Boss, Please Go Easy On Me (GL) - Chapter 31
When Yan Xiaomi went to get her hair cut at noon, the hairdresser couldn’t help but laugh when he saw her hair. “Girl, how much does the person who cut your hair hate you? How could they make it look like this?”
The hairdresser was probably a very amusing person. “And don’t even say, some hairdressers just can’t stand other people having better hairstyles than them. They deliberately cut people’s hair into some human-ghost mess and then give some half-hearted apology. If they meet someone with a good temper like you, fine. But if it were me with my hot temper, I’d definitely trash their place.”
Yan Xiaomi felt very awkward. She wanted to stand up for the previous hairdresser and say that it was her own request and not the hairdresser’s fault, but she was too embarrassed to shoot herself in the foot again at this moment. Since the hairdresser didn’t know, she just pretended not to hear anything, smiled, and said nothing.
An Yao, bored while sitting on the sofa nearby, picked up her phone and started taking pictures of her. She wasn’t satisfied with a few distant shots, so she moved closer.
Yan Xiaomi noticed her movement and immediately froze. She didn’t dare to move her head, only darting her eyes left and right. “President An, what are you doing?”
“Taking a few classic photos of you,” An Yao smiled. “To look back and reminisce about later.”
“Ah?” Yan Xiaomi’s mouth twitched. This didn’t sound like a beautiful memory at all. She knew from the mirror that this hairstyle didn’t look good right now.
“Girl,” the hairdresser called out to her. “Your boss actually came with you to get your hair cut? That’s rare. You have such a good relationship.”
Yan Xiaomi heard the envy in the hairdresser’s tone and felt quite happy, unable to hide it on her face. Looking in the mirror at An Yao, who was back on the sofa playing with her phone, her eyes were full of smiles. “Yes, I think it’s great too.”
An Yao looked up into the mirror, right into Yan Xiaomi’s smiling eyes. Seeing her immediately look away, An Yao curved a smile at the corner of her mouth.
With a change of hairstyle, Yan Xiaomi felt much more refreshed. She looked at her new hairstyle in the mirror, tidied it up, and finally felt satisfied.
“President An,” Yan Xiaomi called An Yao. “What do you think of this hairstyle?”
An Yao walked up to her, looked for a moment, reached out and rubbed her hair, seriously feeling it. She concluded, “It’s a little prickly. It might feel more comfortable to touch after a while.”
Her freshly cut hair was casually messed up by An Yao. Yan Xiaomi looked in the mirror and surprisingly thought the messy look was also quite good. An Yao had already walked out. She quickly followed, really wanting to loop her arm through An Yao’s, but she felt too shy when she got close. She just obediently walked beside her and asked, “President An, do you like me having long hair?”
An Yao stopped and looked at her for a while, reaching out to measure beside her face and shoulder. “I want to see what you look like with long hair, but I probably still prefer your short hair.” An Yao smiled. “Short hair is easier to touch.”
Yan Xiaomi’s face immediately flushed. She felt a little embarrassed but couldn’t help but want to laugh. She lowered her head and followed An Yao into the car, still smiling.
Every time Yan Xiaomi smiled, An Yao thought she was having another nervous fit, looking particularly foolish. But every time she saw her laugh for a long time without stopping, looking so silly, An Yao wanted to laugh too, to the point where An Yao always felt she was being infected and becoming eccentric herself.
“Aunt?” As soon as they got out of the elevator upstairs, they ran into Professor Yan. Yan Xiaomi immediately let go of An Yao’s hand, having the illusion of being caught in the act. But she quickly reacted, walked up to Professor Yan, and asked with a smile, “Aunt, why are you here?”
“It’s all because of you,” Professor Yan smiled and poked Yan Xiaomi’s face. “Your parents wanted to come and see you and couldn’t reach you by phone. I didn’t dare tell them I hadn’t been able to contact you for a month. An An said before that she would find you, but after so long, neither of you contacted me. If your parents hadn’t come back recently, my poor memory wouldn’t have even remembered this.”
“My parents are coming to see me?” Yan Xiaomi was a little surprised. She looked at Professor Yan and then at An Yao, whose hand was still in the same position as when Yan Xiaomi let go. Yan Xiaomi froze for a moment.
