Big Miss and White Moonlight, Stop Fighting! - Chapter 40
Chapter 40: Why Can’t I?
Wen Wuxin grabbed Jiang Qingyue’s wrist, trying to remove her hand, but Jiang Qingyue grabbed Wen Wuxin’s arm in return. She didn’t hide her desire and longing.
“If you have to marry someone from the Jiang family, Jiang Qingyue can, so why can’t I?”
Wen Wuxin even forgot to struggle. Her pupils constricted. “Are you crazy?!”
Jiang Qingyue’s red lips curled into a smile. “Xin Xin, I’m not crazy. I know exactly what I want.”
She wanted her and Wen Wuxin to belong only to each other forever. She wanted Jiang Qingyue to never appear in Wen Wuxin’s life again.
Letting out a small laugh, Jiang Qingyue pulled Wen Wuxin into her arms. Her hands measured the other woman’s slender waist, and Jiang Qingyue sighed.
“You’ve gotten thinner.”
Even though it was the same action as before, Wen Wuxin felt that even through the fabric, her skin would tremble uncontrollably wherever the other woman’s fingers touched.
Unlike the simple, warm hugs of the past, this hug was tainted with a hint of inappropriate desire.
Wen Wuxin used a lot of strength, but she still couldn’t break free from this hug that was so gentle it was almost suffocating.
She could even hear the other person’s heartbeat.
“I already told you I’ve fallen for Jiang Qingyue. Don’t you understand?! This has nothing to do with her being a member of the Jiang family!” Wen Wuxin’s voice became unknowingly tearful, with a hint of a sob.
Jiang Qingyue’s body stiffened, but she still didn’t let go of the hug. She had longed for this moment for too long.
“How can you like her…” Jiang Qingyue murmured, burying her head in the other woman’s neck and shoulder.
Wen Wuxin, however, suddenly calmed down.
“I’m sorry,” Wen Wuxin didn’t know why she was apologizing. Her eyes were unfocused. “But you can’t control things like feelings. If you’ve fallen for someone, you’ve fallen for them.”
She couldn’t turn back now.
Jiang Qingyue was still pretending to be strong, but the strength of her hug weakened considerably. “Xin Xin, this isn’t love. It’s just a temporary illusion. The reason you’ve developed feelings for Jiang Qingyue is only because she has the exact same face as me.”
In the end, Jiang Qingyue is just an insignificant substitute. I, Jiang Qingyue, am the one that Wen Wuxin truly loves.
Wen Wuxin finally pushed her away. She looked at Jiang Qingyue, her eyes filled with a sadness that Jiang Qingyue couldn’t understand.
“No, even though you’re twins, in my eyes, you’re completely different. I have never,” she took a breath. “Never once mistaken her for you.”
I’m lying.
I’m a liar.
I deserve to die.
The dark thoughts were about to consume Wen Wuxin, but the more her emotions churned inside, the more composed she appeared on the outside.
Jiang Qingyue’s brain froze. She seemed completely unable to comprehend that sentence.
She incoherently raised her gloved left hand. “I, I already contacted a doctor. She’ll do her best to remove the scar on my hand. These things can be removed.”
Wen Wuxin quickly averted her gaze and said softly, “I’m sorry. Because of me, you have such an ugly scar.”
And a past that is too painful to remember.
Jiang Qingyue shook her head repeatedly, her brows furrowed. “I’m not trying to blame you. Even if I had to do it a million times, I would have made the same choice back then. What I’m trying to say is…”
Jiang Qingyue was almost pleading. “It’s okay even with the scar. I can do my best to get rid of it. Even if our past has regrets, I can make up for it. Xin Xin, believe me.”
Looking at the tears falling from the corners of the other woman’s eyes, Wen Wuxin instinctively wanted to wipe them away, but she immediately realized that her hands were still covered in paint and she couldn’t touch the other person.
“Let’s look ahead, Miss Jiang.”
In the end, Wen Wuxin only managed to squeeze out these few dry words.
Jiang Qingyue staggered back as if she had lost all her strength. She lowered her head, and her hair fell in front of her face, hiding her expression.
Clenching her hands into fists, Wen Wuxin dug her fingers into her palms to stay calm. “Miss Jiang, I’m going to go wash my hands now.”
Jiang Qingyue stayed in Wen Wuxin’s art studio for a long time. She took heavy steps to the window and looked at the oil painting being shone upon by the sunlight. Her reddish eyes were filled with nothing but cold malice.
“Jiang Qingyue,” Jiang Qingyue’s voice was bone-chilling. “You really deserve to die.”
Wen Wuxin, who had arrived at the sink, watched the warm water wet her hands. She squeezed out a pump of specialized hand soap and carefully washed her hands.
A few drops of warm liquid fell onto her soap-covered hands, but Wen Wuxin paid no mind to it, as if she wasn’t the one crying.
I’m the one who has the least right to cry.
…
7 p.m.
The four of them were once again seated around the dining table. Jiang Qingyue was in high spirits. “Xin Xin, you’ve painted me so beautifully this time!”
Jiang Asheng, who was to the side, said helplessly, “Wuxin has painted so many portraits of you over the years. You say that every time.”
Jiang Qingyue pouted and hummed. “It’s different, Mom. Look.”
She took out her phone and opened her photo album, finding the picture she had just taken upstairs—
In the photo of the oil painting, the female protagonist was wearing a red dress, smiling charmingly, exuding the aura of a great beauty.
For some reason, Jiang Asheng froze for a moment. She looked at Wen Wuxin, whose expression was calm, then straightened up again.
