Big Miss and White Moonlight, Stop Fighting! - Chapter 19
Chapter 19: But She Died Long Ago
Wen Wuxin asked the question in a very natural manner. After asking, she even picked out a light blue long dress from the closet.
“Qingyue, do you like this one?”
Jiang Qingyue, however, didn’t say anything, just stared directly at Wen Wuxin.
Only then did Wen Wuxin seem to realize she had said something wrong. She quickly hung the dress back up, biting her lower lip.
“I’m sorry, President Jiang. I… it’s just that a few of my classmates were talking about this today. But I’ve been with you for so long and didn’t know about it at all. I, I’m a little…”
“I’m sorry, I won’t ask questions like this again.”
Jiang Qingyue sighed. “What are you scared of? I’m not angry.”
“That strapless long dress is beautiful. Take it,” Jiang Qingyue said, starting to fold the dresses on the bed. “I do have a twin sister.”
Jiang Qingyue’s back was to Wen Wuxin, so she didn’t see the stubborn look in the other woman’s eyes.
“Her name is Jiang Qingyue. Although our names have the same pronunciation, the characters are different. Twenty-two years ago, the Jiang family announced she was missing.”
Wen Wuxin was confused. “Missing?”
Jiang Qingyue hummed. She thought for a moment. “This purple short dress should look good in pictures. Take it too. Twenty-two years ago, the Jiang family’s main residence caught fire. After the fire was extinguished, my sister went missing.”
Wen Wuxin simply pulled Jiang Qingyue to sit on the bed with her. She seemed interested. “But that sounds a little unbelievable.”
Jiang Qingyue playfully tapped the other woman’s nose. “I should’ve known you love hearing about these high-society secrets. I would have told you everything. Although my mother claimed my sister was missing, everyone knows deep down that—”
“She’s dead.”
Jiang Qingyue’s hands didn’t stop moving. She started massaging Wen Wuxin’s arm again.
“That fire was too much for my mother, and since my sister and I were only one year old at the time, she couldn’t accept the fact that my sister had died. So she stubbornly claimed my sister was just missing.”
Wen Wuxin frowned. “Don’t you feel sad?”
Jiang Qingyue’s hands didn’t stop, but her tone was indifferent. “Although she’s my bl00d relative, I have no memories of her. You know, a one-year-old child can’t remember anything. She passed away before I could form memories, so there’s nothing to be sad about.”
Wen Wuxin’s body stiffened. She then asked softly.
“What are the two characters for your sister’s name?”
Jiang Qingyue thought for a moment. “The character for ‘charming’ and the character for ‘joy’.”
After saying that, Jiang Qingyue muttered, “No wonder people are superstitious. Who gives twins names with the same pronunciation? And now, only one of us survived. It’s really unlucky.”
“Jiang, Qing, Yue.” Wen Wuxin said each character one by one.
Jiang Qingyue shuddered. She said awkwardly, “Xin Xin, you calling me by my full name is even scarier than calling me President Jiang.”
Wen Wuxin laughed.
The beautiful woman finally smiled, and Jiang Qingyue also breathed a sigh of relief. She hugged the other woman clingily. “What else do you want to hear, Xin Xin? I’ll tell you anything.”
Wen Wuxin’s voice was emotionless. “Is it possible that your sister is really just missing, as your mother said, and not dead?”
“Absolutely not.” Jiang Qingyue’s tone was firm.
“She had an easy death,” after a few seconds, Jiang Qingyue couldn’t help but let out a cold snort. “There are too many messes in the Jiang family. I don’t want to deal with them.”
Wen Wuxin just caressed the back of the other woman’s neck. Jiang Qingyue’s skin was delicate and soft to the touch.
Jiang Qingyue never expected to become such a lustful person.
She left red marks on Wen Wuxin’s neck and shoulders, and didn’t forget to talk nonsense.
“If my sister were still here, I would definitely introduce you to her and have her call you her sister-in-law.”
Wen Wuxin let out a whimper. She shrugged and tried to move back.
Jiang Qingyue laughed charmingly and then pushed Wen Wuxin onto the bed. “Why are you so sensitive today? Since you brought up the topic, let me ask you: if my sister and I appeared in front of you at the same time, would you be able to tell who’s who?”
Jiang Qingyue thought this was a good question to flirt with. Her sister was already dead, so it was a good way to contribute to her sister’s love life.
Wen Wuxin held Jiang Qingyue’s neck with one hand. She used a little force, and she could feel the hot bl00d under the skin.
Wen Wuxin didn’t hide the passion in her eyes. She smiled gently. “Of course I can.”
I’m the person in this world who can tell the two of you apart the most clearly.
This intimate encounter was no different from any other.
Wen Wuxin was sound asleep. Jiang Qingyue pinched the other woman’s face. Wen Wuxin frowned and mumbled something, but she moved even closer, burrowing into Jiang Qingyue’s arms.
Jiang Qingyue carefully pushed the other woman away. After making sure she wasn’t awake, she tiptoed out of bed.
She went to the nightstand, opened the drawer, and as expected, saw a bottle of melatonin.
Opening the cap with the quietest movements, Jiang Qingyue peeked inside. The number of pills was about the same as the last time she checked.
It seemed that Wen Wuxin’s sleep quality had improved a lot during this time.
