Chapter 27: “Maybe it’s not the first time we’ve met?”
Wen Wuxin blinked, not seeming surprised at all. “Is it that apartment next to your Star River Club? Okay. I’ve graduated anyway, so I don’t need to run to school anymore.”
Jiang Qingyue rubbed her palm again but didn’t say anything.
Wen Wuxin frowned. “Then is it that villa in the suburbs?… That works too. Driving there is pretty convenient.”
Jiang Qingyue still didn’t say anything.
Wen Wuxin wanted to pull her hand back. Jiang Qingyue immediately grabbed her wrist and, as if to vent her frustration, rubbed her palm fiercely.
Wen Wuxin had no choice but to say in a soft, spoiled voice, “Where is it, Qingyue? Just tell me. I’m a patient right now, so you have to be nice to me.”
Jiang Qingyue kissed her palm. “The Jiang family’s main residence.”
Wen Wuxin’s body stiffened.
This was unexpected. It seemed that her self-sacrificing rescue this time was quite worthwhile.
Without revealing her true thoughts, Wen Wuxin pulled her hand back with a stubborn force, and at the same time, she turned her head away from Jiang Qingyue.
The touch on her cheek disappeared, and Jiang Qingyue felt a sense of loss. She said patiently, “What’s wrong? You don’t want to go? Don’t worry, it’s just me and my mom at home, and my mom won’t make things difficult for you.”
“Is it out of guilt?” Wen Wuxin said softly.
Jiang Qingyue panicked. “No, it’s not. Xin Xin, listen to me…”
Wen Wuxin turned to look at her again. The beauty’s eyes were already a little teary. “I didn’t save you for any other reason. I don’t want your money, and I don’t want your promises. It’s just because you’re you, and it’s just because I…”
A single tear rolled down from the corner of her eye at that moment, falling onto the soft white pillow and becoming a faint water stain.
Jiang Qingyue’s heart ached. She gently used a tissue to wipe away the tear marks on Wen Wuxin’s face. “No, it’s not. It was my fault this time for getting you involved. If you live at the Jiang family’s main residence, I’ll be able to protect you better.”
“Then what about our relationship?!”
Wen Wuxin’s question was almost out of control. It was the first time she had asked such an improper question in front of Jiang Qingyue.
Jiang Qingyue looked away. She wasn’t in a position to talk about love right now.
But the love that Wen Wuxin gave her was so captivating that she only wanted to sink into it forever.
“I can…” Jiang Qingyue’s throat tightened as she said the words that made her heart feel constricted. “Give you a lot of money, but you can’t ask for anything else, like a title or love. Xin Xin, I’ll…”
I’ll give you the best I can within my ability.
“Stop talking.” Wen Wuxin interrupted Jiang Qingyue’s words lightly.
Jiang Qingyue looked panicked. She really didn’t know how to make it up to Wen Wuxin.
But then Wen Wuxin struggled to sit up. Jiang Qingyue quickly helped her, and the other woman hugged her.
“…Qingyue, I really can’t stand to see you sad. When you’re sad, I hurt more than you do.”
Wen Wuxin buried her face in Jiang Qingyue’s shoulder and neck. Her voice was muffled. “I’ll move into the main residence, and I won’t ask such an improper question again. I’ll agree to whatever you say. Just don’t look at me with that expression anymore.”
Wen Wuxin agreed, but Jiang Qingyue still felt that the invisible shackles on her hadn’t disappeared.
Wen Wuxin kissed the mole on Jiang Qingyue’s neck. “When it’s just the two of us, can you secretly love me? Even just a little. Qingyue, can you?”
“I won’t use this love for anything. It won’t be a handle for you, and I won’t tell anyone. I just want you to love me.”
The requests came one after another, and by the end, they sounded more like pleas.
The answer Wen Wuxin received was Jiang Qingyue’s tearful silence.
Jiang Qingyue’s expression was calm, but her eyes were filled with too many emotions, and in the end, they could only turn into tears that overflowed one by one.
Even though Jiang Qingyue hadn’t made a sound, Wen Wuxin compromised again. Her tone was incredibly gentle. “It’s my fault. I shouldn’t be so greedy. Don’t cry, Qingyue. I don’t want you to cry for me.”
Jiang Qingyue remained silent. She was sadly aware that she couldn’t make any promises.
By the time Wen Wuxin was discharged the next day, Jiang Qingyue was still in low spirits, while Wen Wuxin, the patient, had a face that was overly flushed—
Of course, it was due to nervousness.
“Qingyue,” Wen Wuxin, who had just gotten off the plane and was in the car, poked the soft flesh on Jiang Qingyue’s arm. “What kind of person is your mom? Since it’s our first time meeting, should I bring a gift? How about we go to the mall first?”
Jiang Qingyue comforted her. “You don’t have to worry. My mom knows you saved me, and she’ll be too busy thanking you to mind if you don’t bring a gift. My family isn’t that strict. Don’t worry.”
Wen Wuxin breathed a sigh of relief, then remembered something and frowned. “But I remember…”
“What?”
Wen Wuxin was a little conflicted. “I asked you about your twin sister before. You said your mom still seems to care about it a lot. What if… she brings it up at home? What should I do?”
Jiang Qingyue looked indifferent. “You don’t have to worry about that. Just go along with what she says. My sister is completely dead anyway. No matter how much my mom talks about her, there’s no way she can come back to life.”
Wen Wuxin was uncharacteristically silent.
Jiang Qingyue thought the other woman was worried and comforted her again. “It’s really fine. My mom isn’t a monster. She won’t eat you just because you say a few wrong things.”
Wen Wuxin smiled meaningfully. “Don’t all these high-society families eat people alive?”
Hearing Wen Wuxin’s words, Jiang Qingyue’s mood brightened. She returned to her usual radiant and lively self and pinched Wen Wuxin’s face.
“This isn’t some TV show with a lot of dramatic plot twists. But to make it easier to change your dressing—”
Jiang Qingyue drew out her words. “You’ll have to bear with me and sleep in the same room.”
Wen Wuxin complained a little. “Qingyue, don’t be like that. You’re the host. It would be rude for me to do that.”
But when Wen Wuxin actually met Jiang Asheng, she was surprised that the first thing the other woman said was, “Hello, Wuxin. Just think of this as your home. If you need anything, tell the housekeeper. Qingyue told me your injuries aren’t fully healed yet. Why don’t you two just share a room? After all, you got hurt because of Qingyue, so feel free to order her around.”
Jiang Asheng’s open-mindedness was truly beyond Wen Wuxin’s expectations. Many questions arose in her mind, but she quickly suppressed them and could only smile and nod politely.
Jiang Qingyue, on the other hand, seemed to be in a better mood. “Mom, it’s the first time you’ve met Xin Xin, and you’re already siding with her.”
“Maybe it’s not the first time we’ve met?” Jiang Asheng said with a faint smile.
