Blue Dream Trail (Soccer) - Episode 2:
It’s been the first three months since Ren joined the Ravens U-12 team.
He barely missed the game.
“Ren, you should be more assertive!”
“I don’t have time to think about our soccer!”
“Why are you there? Come forward.”
The players around me were all “chosen kids” who were regional representatives or came from strong clubs.
They were skilled, loud, and made no secret of their desire to win, as if they deserved to even be there.
Ren’s movements were always just a little slow. He purposely stood back, surveying the whole scene. However, no one noticed his “gaze.”
But that was his way of “preparation.”
Manager Matsushima had limited Ren’s playing time, intentionally.
To see what he could do in a short amount of time, and to see how people reacted to him.
After a meeting on a rainy day.
Fine rain was tapping against the window of the meeting room. The humid air mixed with the tension among the boys.
Matsushima asked Ren.
“Ren, what do you think you are lacking the most right now?”
Ren lowered his gaze for a moment, then quickly looked up.
“It’s about trust. Even my teammates don’t know what I want to do.”
“So, what should we do?”
“…I’ll make it possible for you to see what I’m thinking.”
After a short pause, Ren continued.
“I communicate with my words, my movements, my plays. I communicate with everything.”
Matsushima nodded slightly.
Subaru: “Your time will come soon. So don’t be hasty. People are watching.”
