Bone-Attached Disaster - Chapter 43:
Chapter 43: Deep Kiss
Lu Jie closed his eyes and enclosed Fu Jia’an’s lips, not with a fleeting brush, but with a deep kiss that exposed all his surging desires.
Time seemed to stop. In Lu Jie’s life, nothing could compare to the satisfaction of this moment. He had his nemesis, his long-awaited fate, the devil who controlled his heartbeat, pinned beneath him. He was stealing the oxygen from the other’s mouth, tasting that annoying lychee flavor.
The touch of the lips was soft, like a sweet jelly. He licked at them, then couldn’t resist nibbling a few times, yet he was reluctant to press too hard.
The deeper the kiss, the tighter Fu Jia’an was pressed down. He was on the verge of suffocation, yet he had no desire to struggle. He had always remembered the kiss twelve years ago in the clinic, a mix of youthful mischief and recklessness. It was a dream Fu Jia’an revisited repeatedly, a candy he savored when life felt dull. This time, however, it was so different. There was no probing, no hesitation. Lu Jie’s intense and powerful heartbeat hammered like a drum. The vibration pierced Fu Jia’an’s chest, virtually draining all the strength from his body.
Fu Jia’an was stunned for a few seconds before closing his eyes. This kiss was too precious and came as too great a surprise. He didn’t even mind that Lu Jie might have considered it a “humanitarian reward.” He had always been this way: whatever Lu Jie gave him, he would grasp it.
Encouraged by the response, Lu Jie pried open the other’s jaw, touching his soft tongue. He finally realized he was pressing Fu Jia’an too hard, so he spared a fraction of his concentration, propping himself up slightly to create a tiny gap between them, at least enough for them both to breathe.
Fu Jia’an was dissatisfied. He quickly pulled out his hands to hug Lu Jie’s shoulders, closing the gap again, their chests pressed tightly together once more, as if drowning in this kiss was acceptable.
Lu Jie had no choice but to indulge him, but soon he realized something was wrong. He used immense willpower to forcefully pull himself off Fu Jia’an. The feeling was agonizing, like peeling off a warm blanket in the dead of winter—it was quick, but immensely torturous.
He got off the sofa and sat on the rug, bending his knees, trying desperately to catch his breath for a while.
After a long moment, he finally dared to look at Fu Jia’an. Fu Jia’an was still lying in the same position, barely moving, but upon closer inspection, he was completely flushed, red from his ears to his neck. For a moment, Lu Jie even wondered if he had a fever.
Lu Jie had been regretting his inability to hold back earlier, but now that he had recovered a bit, he felt inclined to make a snide remark. “What did you say when you were flirting with me before? How come you collapse the moment I take the initiative?”
Fu Jia’an was truly dazed for another few minutes before grabbing the back of the sofa to sit up. The hand he reached out was long and beautiful, the knuckles a shade of rosy crimson. It was only then that Lu Jie noticed that the shifting during their struggle had pulled up a section of the other’s clothes, exposing a lean waist under the crumpled silk pajamas… He felt he couldn’t look any closer and turned his face away. “How about you just go to bed soon.”
“In this state, you want me to sleep? I ask you, can you sleep?” The person behind him was getting agitated.
“This state” didn’t need to be explicitly mentioned. Lu Jie had felt it through the fabric of their clothes earlier. He was afraid that if the situation escalated, he wouldn’t be able to stop it, so he had to quickly get up.
Lu Jie sighed, suppressing the heat, and resolutely confessed, “Fine, I’ll tell you. I like you.”
He still felt he needed to look at Fu Jia’an when saying the words, so he looked up again. “I only realized it today.”
Fu Jia’an looked stunned, his mouth slightly open, unable to speak. He had rarely truly lost his composure since childhood, but now he knew he was completely finished.
He had always thought that someone as wonderful as Lu Jie would be incredibly difficult to pursue, or even worse, Lu Jie might not be capable of falling in love with a man. He had come to Lu Jie, having prepared for the worst possible outcome. He had been cautiously inching forward, testing the waters, measuring his steps, terrified of going too far and scaring him away. He was prepared for constant rejection, having reserved all the patience and thick skin he had for Lu Jie.
Yet, before he could use any of the thousands of strategies he had prepared, Lu Jie confessed to him.
With one impulsive kiss, Lu Jie shattered Fu Jia’an’s plan and broke the painful closed loop where Fu Jia’an always sought to exchange ninety-nine tribulations for one bit of happiness.
Fu Jia’an’s blankness wasn’t a lack of thought, but cognitive overload. A terrifying idea had occurred to him since earlier: Was he naturally deserving of love, without needing to exchange so much suffering for a little sweetness? Was it even possible that he didn’t have to wait for twelve years?
“Say something,” now it was Lu Jie’s turn to worry. “You haven’t fallen for someone else, have you?”
“Lu Jie, are you stupid?” Fu Jia’an looked down at the bulge between his legs. “You’re still asking when I’m like this?”
“You are truly…” Lu Jie tried to formulate a sentence, finally saying with difficulty, “Weren’t you going to pursue me? Why haven’t you done anything?”
“I’ve been too busy; I didn’t have time,” Fu Jia’an quickly explained. “I have something to give you. I was going to give it to you after the three minutes were up.”
Lu Jie asked, “What?”
Fu Jia’an pulled a blue velvet box from his pajamas and opened it.
Inside was a fully-diamond-encrusted gold ring.