The two looked at each other for a while. An Yao looked at Professor Yan. “Hello, Teacher.” Her tone and expression were different from before, still gentle but somewhat cool, detached, and respectful. “I was busy with work and kept forgetting to contact you. I apologize for making you worry.”
This matter was not An Yao’s fault at all. It was because Yan Xiaomi was too timid to contact An Yao and had thrown away her phone card, leading to everyone being unable to contact her for so long. Hearing An Yao’s apology, Yan Xiaomi opened her mouth to say something, but seeing An Yao’s cold gaze, she ended up saying nothing.
“It’s nothing,” Professor Yan patted An Yao’s arm and said with a smile, “It’s good to see Xiaomi is okay. Oh, right.”
Professor Yan looked back at Yan Xiaomi, pinching her face. “Why is your phone still off? Are you isolating yourself from the world?”
“Oh, oh,” Yan Xiaomi thought for a moment and quickly made up an excuse. “I accidentally lost my phone card when I took it out to look at it. Later, I got a new one. Since the old phone numbers were all saved on the phone card, I lost contact with many people after losing that card.”
The lie she made up felt incredibly logical even to her. She admired her own quick-wittedness.
“Is that so,” Professor Yan nodded and took out her phone. “Then save your new number for me.”
“Ah?” Yan Xiaomi scratched her head. “This…”
“She just bought the number and hasn’t memorized it yet,” An Yao took over. “She forgot to bring her phone out today. I asked her to save it for me, but she hasn’t done it yet.”
“Alright then,” Professor Yan patted Yan Xiaomi’s hand. “Then send me the number tomorrow. An An has my number. Also, call your parents. They said they miss you.”
After Professor Yan left, Yan Xiaomi breathed a sigh of relief, but seeing An Yao’s cold gaze, she panicked a little again. Her action of letting go of An Yao’s hand earlier seemed to have hurt An Yao.
“President An,” Yan Xiaomi called her.
An Yao didn’t respond. She walked past her directly towards the office. It seemed she was genuinely angry. Yan Xiaomi didn’t back down this time. She took a few steps forward, grabbed An Yao’s hand, and apologized with her head down. “President An, I’m sorry. I was wrong.”
An Yao stopped, looked at her, and only after a long moment did she lift her chin and ask, “What did you do wrong?”
“I… I shouldn’t have let go of your hand,” Yan Xiaomi said with some embarrassment, gripping An Yao’s hand tighter. “But, but if Aunt saw us…”
“What if Teacher saw us?” An Yao raised an eyebrow and lifted her chin.
“Doesn’t President An like Aunt?” Yan Xiaomi whispered. “I was afraid you would mind Aunt seeing us holding hands…”
“You were thinking for my sake?” An Yao took a deep breath to suppress the urge to slap Yan Xiaomi’s face. This person was so clumsy it made her too lazy to even get angry.
“I know Aunt has always been a very important person in President An’s heart. I don’t want to make you choose between Aunt and me. If President An regrets it, you can take back what you said last night anytime.”
“What did I say?” An Yao frowned and pinched her chin, a bit harder this time.
“It was that sentence,” Yan Xiaomi didn’t dare to look into An Yao’s eyes and whispered, “It was that sentence: I think I’m a little fond of you.”
An Yao suddenly let go of Yan Xiaomi, turned, and walked quickly into the office. She closed the door with a loud bang, startling Yan Xiaomi. She stood there, a little confused. An Yao was angry, very angry.
Yan Xiaomi felt that An Yao probably didn’t want to see her right now, so it was best not to disturb her, lest she say something else that would make her even angrier.
Not being able to see An Yao made Yan Xiaomi very uneasy. She couldn’t sit still at her desk. She got up and paced back and forth near the door. Is An Yao working now? She should be working. The always calm and composed President An was never flustered by anything, unlike herself, who couldn’t keep calm and found it difficult to focus on work when something was on her mind.
After Yan Xiaomi had paced back and forth near the door more than ten times, the office door opened. She immediately darted back to her seat and started working clumsily. An Yao stared at her for a while, then beckoned her with a poker face. “Yan Xiaomi, come here. I have a relationship I want to discuss with you.”
“Huh?” Yan Xiaomi was organizing documents. Hearing An Yao say this, she turned her head to look at her. Her hand movements paused, and the documents slipped from her grasp, scattering onto the floor.
