Big Miss and White Moonlight, Stop Fighting! - Chapter 34
Chapter 34: I’ve Missed You
Holding out her index finger and pressing it against the other woman’s cherry lips, Jiang Qingyue pretended to be profound. “Woman, don’t stop me from spending money on you.”
Wen Wuxin grabbed Jiang Qingyue’s wrist, then moved her hand away and also pretended to be cold. “Woman, you’re being too domineering. It’s making me feel cold.”
The two of them then burst into laughter. They fell onto the bed together, hugging each other tightly and listening to each other’s laughter.
The joke may not have been funny, but they both laughed until they had tears in their eyes.
Wen Wuxin wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes and said slowly, “Qingyue, I know you mean well, but giving me shares is just… I can’t accept it. Besides, you’ve already helped me so much on my path as a painter.”
“Wuu.”
Jiang Qingyue made a whimpering sound like a wounded cub. She was truly feeling wronged.
Wen Wuxin was startled by her appearance. She rushed to comfort her. “Qingyue, you know I’m not trying to hurt you. It’s just that this really isn’t right.”
Wen Wuxin’s goal was already mostly achieved, and she didn’t want Jiang Qingyue to sacrifice anything more for her.
“What’s not right?” She had laughed until she cried earlier, but now Jiang Qingyue’s eyes were really teary from feeling wronged. “It was one thing when you didn’t let me spend money on you before, but now you’re my wife, and I’m your wife. Isn’t it natural for a wife to want to spend money on her wife?”
Wen Wuxin didn’t know which part to start refuting.
Sighing, Wen Wuxin stroked Jiang Qingyue’s face. The dampness she felt on her fingertips evoked an indescribable emotion in her heart.
“First of all, we’re not officially married yet, so there’s no talk of being wives. And I’m already making a lot of money from painting, so I don’t need you to give me these things anymore.”
Jiang Qingyue felt even more wronged. She sniffled. “You make money and you’re willing to spend it on me. Haven’t you given me a lot of bags and jewelry over the years? You want to give me the best, so I want to give you the best too. This is a natural thing.”
“Xin Xin,” Jiang Qingyue’s tone was very pitiful, but her actions were so forceful that they were impossible to refuse. She held the back of the other woman’s neck and leaned in. “You can’t not let me want to be good to you.”
Wen Wuxin turned her head away. She lowered her eyes, and the light brown eyes held a complex emotion that Jiang Qingyue couldn’t decipher.
“It’s not worth it.”
Jiang Qingyue used her other hand to lift her chin and kissed her forcefully.
By the end of the kiss, the dampness on her cheeks made Jiang Qingyue open her eyes.
But those weren’t her tears; they were Wen Wuxin’s.
Jiang Qingyue panicked. “I’m sorry, I…”
Wen Wuxin hadn’t realized she was crying yet. When she spoke, she found that her throat was tight. “I’m really not worth it, and I can’t accept it.”
“Xin Xin,” Jiang Qingyue stood up, then knelt by the side of the bed. She looked up at Wen Wuxin pitifully. “In love, it’s not about equal exchange, and it’s certainly not about whether it’s worth it. I love you, and you love me, so I want to give you the best I can. Please, you must accept it.”
But I don’t love you.
Wen Wuxin couldn’t say those words. She couldn’t tell Jiang Qingyue the truth yet, because she hadn’t seen Jiang Qingyue.
And as the initial joy faded, Wen Wuxin also realized that even if she did see Jiang Qingyue tomorrow, the aftermath was still uncertain.
What identity would Jiang Qingyue return to the Jiang family with, and how long would she stay? Also, would the Jiang family use Jiang Qingyue again? Would she herself become a burden to Jiang Qingyue?
One question after another arose in Wen Wuxin’s mind, and she calmed down.
Right now, she absolutely could not expose herself in front of Jiang Qingyue.
So she stopped arguing and said softly, “Thank you, Qingyue. I can accept your gift, but these shares will always belong to you. If you ever need them, I will transfer them back to you.”
“A wife-loving person will have good fortune from all directions!” Jiang Qingyue said with conviction. “The more I spend on my wife, the richer I’ll get.”
“I’m not your wife… never mind,” Wen Wuxin gave up on correcting the other woman’s address. She let out a soft snort, as if to tease. “I’ll also work hard to earn money for my crybaby wife.”
If sweet words made Jiang Qingyue happy, she didn’t mind saying a little more.
The crybaby leaned in. “My wife needs to wipe my tears before I can stop crying.”
The two of them were affectionate for a while longer, and Jiang Qingyue only left for the company reluctantly after receiving a phone call.
The next morning.
When Wen Wuxin opened her eyes, the bed was already empty.
She had actually woken up very early. Since she was going to see an important person today, she hadn’t slept well all night.
So when Jiang Qingyue tiptoed to get up, Wen Wuxin just pretended to still be asleep.
Jiang Qingyue had come back a little late last night. She told Wen Wuxin that there was an urgent project at the company that needed to be handled, so she would be very busy for the next two days and would probably come back very late today as well.
This was probably Jiang Asheng’s doing, and Wen Wuxin couldn’t have been happier.
Taking several deep breaths, Wen Wuxin’s heart was still beating fast. She wanted to see Jiang Qingyue in the next second, but she also…
…felt a little intimidated.
She didn’t know how Jiang Qingyue felt about her now. Would their feelings have faded after not seeing each other for a few years? Would she be just a passing acquaintance to Jiang Qingyue, a not-so-important neighbor’s younger sister?
