked barefoot into the living room and found two notes on the coffee table.
“I’ve taken all your health supplements. Breakfast will be delivered outside the door soon. Remember to get it.”
“Wen Wuxin, eat properly.”
Wen Wuxin picked up the note that said “eat properly.” Unlike Jiang Qingyue’s display of passion and laziness, her handwriting was surprisingly dignified and neat.
Wen Wuxin held the note, opened the door, and took the lunchbox inside. She then actually took a video of herself eating breakfast. She took a few bites and smiled shyly at the camera.
After finishing the video, Wen Wuxin was about to send it when a news notification popped up at the top of her phone.
The headline was quite explosive:
[Shocking! The reason for the love triangle between two women late at night!]
Wen Wuxin’s right eyelid twitched. She clicked on it and was met with a picture of what had happened at the club last night.
In the composition of the photo, Jiang Qingyue and the singer were on one side, while five or six people on the other side were all gathered around Wen Wuxin. Jiang Qingyue’s expression was cold, and she didn’t even look as anxious as the singer standing next to her.
The text below the image was full of content that deliberately disparaged Wen Wuxin, proclaiming that she, as a lover, had fallen out of favor and that Jiang Qingyue had found a new lover.
Wen Wuxin’s expression remained unchanged as she put down her phone and then threw the two notes into the trash can.
She looked at the blue sky outside the window and let out a soft snort.
“That’s all there is to it.”
Jiang Qingyue was not as formidable as she had imagined. Her so-called tactics were nothing more than giving a slap and then a piece of candy, over and over again.
She could tell that Jiang Qingyue had never been loved.
So Wen Wuxin would transfer her feelings for that person onto Jiang Qingyue. Even though these feelings didn’t belong to Jiang Qingyue, Jiang Qingyue didn’t realize anything was wrong at all.
Wen Wuxin’s feelings were real, but the person she cared about was not Jiang Qingyue.
Wen Wuxin and Jiang Qingyue were now on two ends of a scale. Giving Jiang Qingyue a sincerity that didn’t belong to her was the only leverage Wen Wuxin had to keep her.
A breeze blew through the window into the room, ruffling Wen Wuxin’s hair.
Taking a deep breath, her eyes became determined.
She had to play this role better than anyone else.
…
One year later.
“Xin Xin, it’s just a few days until graduation. Do you want to go on a graduation trip?”
Wen Wuxin had just gotten into the car when she heard Jiang Qingyue’s smiling question.
She shook her head. “I don’t want to go anywhere.”
Jiang Qingyue teased, “Oh really? What a shame. I was planning to take you on a trip.”
Wen Wuxin’s eyes lit up. She grabbed Jiang Qingyue’s arm. “You’re teasing me again, Qingyue.”
Jiang Qingyue told the driver in the front. “To her place.”
As soon as they arrived, Wen Wuxin couldn’t wait to let go of Jiang Qingyue’s arm. She took a suitcase out of the storage room. “When are we going, and for how long?”
Jiang Qingyue looked at her with a smile. “There’s no surprise if I tell you now.”
Wen Wuxin walked into the bedroom with light steps, her voice coming from inside. “Qingyue, come help me choose my clothes.”
As Jiang Qingyue walked into the bedroom, she saw several dresses on the bed.
She couldn’t help but laugh. “You don’t need to prepare so many.”
Wen Wuxin pouted. “Don’t mind me. Speaking of which, I heard some gossip about you at school today.”
Jiang Qingyue’s heart tightened. Although she and Wen Wuxin had not broken up in the past year, they had become much more low-key. The entertainment news only featured her and other women, and Wen Wuxin had never brought up the gossip in front of her.
But now, Wen Wuxin had brought it up herself. What did this mean?
Before Jiang Qingyue could figure it out, she heard the other woman ask.
“I heard that you have a biological older sister?”
