Chapter 23: The Tingling Sensation Brought Her Back to Her Senses.
A warm sensation came from her fingertips. Everything told Wen Wuxin that what was happening was real.
Wen Wuxin didn’t know why she suddenly felt like crying. She tried her best to hold back her tears and said in a spoiled tone, “Then I want you to carry me, Sister. My legs are weak and I don’t want to walk.”
Jiang Qingyue indulged her. “Okay, even if we’re both old ladies in our seventies or eighties, if you want me to carry you, I’ll definitely be able to.”
Wen Wuxin lay on the other woman’s back. Jiang Qingyue then stood up, holding Wen Wuxin’s thighs firmly, and then she weighed her.
“You’ve lost weight again.” Jiang Qingyue felt a little heartache. “What have you been doing secretly lately? You’ve worked so hard that there’s no meat on you.”
Wen Wuxin didn’t say anything. She just wrapped her arms around the other woman’s swan-like neck and buried her head in her shoulder.
She rested her chin on the other woman’s collarbone. As Jiang Qingyue walked, her long black hair swayed, accidentally brushing against Wen Wuxin’s face.
A tickling sensation came from her face, but Wen Wuxin still didn’t move. She just said softly, “What about you, Sister? What have you been doing lately?”
Jiang Qingyue was stunned, then she laughed and shook her head. “It seems you’re really confused from sleep. We went home from school together yesterday, have you forgotten?”
Wen Wuxin’s mind went blank. She could only hum in a low voice and say four dry words: “I remember.”
The two of them arrived at a seven-seater car. The door was opened by someone inside, revealing a face that was incredibly familiar to Wen Wuxin.
The middle-aged woman covered her mouth and chuckled. “Xin Xin, really, you’re such a big girl, and you still want your Sister Qingyue to carry you. Have you no shame?”
Another middle-aged woman also teased, “I think my Qingyue just loves taking care of her little sister. Don’t you agree, Jiang Qingyue?”
Jiang Qingyue had already squatted down and put Wen Wuxin down. She took Wen Wuxin’s hand and said softly, “Mom, Auntie, please stop. If you keep going, someone is going to blush all afternoon.”
The two finally got in the car. Wen Wuxin and Jiang Qingyue sat in the back row, and looking at the adults in the first two rows who were chatting and laughing, Wen Wuxin felt a sense of unreality.
The sun outside the window was bright, shining through the car window and casting a soft golden glow on everyone in the car.
Wen Wuxin reached out her hand and placed it on the car window. She was a little confused—
Why wasn’t the sunlight shining on her? She looked a little gray compared to everyone else in the car.
A hand grabbed hers, and then Wen Wuxin’s hands were completely enveloped by the other person’s.
“Our little painter’s hands are the most precious. The sun is so strong, what if it damages them?” Jiang Qingyue said in a spoiled voice, but her tone was incredibly serious.
Without waiting for Wen Wuxin to speak, she took out a camellia-scented hand cream from her pocket. “Let me put hand cream on you, Xin Xin.”
“I’ve painted many portraits of you.” Wen Wuxin looked at the other woman’s movements and suddenly spoke.
Jiang Qingyue rubbed the milky white hand cream onto Wen Wuxin’s hands. Her tone was gentle. “You should paint other things too. You’re going to take the college entrance exam in a year or two, and you can’t just paint portraits.”
Jiang Qingyue’s mother, who was sitting in the front, laughed. “My Qingyue is quite an expert in the field of painting now.”
Jiang Qingyue didn’t argue. “To use an inappropriate metaphor, it’s probably because I love the house, so I love the crow on its roof.”
“I think it’s a very appropriate metaphor.” Jiang’s mother said bluntly.
“But I’ve already gone to college and graduated.”
When Wen Wuxin said this, everyone except Jiang’s father, who was driving, turned their heads to look at her.
Jiang Qingyue shook her head helplessly. “It’s okay. She just got confused from her nap and is talking nonsense.”
Wen Wuxin was about to argue, but when she met Jiang Qingyue’s gentle eyes that melted like snow, the memories that were about to come out of her mind quickly disappeared.
“Maybe I really did get confused from sleep.” Wen Wuxin thought for a moment and finally came to this conclusion.
Jiang Qingyue squeezed Wen Wuxin’s hand. “You’re not silly at all, Xin Xin.”
Wen Wuxin grabbed her hand back. “What do you want to do after you graduate, Sister?”
She had never asked Jiang Qingyue about her future plans, just took it for granted that they would always be together.
Jiang Qingyue, who was in her last year of high school, was stunned. “I’ll probably choose a major with a good job outlook, finish my four years of college, and then just work a regular job.”
“A regular job…?” Wen Wuxin savored the words and then blurted out, “Then will you get married, Sister? What kind of person would you like?”
Jiang Qingyue was shocked. “Xin Xin, why would you ask something like that? I’m only eighteen. Marriage is a long way away for me, and besides…”
Seeing that Jiang Qingyue was looking at her as if she was about to say something but held back, Wen Wuxin looked away. She felt her throat tighten.
“Whether you’re by yourself, or you choose to spend the rest of your life with someone else, I hope you’re happy.”
I hope more than anyone else that you live a happy life.
Jiang Qingyue, however, misunderstood. Her voice was a little colder than online. “Are you trying to warn me, Xin Xin?”
Jiang Qingyue caressed Wen Wuxin’s forearm. Her soft fingertips brushed against her skin, causing a tingling sensation.
Wen Wuxin was still immersed in an unknown sadness and didn’t react. “What?”
Jiang Qingyue unconsciously raised her voice. “Xin Xin, you’re only sixteen. The most important thing is to finish your studies. You are absolutely not allowed to be in a relationship, okay?”
Wen Wuxin was speechless for a moment. She didn’t know how the other woman could have understood her that way.
Seeing that Wen Wuxin wasn’t saying anything, Jiang Qingyue’s voice became anxious. She grabbed Wen Wuxin’s slender wrist, and her grip became a lot tighter.
“Be good. Don’t do anything bad.”
A scene of herself and a woman in bed together inexplicably flashed through her mind. Wen Wuxin wanted to pull her hand back. “What if… I’ve already done something bad?”
Jiang Qingyue lowered her eyes, and her long, thick eyelashes hid the gloom in them.
“Xin Xin, what’s wrong with you?” But her tone was still gentle and no different from usual.
Wen Wuxin bit her lip hard. After a long time, she said softly, “If I’ve already done something wrong, will you forgive me? Will you still be willing to… continue to be my sister?”