And the things she had done over the years must seem absurd and ridiculous to Jiang Qingyue. The other person might hate her so much that they wouldn’t want to see her again.
Clapping her hands against her cheeks, Wen Wuxin knew she couldn’t continue to overthink. No matter what, she would be satisfied as long as she could see Jiang Qingyue just once.
She went through all the clothes in her walk-in closet and finally chose a light purple long dress that she wasn’t too happy with, hoping it wouldn’t look too bad.
She seemed to have forgotten that she was actually astonishingly beautiful. In front of Jiang Qingyue, she always felt like she wasn’t good enough.
When everything was ready, Wen Wuxin realized that her fingers were very cold.
After all this time, she was still so nervous she couldn’t sit still.
“Miss Wen.” Butler Li’s voice came from outside the door.
Taking a deep breath, Wen Wuxin rubbed her hands together. After putting on a smile, she walked up and opened the door.
Without waiting for Butler Li to speak, Wen Wuxin smiled. “Let’s go.”
The walk was neither long nor short.
But when Wen Wuxin thought back on it later, she had no memory of it.
Wen Wuxin, who was so stiff that she was almost walking with both feet at the same time, finally arrived at a room.
Butler Li stood in front of the door. Her job was only to bring Wen Wuxin here. She didn’t know who the guest inside was.
She assumed it was probably a client who wanted to buy Wen Wuxin’s paintings.
But before Butler Li’s hand could even touch the doorknob, Wen Wuxin had already gripped it.
It was clear that she was holding it very tightly; her knuckles were white.
Surely the Jiang family’s doors aren’t that hard to open…?
Butler Li muttered to herself, but she wouldn’t stop Wen Wuxin from doing anything. Since Wen Wuxin wanted to open the door herself, she could leave now.
“Miss Wen, I’ll go supervise the gardeners in the garden now. If you need anything, just contact me.”
Wen Wuxin didn’t answer. She turned the knob and pushed the door open.
The woman standing in the room, who had a cold expression, instantly became as warm as a spring breeze when she saw Wen Wuxin.
Wen Wuxin stood frozen in place. She even forgot to close the door.
The thousands of words she wanted to say all turned into silence at this moment.
All the words were stuck in her throat. Wen Wuxin didn’t even dare to take another step forward. She was afraid that if she did, the person in front of her would vanish into thin air.
“Xin Xin.”
A gentle female voice came, and Wen Wuxin’s lips trembled as she gave a non-response.
Jiang Qingyue’s eyes were a little red. She walked towards Wen Wuxin, subtly hiding her left hand behind her back.
It wasn’t until the person from her dreams was finally standing in front of her that Wen Wuxin seemed to wake up from a long dream. She was stunned for a long time, and finally said softly:
“Sister Qingyue.”
Jiang Qingyue touched her head. “I’m here.”
Wen Wuxin felt like she should smile. She pulled at the corners of her mouth. “I want to eat the fried mushrooms you make, Sister. The ones I’ve made myself all these years are never as good as yours.”
Jiang Qingyue suppressed the emotions churning in her heart and said softly, “Of course.”
“Sister Qingyue.”
“Mhm.”
“Sister.”
“I’m here.”
Wen Wuxin called Jiang Qingyue twice more. Although it was a meaningless conversation, Jiang Qingyue was extremely patient.
Wen Wuxin’s throat was terribly dry. Even now, she didn’t dare to look directly into the other woman’s eyes.
“…Sister Qingyue, it’s been a long time.”
After a long time of being together, Wen Wuxin finally said the opening line that she should have said long ago.
“It’s been a long time,” Jiang Qingyue also responded softly. “Xin Xin, you’ve had a tough time these past few years. You’ve worked hard.”
The grievances in her heart gushed out like a flood. Wen Wuxin clenched her fists and bit her lip hard, not letting herself break down emotionally.
She knew she no longer had the right to be spoiled by Jiang Qingyue.
“Wuu… Sister, I’m sorry…” She finally managed to speak, but the words she wanted to say came out in pieces. Wen Wuxin cried until her vision was blurry. She instinctively wanted to grab Jiang Qingyue’s sleeve and act spoiled like she used to, but she could only hold herself back.
When had Jiang Qingyue ever seen Wen Wuxin so wronged? Her eyes flashed with heartache, and she immediately hugged the other woman. Just like countless times before, she embraced Wen Wuxin.
“I’m the one who should be sorry. Xin Xin, I should have met you sooner. Don’t worry, your aunt and uncle are also doing very well these past few years.”
“As long as you’re all alive,” the familiar and warm embrace finally made Wen Wuxin sob out loud. “I don’t want anything. I just want all of you to be alive. Don’t leave me alone.”
Jiang Qingyue held back a sob and gently patted Wen Wuxin’s back with her scarred left hand. “Cry. It’s okay to cry.”
The more gentle and tolerant Jiang Qingyue was, the more guilty and self-reproaching Wen Wuxin felt. This emotion was almost consuming her, making her feel that she didn’t deserve this kind of warmth anymore.
She incoherently said things like “I’m sorry” and “I’m not worthy,” and her tears soaked the fabric on Jiang Qingyue’s chest.
Jiang Qingyue gently accepted Wen Wuxin’s breakdown. Compared to her gentle actions, her eyes were cold and piercing.
Staring at the figure hidden in the shadows outside the door, Jiang Qingyue said, word by word:
“Don’t be afraid. Sister is back.”