Sometimes, Jiang Qingyue didn’t know what to do with Wen Wuxin. The painter wasn’t a hypochondriac, but as soon as she wasn’t around to make sure the other woman was eating, Wen Wuxin would go and eat those colorful health supplements and then take melatonin to fall asleep.
It was as if Wen Wuxin only ate to maintain her vital signs, eating as little as possible.
Putting the melatonin back in its place, Jiang Qingyue quietly put on her clothes. Jiang Asheng had just sent her a message telling her to go back to the Jiang family house.
An hour later, in the study of the Jiang family’s main residence.
“Mom, is there a problem with the collaboration project with the Zhou family this time?”
Jiang Qingyue and Jiang Asheng’s conversations were always straightforward.
Jiang Asheng shook her head. Her tone was long and drawn out. “You’ve been managing the company very well in the past year. You’ve perfectly completed all the tasks I’ve given you.”
Jiang Qingyue frowned slightly. “You didn’t come to me just to say this, did you?”
Jiang Asheng smiled faintly, and the wrinkles at the corners of her eyes became more obvious. “Is it wrong for me to want to praise my daughter? Not only in the company, but also in your…” she considered for a few seconds. “…love life. You’ve made quite a name for yourself.”
In the past year, the news about Jiang Qingyue was not about her business acumen but rather her romantic scandals.
Jiang Qingyue smiled. “I’ll take that as a compliment.”
Jiang Asheng took a sip of hot tea. “But don’t let your guard down. Those people are still secretly stirring up trouble.”
Jiang Qingyue twirled her bracelet, and couldn’t help but retort.
“That’s mostly thanks to you. You chose your spouse so well back then, you just happened to choose an ingrate.”
After a few seconds of silence, Jiang Asheng spoke again. “That’s my fault. I’m already trying to make up for it and minimize the damage. However, if your sister comes back in the future, you can’t be so reckless in your love life. You have to…”
“Mom,” Jiang Qingyue interrupted. “She’s dead.”
Jiang Qingyue deliberately emphasized the word “dead.”
“She died in that fire twenty-two years ago.”
Jiang Qingyue’s words were met with only silence.
But Jiang Qingyue was determined to expose this fragile lie today. “Mom, after that fire, you claimed that my sister, Jiang Qingyue, was missing, but everyone knows deep down that—”
“She died, was buried in the fire, and there are no remains.”
“Maybe you want to appear fragile and broken in front of outsiders, but I don’t understand why you’re still so stubborn in front of me? It’s been over twenty years, haven’t you let it go yet?”
“Even recently…”
Jiang Qingyue didn’t say any more, but she had already connected the dots: the reason Wen Wuxin knew about this was because her mother had intentionally leaked the information to the public.
Jiang Asheng’s index finger tapped the table rhythmically.
Now was indeed not the best time to tell Jiang Qingyue the truth.
Jiang Qingyue’s patience had run out. She said faintly, “If there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving.”
Jiang Asheng looked at the ripples in her teacup. “Be careful recently. Hire more people to protect yourself.”
Jiang Qingyue didn’t answer. She turned and left.
She had been living in this state of anxiety for over twenty years. Jiang Asheng’s words at this point were meaningless to her.
…
When Jiang Qingyue arrived at the club again, a paparazzi had just taken a picture of her and another woman entering the club.
After entering the private room, Jiang Qingyue took out her phone and started editing a message with a serious expression.
The woman thought she was handling work matters, so she stood by quietly without disturbing her.
“Don’t skip meals after you wake up. I’ve had someone leave food outside your door. Remember to get it.”
“President Jiang…” Seeing that Jiang Qingyue had finally put down her phone, the woman showed a fawning smile.
Jiang Qingyue raised her chin, her eyes glancing at the sofa opposite her. “Sit.”
“You’ll stay at the club tonight and not leave. I’ll give you everything you want in the future.”
The woman was a little stunned. “Oh, okay.”
Jiang Qingyue said faintly, “I was a little interested in you at first, but after meeting you…” She sized up the woman and said the line she had prepared. “…I’m not that interested anymore. But I’m always generous to my lovers. As long as you don’t say anything outside, you’ll be well compensated.”
The woman nodded repeatedly.
Jiang Qingyue stood up and looked down at the woman. “Was I with you tonight?”
The woman immediately understood. “Yes. I was with you at the Star River Club all night.”
Not bad. The lovers my secretary has found for me recently are better and better.
Jiang Qingyue left, satisfied.
Wen Wuxin was surprised when she opened the door and found that it was Jiang Qingyue.
Jiang Qingyue leaned against the door frame, smiling charmingly. “Have I gotten prettier after a few hours?”
Wen Wuxin pulled her into the house. The moment the door closed, Wen Wuxin let go.
“You…”
Wen Wuxin was hesitant to speak.
Jiang Qingyue didn’t understand what the other woman meant. She peeked into the dining room. “Did you eat properly, Xin Xin?”
Although she no longer required Wen Wuxin to send her a video of every meal, she still checked up on her from time to time.
On the dining table, there was only a little food eaten from each lunchbox. Jiang Qingyue didn’t even need to look to know that the dish that had been eaten the most was fried mushrooms.
Wen Wuxin said something shocking. She grabbed the other woman’s sleeve and said softly.
“Are you taking a break to come here,”
“To have a secret rendezvous, Qingyue?”
