Boss, Please Go Easy On Me (GL) - Chapter 16
The sixty-ninth floor of the Berry Building was indeed an excellent spot for sightseeing. Looking out, the entire city view was captured by the eye. The lights of tens of thousands of homes turned on, like scattered lamps on the ocean, twinkling in the distance, seemingly silent. Far away, one could faintly see the Minglan River flowing slowly under a blue light, quietly crossing most of the city and heading into the distance. From near to far, the shops opposite were brightly lit. The summer night marked the beginning of leisure time for busy people. Vehicles rushed along the streets, appearing too small to discern. Standing at this height, one could not feel the city’s clamor. The entire city played out like a silent film, quiet and beautiful.
Yan Xiaomi, however, was in no mood to appreciate this long-anticipated beautiful view. She was looking at An Yao, who was turned sideways, looking at her aunt and Professor Cheng, who were standing on the other side. The sadness in An Yao’s gaze was evident.
“I didn’t expect it to be a bit chilly here at the opening.” Professor Yan looked at Professor Cheng, smiling as she rubbed her arms, seemingly chilled by the cool breeze from the height.
Professor Cheng glanced at the time. “It’s getting late. Shall we head back?”
“That works.”
Professor Yan walked over to say goodbye, reaching out and pulling An Yao’s hand, “It’s cool here. You should go back early too.”
“Okay.” An Yao smiled and withdrew her hand. Professor Yan paused for a moment, then smiled and looked at Yan Xiaomi, “Don’t play too late either. Go back and rest early.”
“Okay, I know.” Yan Xiaomi smiled.
Professor Yan looked at An Yao again, seeming a little puzzled, but didn’t say anything, then turned and left.
An Yao only withdrew her gaze after Professor Yan and Professor Cheng disappeared around the corner. She stared outside again, spacing out. Yan Xiaomi wasn’t sure if she was looking at her own reflection in the glass or genuinely looking at the outside.
“CEO An,” Yan Xiaomi asked softly, “Are we going back now?”
“Let’s stay a little longer.”
An Yao rubbed her arms. The night wind really was a bit cool, but she didn’t want to go back now. There was nothing to look forward to in an empty house alone. Rather than going back to overthink things by herself, she’d rather stand here and let the wind blow a bit longer, just to clear her head.
“Okay, alright.”
Yan Xiaomi was a little helpless. An Yao clearly knew that the cool wind was not good for her, but she refused to leave. It seemed like she was in a bad mood.
As for the reason, Yan Xiaomi, even if blind, could tell it was because of her aunt. But one thing she couldn’t figure out was why her aunt? Wasn’t her aunt very good to her, even better than to herself? Why was she unhappy? If it wasn’t because of her aunt, it couldn’t be because of herself. That left only… Professor Cheng?
But CEO An and Professor Cheng were clearly not close, and they couldn’t have had any falling out. The only connection was her aunt. Yes, it was her aunt.
So what? CEO An was unhappy because her aunt and Professor Cheng were close, but why? Yan Xiaomi became more confused the more she thought about it. She felt her intelligence was sometimes online and sometimes invisible, and it was driving her crazy.
“Why exactly?” Yan Xiaomi frowned, unable to figure it out, and unknowingly muttered it out loud.
“What why?”
An Yao looked at her conflicted gaze, which held a question. She had vaguely felt that Yan Xiaomi was about to discover something when she heard her asking those questions about Professor Yan earlier. Had she figured it out, or was she afraid to confirm it?
“Can’t figure out why I’m so well-behaved in front of Professor Yan?” An Yao stared at some unknown point in the distance but paid attention to her answer.
“Yes, CEO An, I feel that your concern for my aunt is like…” Yan Xiaomi couldn’t describe the feeling, “It’s like having a crush on someone. It’s a bit cautious, and a bit inexplicably anxious, especially when you see her with others. But, how could CEO An have a crush on my aunt?” Yan Xiaomi scratched her head with an awkward laugh, “I really read too many novels; my imagination is too big.”
“What if it’s true?” An Yao turned and looked at Yan Xiaomi, her brown eyes locking onto her. Yan Xiaomi’s scratching motion froze for five seconds before she slowly ran her hand through her hair, saying with a grin, “How is that possible? How can a woman like a woman? It’s not like…” Yan Xiaomi suddenly stopped, slowly turned her head to look at An Yao, and asked with some disbelief, “A lesbian?”
“Yes, I am a lesbian.”
An Yao said it naturally, without any sense of guilt or uneasiness, just like that. Yes, I am a lesbian.
Yan Xiaomi felt her mind go blank for a moment. Had she misheard? An Yao admitted she was a lesbian. Although Yan Xiaomi felt that being gay wasn’t something to be ashamed of, who would so openly admit, “I am a lesbian”? So naturally and frankly, without any hint of guilt. Anyway, besides An Yao, she hadn’t seen or even heard of anyone else like that. To not be shocked, she really couldn’t do it.
“A lesbian?” Yan Xiaomi nodded distractedly, repeating softly and woodenly, “A lesbian, a lesbian…”
As if something had just occurred to her, she suddenly asked in astonishment, “So, CEO An, are you really secretly in love with my aunt?”
“Who hasn’t had a crush on someone in their twenty-plus years?” An Yao looked at her surprised expression and added, “I am a lesbian. Is it strange to have a crush on a woman?”
“No, not strange, not strange.” Yan Xiaomi knew that a lesbian would naturally have a crush on the same s3x. What was so strange about that? At least it wasn’t a crush on her.
“Now that you know this, whether you find it disgusting or acceptable, I hope…” An Yao’s expression suddenly became serious, “Don’t let your aunt know about this.”
Yan Xiaomi felt like An Yao was surrounded by cold air at this moment, with waves of coolness seeping through. She of course knew this couldn’t be revealed. If her aunt found out, An Yao would surely kick her out, and she might not even get her salary for this month, and the money for the phone would have to be paid back. Of course, all these were just hypothetical scenarios.
“CEO An, I don’t find being a lesbian disgusting, and I won’t tell my aunt about this. You trust me enough to tell me your secret, so of course I have to help you keep it, right?” Yan Xiaomi suddenly raised one hand, “I, Yan Xiaomi, swear to Heaven, I will absolutely not tell my aunt that you like her. If I tell her, may I die of menopause.”
“Wh-what?” An Yao didn’t know whether to laugh or cry at her serious oath, “Who told you that you would die from menopause?”
“I don’t know if I’ll die, but I just want to show that I won’t tell anyone about this. CEO An, you can trust me.” Yan Xiaomi patted her chest very seriously, “I am your person.”
Yan Xiaomi’s pride in being loyal to her own people swelled up. Seeing An Yao smile and nod, saying, “I believe you,” made her feel even more proud.
“Let’s go,” An Yao turned and said, “Let’s go back.”
