- Chapter 35 - Mr. Han Asked Me to Take You Somewhere
Han Yezhen’s eyes were too deep, his presence too close, and the memory of yesterday’s vivid, lustful dream made it hard for Li Mohan to breathe.
Her dreams were growing more outrageous by the day.
She was starting to feel overwhelmed.
She couldn’t stay this close to Han Yezhen anymore. Her unease made her voice quiver. “Uncle, is there anything else? If not, I’d like to go study.”
With these days off, she couldn’t afford to fall behind on her schoolwork.
Han Yezhen tilted his head slightly, giving her a faint glance. “Mm, go ahead.”
Relief washed over her, as if she’d been granted a reprieve. She stood, trying to mask her urgency, but her hurried steps betrayed her inner turmoil.
Han Yezhen watched her retreat, her figure fleeing down the hallway, his expression unreadable.
Li Mohan rushed back to her room, gently closing the door. She didn’t dare lock it.
She was wary of him, yet terrified he’d notice.
Leaning against the door, she let out a soft sigh.
After a moment, when her heartbeat steadied, she moved to the desk and sat down.
As she settled in, she noticed the desk seemed perfectly suited to her height, almost as if it had been made for her. How strange.
She typed out a text to Wenhua, asking about school assignments.
Wenhua quickly replied with screenshots of key study points and her neatly organized notes.
Soon after, another message came through.
[Wenhua: Feeling better today?]
[Li Mohan: I’m okay.]
Wenhua, likely still worried, texted back almost immediately.
[Wenhua: When are you coming back to school?]
Li Mohan thought for a moment. She’d taken just two days off.
[Li Mohan: The day after tomorrow.]
Wenhua seemed to relax, but after a long pause, she sent another message.
[Wenhua: Mohan, I’m sorry.]
Li Mohan assumed she was apologizing for not helping with the bullying incident.
[Li Mohan: It’s fine. If you’d stepped in, you’d have just gotten dragged into it too.]
After chatting with Wenhua, Lu Yan messaged her, sending notes from his class for the past two days.
His caring words carried a warmth that seeped through the screen.
After replying, she locked her phone, set it to silent, and placed it face-down on the desk.
Like many girls in the giddy, uncertain phase of a crush, she was fooling herself. Waiting for a reply brought a rush of sweet anticipation, but no response would plunge her into heavy disappointment.
Li Mohan bowed her head, pretending to focus on her homework, only picking up her phone after finishing one subject.
The moment she unlocked the screen, she felt the shift in her emotions, the hidden spark of hope.
She hated this version of herself, but who could truly control their heart at such a young age?
Despite what had happened with Han Yezhen, she still clung to the hope of graduating and having a proper, open relationship someday.
A sudden knock at the door startled her.
Steadying herself, she opened it to find Han Yezhen standing there.
She froze, obediently murmuring, “Uncle.”
He’d changed into a tailored black suit, a pristine three-piece ensemble, impeccable and commanding.
Standing in the doorway, he looked at her. “I’m heading out. I might not be back for dinner. Eat on your own, and leave the dishes—Yang-jie will take care of them.”
Yang-jie was the housekeeper.
A secret thrill bloomed in Li Mohan’s chest. While doing her homework, she’d kept an eye on the closed door, dreading he might barge in.
She nodded, the picture of obedience.
Han Yezhen lingered, and she glanced up, meeting his deep, unreadable gaze. Her heart trembled as she blinked and lowered her eyes.
He said nothing more, turning to leave.
Li Mohan thought the day would pass peacefully.
After dinner, the doorbell rang.
With Han Yezhen around, even the spacious house felt stifling under his overwhelming presence.
Now, alone in the vast space, she felt a mix of hesitation and fear.
Standing behind the door, she called out cautiously, “Who’s there?”
A clear, professional voice answered, “Miss Li, I’m Shen Du, Mr. Han’s personal assistant. Mr. Han asked me to take you somewhere.”
Shen Du?
The name sounded familiar. She vaguely recalled it as the name of the person who’d picked up Han Yezhen before.
Still cautious, she asked, “What’s this about?”
Before Shen Du could respond, her phone rang. It was Han Yezhen.
She answered, “Hello? Uncle?”
His low, steady voice came through, brushing against her ear. “I sent Shen Du to pick you up. Go with him.”