“Alright, let’s eat.”
The dinner was very silent. Wen Wuxin only took a few bites before putting down her chopsticks.
“Eat more. That’s not enough,” Jiang Qingyue said with a frown.
Wen Wuxin shook her head. “I’m full. I need to go upstairs and pack my luggage.”
“Luggage?” Jiang Qingyue caught the key word. “Where are you going?”
A sense of unease quickly spread in her heart. Jiang Qingyue became very worried. Is Wen Wuxin going to run off with her supposed sister?!
Jiang Qingyue, who was next to them, also froze, and then casually continued to eat her food.
Wen Wuxin said softly, “I want to go sketching for a few days. I’ve been feeling a bit uninspired recently, so I want to go out and see the scenery.”
Jiang Qingyue said “Oh.” “Then where are you planning to go?”
Wen Wuxin answered smoothly, “Xiangyun Ancient Town in the next city.”
Jiang Qingyue thought about it. “Okay, I’ll go with you.”
Wen Wuxin was about to refuse, but on second thought, she didn’t say anything.
It was Jiang Asheng who spoke up instead. “I’m afraid that’s not possible, Qingyue. For the next week, you need to familiarize your sister with the various business sectors of the corporation and take her to meet the board of directors.”
Jiang Qingyue was a little hesitant. Wen Wuxin said understandingly, “I can go sketching by myself. You can just focus on your work, Qingyue.”
Only then did Jiang Qingyue reluctantly hum in agreement.
And Jiang Qingyue never spoke.
…
After dinner.
Jiang Qingyue was in the art studio doting on Wen Wuxin, while Jiang Qingyue went to Jiang Asheng’s study.
Because she had strained her eyes, Jiang Asheng rubbed the corners of her eyes and said without looking up, “What is it, Qingyue?”
Jiang Qingyue lowered her eyes. “It’s me, Mother. I’m not Jiang Qingyue.”
Jiang Asheng looked up. “I know it’s you. I was calling you.”
After saying that, Jiang Asheng also realized that the two children’s names were pronounced the same. If she only said their names, it was indeed easy to confuse them.
Thinking of this, Jiang Asheng changed the subject. “For the welcome back party in a few days, are you planning on changing your last name back to Jiang or…”
“I’m not changing it,” Jiang Qingyue’s answer was very firm.
Jiang Asheng wasn’t annoyed. “That’s fine. In the future, when both of you are present, I’ll call you ‘Xiao Jiang’ and call her ‘Qingyue.’ That will make it easier for you two to distinguish yourselves.”
Facing Jiang Asheng’s obvious favoritism, Jiang Qingyue didn’t mind at all. It was just a name. She didn’t care.
“Mother,” Jiang Qingyue asked. “Will I have a welcome gift at the welcome back party?”
Jiang Asheng raised an eyebrow. “Of course. But the value of the gift is up to you to decide.”
Jiang Qingyue was about to meet the senior management of the corporation. Leaving a good impression on these people was an important step for her to integrate into the corporation.
If those people approved, Jiang Asheng could give Jiang Qingyue more.
However, Jiang Asheng also believed that her eldest daughter would not disappoint her.
Jiang Qingyue hummed in agreement. “Understood. But Mother, aren’t you really afraid that I’ll steal Jiang Qingyue’s thunder?”
Jiang Asheng said flatly, “The capable person should be in charge.”
Letting out a sneer in her heart, Jiang Qingyue’s expression remained unchanged. “Jiang Qingyue has been pampered for so many years. If she were to fall from the clouds, she would probably be crushed.”
Jiang Asheng sighed. “You two sisters shouldn’t be thinking about fighting each other all the time. Neither you nor she is at fault. I am the one who is.”
Jiang Qingyue’s expression became serious. “I can not compete with her for the position of heir, as long as you have them break off their engagement. Mother, this is a very good deal.”
Jiang Asheng laughed out loud. “You little liar. I think you want to have them break off their engagement first, then become the heir, and then marry Wuxin, right?”
Jiang Qingyue, whose thoughts had been exposed, wasn’t flustered. She said with an unchanged expression, “Mother, I’m serious.”
Jiang Asheng waved her hand. “Alright, there’s no room for discussion on this matter. You should go. There’s a tough battle tomorrow.”
…
The next day.
Wen Wuxin, who had arrived at the ancient town by car, quickly settled her luggage, then found a quiet street, sat down, and started to paint.
She needed some quiet time now, or else she might not be able to continue her act.
Unlike Wen Wuxin, the Jiang Corporation building was filled with tension.
Two women with identical looks walked into the huge conference room. Jiang Qingyue emotionlessly pointed to her right. “Everyone, this is the long-lost daughter of the Jiang family—”
“My biological sister, Jiang Qingyue.”
Jiang Qingyue gave a small smile, but it was a smile filled with indifference and distance.
All the people sitting on the board of directors were very shrewd. Everyone looked at each other and gave a sparse round of applause.
Jiang Qingyue continued in a flat tone, “The Jiang Corporation’s business scope is very wide, with many sectors. The fastest-growing sectors in recent years have been fintech, biomedicine, and artificial intelligence. The gaming sector has also been doing well recently.”
Each of the board members held different percentages of shares. Although Jiang Asheng had a lot of say in the Jiang Corporation, for any major decisions, she had to get the discussion and approval of these people.
With Jiang Qingyue’s sudden return, and with Jiang Asheng, the chairman, not having given her any position in the corporation, everyone was unsure of the chairman’s intentions.
Jiang Qingyue and Jiang Qingyue, whose side should they take?
