Big Miss and White Moonlight, Stop Fighting! - Chapter 21
Chapter 21: Shielding Her
A week later.
After that night of “secret rendezvous,” Wen Wuxin and Jiang Qingyue didn’t see each other again until Friday of that week, when Jiang Qingyue contacted her again.
“Tomorrow morning at 7 AM, I’ll pick you up downstairs.”
Wen Wuxin replied “okay” in an instant, then started packing her luggage.
She didn’t bring many things, only the clothes Jiang Qingyue had specifically mentioned she should bring, along with her basic toiletries and makeup. She didn’t bring anything else.
When she was with Jiang Qingyue, she really wasn’t in the mood for sketching outdoors.
But Jiang Qingyue seemed to be doing the opposite of what she wanted. When they met up on Saturday, Jiang Qingyue looked at Wen Wuxin’s single suitcase with some confusion.
“I thought you would bring your painting supplies.”
Wen Wuxin smiled. “After painting for so long, it’s good to take a break once in a while. I want to spend more time with you, Qingyue.”
Jiang Qingyue didn’t say anything, but she appreciated it.
The two sat in the back of the luxury car. Jiang Qingyue took the other woman’s hand and lightly scratched Wen Wuxin’s palm.
The tickle made Wen Wuxin’s fingers curl up unconsciously, but she didn’t pull away.
Jiang Qingyue teased, “Your palm isn’t ticklish at all, Xin Xin.”
But where is ticklish then?
They both knew the answer.
Sighing, Jiang Qingyue feigned melancholy. “I originally chose a place that was very suitable for painting, but our great painter Xin Xin doesn’t appreciate it.”
The great painter said softly, “Since I finally get to travel with you, I’d rather spend more time with you.”
After some more sweet talk, the driver pulled the car up to the airport.
Jiang Qingyue pulled Wen Wuxin out of the car. “There’s a city to the south with a beautiful sea of flowers. It’s in full bloom right now, so we’ll be able to see the beautiful scenery.”
A sea of flowers? That’s perfect for sketching.
But Wen Wuxin just smiled and said, “Okay.”
They walked along the exclusive VIP channel. Jiang Qingyue’s tone was natural. “What kind of flowers do you like, Xin Xin? I’ll have someone check if they have them in the sea of flowers.”
Wen Wuxin answered without thinking. “Red roses.”
Without waiting for Jiang Qingyue to ask why, Wen Wuxin explained on her own. “I think you and red roses are very similar, Qingyue.”
Jiang Qingyue didn’t fall for it. She stopped walking and raised her right eyebrow. “Little liar.”
Wen Wuxin wasn’t annoyed. She just looked at Jiang Qingyue quietly.
Clearing her throat, Jiang Qingyue also realized her slip-up. She took the other woman’s hand and continued walking, muttering softly, “Your favorite flower is obviously white camellias, and yet you say you like red roses.”
Jiang Qingyue had observed that everything from Wen Wuxin’s perfume to her body lotion and shower gel, and even her own studio, was filled with white camellia elements.
Wen Wuxin’s body stiffened for a moment, but she quickly regained her composure. Jiang Qingyue, feeling a little guilty, didn’t notice the other woman’s abnormality at all.
“The camellia season is over now.”
Wen Wuxin said this out of the blue, and a rare silence fell between them.
It wasn’t until they got off the plane and stepped onto the soil of another city that the atmosphere between them returned to normal.
A staff member loaded their luggage into the trunk of the car. Jiang Qingyue, however, walked straight to the driver’s side door.
Wen Wuxin was a little confused. “Is there no driver?”
Jiang Qingyue opened the car door. “You’re not happy with Driver Jiang driving?”
Wen Wuxin wouldn’t dare to be unhappy. She also walked to the front and sat in the passenger seat.
Jiang Qingyue started the car and buckled her seatbelt. Only then did she look at Wen Wuxin in the passenger seat.
“I didn’t hire a driver for this trip. We’ll be driving ourselves on a road trip.”
Wen Wuxin bit her lower lip, a little worried. “But the sea of flowers is probably up in the mountains. The mountain roads might not be easy to drive on.”
She had a fear of riding in a car on mountain roads.
Jiang Qingyue saw her worry. “Don’t worry. Can’t you trust my driving skills? I just don’t want anyone else to bother us.”
Wen Wuxin could only force a smile.
Half an hour later.
Jiang Qingyue glanced at Wen Wuxin, who was still looking out the window, and suggested, “How about some music?”
Wen Wuxin first shook her head, then, as if she had just woken up from a dream, she stammered, “Oh, okay. What do you want to listen to, Qingyue?”
Jiang Qingyue was a little helpless. She had already tried her best to drive as smoothly as possible. “Xin Xin, are you feeling unwell? You’ve been acting strange ever since you got in the car.”
Wen Wuxin unconsciously clenched her right fist. She hadn’t expected the other woman to notice.
She thought she had hidden it well.
The nightmare that had long since left her was starting to become clear again. Wen Wuxin’s head was pounding, but she still said in a gentle voice, “No, I’m just a little tired from the few hours on the plane.”
Rubbing the steering wheel with both hands, Jiang Qingyue hummed. “Then no music. If you’re tired, just sleep. The place I booked is right next to the sea of flowers. The villa is in the mountains, so it’ll take another hour to get there.”
Wen Wuxin immediately agreed with her words, but her body remained tense. She didn’t want to be like this—
But fear and nervousness were now taking over all her emotions.
Even though Jiang Qingyue was the driver, Wen Wuxin, the passenger, seemed to be even more vigilant, constantly looking left and right.
Jiang Qingyue tried to comfort her. “My driving skills are really good. You can be 100% at ease.”
Her comfort didn’t seem to work. Wen Wuxin was still visibly nervous.
Ever since they started driving up the mountain, Jiang Qingyue had slowed down the car. She also knew that safety was the top priority. She just hoped the car wouldn’t shake too much and make the beauty in the passenger seat even more nervous.
In the second half of the drive, Wen Wuxin, who had been highly tense for a long time, started to look tired.
Seeing this, Jiang Qingyue said gently, “Close your eyes and rest for a bit. We’ll be there soon.”
The car’s air conditioning was not cold, and the warm breeze made Wen Wuxin a little sleepy. She gently hummed, leaned back in her seat, and slowly closed her eyes.
An accident happened at this moment. They were on a winding mountain road. There was a sharp turn ahead. Jiang Qingyue slowed down and honked the horn.
But a black minivan still sped towards them and slammed into them.
Jiang Qingyue reacted quickly and turned the steering wheel. The car made a sharp turn and hit the inner side of the mountain slope.
The minivan crashed through the guardrail and rolled down the slope, while Jiang Qingyue’s car hit the mountain.
Luckily, both of them were fine. They were both wearing their seatbelts. Although it had hurt Jiang Qingyue’s chest, at least her life was saved.
“Xin Xin, are you…”
Jiang Qingyue breathed a sigh of relief. She was about to ask Wen Wuxin if she was okay when she heard a click.
Wen Wuxin unbuckled her seatbelt, turned to her, and threw herself over Jiang Qingyue, shielding her with her body.
Wen Wuxin didn’t look into her eyes. The only thing Jiang Qingyue saw was the other woman’s pale cheeks and terrified eyes.
They were pressed tightly together. Before Jiang Qingyue could react, she heard a loud bang.
Bang!
In an instant, the entire car shook violently.