Lu Jie didn’t even look closely, flipping the box shut immediately. “Why are you giving me this?”
Fu Jia’an clearly hadn’t expected to upset him with a gift. He stammered, “You don’t like it?”
“How could I like this,” Lu Jie clenched the closed blue velvet box in his hand, a surge of inexplicable anger rising in his heart. “You treat me like… Never mind.”
“Then tell me what you like. I’ll give you anything.”
“Anything?”
Fu Jia’an nodded, saying sincerely, “I’m very rich.” The gesture implied he was ready to show Lu Jie his account balance the next second.
In the end, Lu Jie accepted the box. “But I’m telling you in advance, I won’t wear a ring. I’m always in the lab, and it’s not convenient to wear one.”
“Mhm,” Fu Jia’an was happy just that he accepted it.
“So, are we together now?”
Fu Jia’an pondered. “Lu Jie, don’t you want to know why I never looked for you for twelve years?”
Lu Jie reached out and took Fu Jia’an’s hand. “I do, but you can tell me when you’re ready.”
“I want to tell you, I just don’t know how,” Fu Jia’an said. “Let’s talk about it after my surgery on Sunday, okay?”
Lu Jie understood what he meant. Fu Jia’an wanted to resolve the last mystery between them before officially getting together. By saying this, Fu Jia’an also knew Lu Jie didn’t like being kept in the dark. Lu Jie could abandon his logic for him, and Fu Jia’an could reveal the difficult secret to resolve Lu Jie’s lingering doubt.
Although they had to wait two more days to officially be together, they were already on the same page. It was really just a formality. So Lu Jie agreed, kissing the back of Fu Jia’an’s hand. “I’ll listen to you.”
After talking for so long, their physical desires had finally subsided. Lu Jie didn’t want to be a gentleman, but Fu Jia’an finally had a few hours to get some proper rest. Nothing could happen between them that night; they had to endure it. Besides… if he really indulged, where would they find the time?
After taking Fu Jia’an to his room, Lu Jie went downstairs and took a cold shower. Before he even dried his hair, he couldn’t resist opening the blue velvet box and meticulously examining the ring.
Of course, he didn’t dislike what Fu Jia’an had given him, but wasn’t this something you’d give to please a girl?
Don’t think that just because I accepted the ring, it decides who’s top and who’s bottom. I am absolutely not going to be the bottom. Worst case, we’ll fight it out.
After looking at it for a while, he took the ring out of the box and put it on his left middle finger. It fit perfectly.
It can’t hurt to wear it for one night, right?
After drying his hair and getting ready for bed, Lu Jie felt a little thirsty. He planned to get a bottle of water from the fridge. Just as he opened the bedroom door, the warm yellow light from the room illuminated the corner outside the door. Lu Jie was startled. Fu Jia’an was sitting right there by the door.
“Why are you here?” Lu Jie quickly squatted down. “Didn’t I tell you to go to sleep early?”
Fu Jia’an looked up and grabbed the hem of Lu Jie’s shirt. “I can’t sleep.”
There were bloodshot veins in his eyes. He was obviously exhausted, but his current state was like a child lost in an amusement park, afraid that if he closed his eyes, he would miss the family coming to find him.
Lu Jie truly regretted it. He shouldn’t have caused such a significant emotional upheaval for Fu Jia’an tonight. Let alone Fu Jia’an, he himself wasn’t sleepy now.
All along, the Fu Jia’an he knew had absolute intelligence, constructing a self-protective shell. Sometimes it was cautious, silent observation; other times it was half-sincere, half-feigned probing. He had long accepted himself as an anomaly in the world, developing a smooth and impenetrable exterior in the process of growing from a boy into a man.
But on this night, he resolutely tore off that outer layer, offering a bloody, sincere heart. No one had ever seen that heart, so no one knew that it was actually pure and soft, and had never been contaminated by anything.
Through the figure huddled in a ball, Lu Jie finally saw a childish, affectionate Fu Jia’an. It was only then that he truly felt this was a younger man, two years his junior. Someone clutching his clothes and loving him fiercely.
Lu Jie brought Fu Jia’an into his own bedroom, helped him lie down first, and then got into the covers himself. The air conditioning was low, the bedroom lights were dimmed to the lowest setting, and the two lay on their sides, facing each other.
Fu Jia’an kept looking at Lu Jie, not daring to blink, as if afraid that if he missed a glance, Lu Jie would disappear.
Lu Jie smiled and said, “Is it wrong for me to tell you to hurry up and sleep now? I understand that feeling. The more you force yourself to sleep, the more awake you become.”
“Then talk to me. I like hearing your voice,” Fu Jia’an reached for Lu Jie’s hand under the covers, touching the ring on his middle finger.
He finally felt a sense of security and closed his eyes.
“I remember back in college, during exam week, I’d be solving practice problems until 3 AM. The moment I closed my eyes, my mind would be full of letters and formulas. But you had to sleep. You had to, because the first exam was at 8 AM the next day. Is that how you feel right now?”
Fu Jia’an, eyes closed, was already starting to feel sleepy. “Lu Jie, you talk too much…”
This person really had no loyalty. Just moments ago, he said he liked his voice, and now he was complaining that he talked too much. Lu Jie chuckled and leaned over.
Fu Jia’an felt a kiss on his nose bridge, and just before falling asleep, he heard someone say, “Sleep. Don’t worry, I won’t leave.”
