Bright Moon Shines on Me GL - Chapter 2
The next day, Shen Yuan boarded the Route 128 Bus again.
This time, no wealthy heiress suddenly appeared.
Shen Yuan lowered her head and slowly bit into her red bean bun.
After finishing her breakfast, she leaned against the window and closed her eyes to rest, as usual.
About half an hour later, Shen Yuan got off the bus and walked into the company that had piqued her curiosity for yearsZhaoyang.
As the elevator ascended, Shen Yuan suddenly noticed a familiar figure standing behind her in the reflection of the elevator wall.
The person was looking at her with a smile.
What a coincidence! Did you pass the interview?
Gu Shiwei was dressed in a perfectly tailored suit. The watch on her wrist seemed to have been replaced again its brand was unidentifiable, but it sparkled even more brilliantly than yesterday’s.
Mm-hmm, Shen Yuan nodded, her gaze fixed on the figure reflected in the elevator wall.
Ding!
As the elevator doors opened, Shen Yuan stepped out first. Today, she wore a new Chinese-style long-sleeved shirt, paired with loose black wide-leg pants and white sneakersa stark contrast to the polished, professional look of a white blouse and tailored trousers she had worn on the bus that day.
Gu Shiwei stared at Shen Yuan’s relaxed figure for a few seconds, her eyes flickering with an unreadable emotion.
As a new hire, Shen Yuan was assigned a mentor to help her familiarize herself with the company’s operations. After receiving her employee badge, she was led to her workstation.
Her mentor was a recent graduate working as a Concept Artist, who had joined the company a few months earlier and was already familiar with the workflow.
You’re Shen Yuan? Can I call you Yuan Yuan… Sister? Lu Qingwan suddenly changed her tone after glancing at Shen Yuan’s age on her profile. She had initially assumed Shen Yuan was around her age, given her youthful appearance, but was surprised to discover she was actually a senior colleague.
Shen Yuan extended her hand. Hello, Miss Lu.
As a native of Jiang City in southern China, Shen Yuan found herself in the northern metropolis of Kyoto Sea City. Most people here towered over her by a head, and her fair skin and petite features made her look like a recent college graduate. Lu Qingwan had initially been deceived by her refined appearance.
Lu Qingwan stared at Shen Yuan’s elegant face for a moment, then scratched her head. Just call me Qingwan, okay?
Lu Qingwan had a warm and approachable personality, possessing the clear-eyed innocence unique to university students. Shen Yuan found her company refreshing and comfortable.
The day passed quickly. Their company’s official closing time was 600 PM, with voluntary overtime. Since Shen Yuan had a part-time job starting at 700 PM, she gathered her cloth bag and prepared to leave the office precisely at 600 PM.
Sister Yuan Yuan, are you leaving already? Lu Qingwan suddenly tugged at her sleeve, her eyes wide with surprise.
Shen Yuan held up her phone, displaying the 600 PM time, and asked, Why wouldn’t I?
Of course, you’re supposed to work overtime! Since starting her job, Lu Qingwan had voluntarily worked overtime every day to impress her superiors. She never imagined Shen Yuan, who had just started today, would be so uncompromising, leaving right on the dot!
She felt both envious and impressed.
I have other commitments. I’ll see you tomorrow, Shen Yuan said before quietly slipping out of the office.
Although the official closing time was 600 PM, few employees actually left at that hour. When Shen Yuan stepped into the elevator, she found it already occupied by someonethe woman she had encountered on the Route 128 Bus.
Shen Yuan was initially surprised, but then she remembered Gu Shiwei was just an intern and relaxed. Gu Shiwei didn’t look like someone who needed money she probably worked just to experience life.
From head to toe, Gu Shiwei was completely different from Shen Yuan, a typical office worker. They seemed to belong to different worlds.
You’re Shen Yuan?
Gu Shiwei glanced at Shen Yuan’s employee badge, noting her name and position Shen YuanAssistant Concept Artist Probationary.
Mm-hmm.
Gu Shiwei suddenly stepped closer, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Shen Yuan. It’s just after work. Let me treat you to dinner. I’m Gu Shiwei. Thanks again for what happened last time.
No need. I have things to do. I’m leaving now.
Shen Yuan hurried off to catch the bus, her footsteps quick and urgent.
Gu Shiwei stared at Shen Yuan’s retreating figure, somewhat taken aback. Did she look so intimidating? Why did Shen Yuan always seem desperate to sprout wings and fly away whenever they met?
Gu Shiwei was undeniably beautiful, and her personality wasn’t as obnoxious as other wealthy heirs. Men and women alike flocked to her, making Shen Yuan the first person to consistently push her away.
She looked so refined and well-behaved, but her personality was… surprisingly aloof.
Gu Shiwei had recently returned to China. Tonight, there was a gathering to celebrate, and after work, she headed straight to an upscale bar.
By the time she arrived, most of the guests had already gathered. The private room was filled with young men and women.
These were Gu Shiwei’s childhood friends, and as soon as she entered, they began teasing her to have a drink.
I can’t, I drove here, she replied.
Under the dazzling lights, she spotted a familiar figure and made her way over.
Miss Gu is so hard to get ahold of! You’ve been back for a week, and this is the first time we’ve seen you, Lin Qinghuan teased.
Lin Qinghuan was Gu Shiwei’s childhood friend and best friend. They hadn’t seen each other in over a year.
Gu Shiwei was the only daughter of Gu Qingfeng, the chairman of the Qingfeng Group. After completing her doctoral studies abroad for two years, she returned to China and became the CEO of Zhaoyang, a subsidiary of the Qingfeng Group. With her beauty, wealth, and intelligence, Gu Shiwei was the other people’s child that the parents of her fellow second-generation rich kids always talked about.
There’s no choice. The company’s been too busy.
A new broom sweeps clean, and Gu Shiwei’s position as acting CEO was anything but easy.
Hearing this, everyone grew restless. Your family is the wealthiest in Kyoto Sea! Why are you working so hard?
I have to. I’m the only daughter of the Gu family.
Originally, Gu Shiwei’s mother, Gu Qingfeng, had wanted her to join the Qingfeng Group after her undergraduate studies. But Gu Shiwei’s ambitions lay elsewhere. She pursued postgraduate studies, earning a doctorate in Australia after two years.
Gu Shiwei took a sip of her juice. After a moment, she added, It’s not like I have a choice. There are billions of assets waiting for me to inherit.
Gu Shiwei had been avoiding this fate for six years, which was her mother’s absolute limit. Any longer, and her legs would be broken.
Hearing this, the others in the private room found their expensive drinks tasteless. Damn capitalists! We’ll fight you rich people!
Realizing she had stirred up their anger, Gu Shiwei quickly offered, I’ll cover the bill tonight. Order whatever you want.
Except for Miss Gu, the wealthy heiress, they retorted.
The room erupted in cheers again. They finally dispersed around 1030 PM. Since Gu Shiwei hadn’t been drinking, she drove herself home.
About twenty minutes into her drive, she suddenly spotted a familiar figure by the roadside.
Shen Yuan was walking home slowly after finishing her part-time job, carrying a cup of caramel pearl milk tea that the shop’s owner had treated her to. After walking a short distance, a bright red Ferrari suddenly pulled up in front of her.
Shen Yuan glanced at the car expressionlessly and walked around it, continuing on her way. About ten seconds later, a stunningly beautiful woman with silver-rimmed glasses emerged from the luxury car. Though she smelled of alcohol, her face showed no signs of intoxication. Her chestnut-brown wavy hair, usually cascading down her shoulders, was now tied up, revealing her delicate neck and collarbones.
Gu Shiwei strode over to Shen Yuan in two quick steps, lowered her gaze, and asked, Shen Yuan, what are you doing wandering the streets so late?
Shen Yuan tilted her head, looking at her curiously. Miss Gu, are we that well-acquainted?
Gu Shiwei crossed her arms and leaned against the car, her pale blue eyes fixed intently on Shen Yuan. After running into each other so many times, and being colleagues at the same company, wouldn’t you say we’re at least somewhat familiar?
Gu Shiwei didn’t understand herself. She usually loathed people trying to cozy up to her, but with Shen Yuan, she found herself constantly reaching out.
The worst part was that Shen Yuan seemed utterly indifferent to her advances.
No, I only learned your name today, Shen Yuan replied, preparing to leave with her milk tea. But as she took a step, someone grabbed her wrist.
Gu Shiwei stepped forward and grasped Shen Yuan’s slender wrist, continuing, Shen Yuan, I still owe you a meal. When are you free? Maybe after we eat, we’ll become better acquainted
Smack!
Shen Yuan’s hand jerked violently, causing the milk tea to spill onto the ground. In the next instant, she yanked her hand away and tugged her shirt sleeve down to cover the wrist Gu Shiwei had just touched.
I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to. Let me buy you another one. What flavor do you like? Caramel pearl, perhaps?
Gu Shiwei hadn’t anticipated such a strong reaction. Shen Yuan seemed to dislike being touched the way she had recoiled suggested she had been deeply disturbed.
Shen Yuan lowered her gaze to the shattered milk tea, then murmured softly, Just give me back the money.
What? Gu Shiwei didn’t catch her words.
I said, give me back the money. Shen Yuan looked up, her eyes calm and clear like a still spring. She gestured to the spilled drink. The bus fare plus the milk tea comes to twenty yuan. Once you repay me, we’ll be even.
Gu Shiwei frowned, a rare expression for her. Shen Yuan’s eagerness to sever ties was too obvious. Was she really that disliked? Her face was at least decent, wasn’t it? Why did Shen Yuan loathe her so much?
Let’s add each other on WeChat, Gu Shiwei said calmly. I’ll transfer the money to you.
This time, Shen Yuan didn’t refuse. With stiff movements, she retrieved her phone from her cloth bag, opened WeChat, and held up her payment QR code for Gu Shiwei to scan.
You’ll have to scan mine, Gu Shiwei said, displaying her friend request QR code. My camera’s broken.
After scanning the code, Shen Yuan paused, staring blankly for several seconds before finally tapping Send Friend Request.
Gu Shiwei instantly accepted. Gazing at the user’s cat profile picture, she couldn’t help but smile. I’ll transfer the money when I get back. Come on, I’ll take you home.
Shen Yuan glanced at Gu Shiwei’s luxury car, hesitating before saying, No need. My rented apartment is nearby.
Gu Shiwei studied Shen Yuan’s frail frame and her somewhat vulnerable-looking face. I’ve kept you out this late, and it’s not safe for a young woman to walk home alone at this hour, she insisted firmly. Get in the car.
Gu Shiwei tugged Shen Yuan’s sleeve and ushered her into the passenger seat.
No one had ever sat in Gu Shiwei’s passenger seat before Shen Yuan was the first. Gu Shiwei had been about to help Shen Yuan buckle her seatbelt, but when she turned, she saw Shen Yuan had already expertly clicked it into place.
109 Happiness Road, please.
