Bro, Don't Study Anymore - Chapter 16
7/15
Senior Shen and Little Tang were working together, integrating the hardware modules.
Little Tang announced solemnly: “Student power on, function generator on, and oscilloscope on.”
“Everything’s on.”
Senior Shen laughed: “What’s up with you, Little Tang?”
“Learning hardware makes you crazy. I’m just holding it together.”
They connected all the modules. Senior Shen sighed: “I don’t know how stable my emotions will be after the electronics competition… auto.”
After hitting auto, a strange wave appeared on the oscilloscope.
A sine wave from the function generator should have become an amplified sine wave after passing through the system, but it turned into a bizarre wave.
Little Tang zoomed in and out on the waveform, moving it around, then leaned back in his chair.
“Op-amp, 835… structure is fine.”
Senior Shen traced the signal back with a probe and discovered the multiplier 835 was faulty.
Senior Shen re-soldered the chip, but it still didn’t work well. She pressed the chip by hand, and the waveform slightly improved.
“Cold solder joint? Junior, you try soldering it.”
Little Tang re-soldered it, but the result was the same. Testing the chip’s pins with a multimeter showed they were soldered properly.
“This is so abstract.”
Song-senior returned from lunch and saw them working on the project: “Is it fixed?”
Little Tang showed him the problem.
“Cold solder joint?”
Senior Shen: “Both of us soldered it, and it’s properly soldered.”
“Let’s replace the chip.”
Little Tang looked at the purchase page: “A new chip costs 40 yuan each.”
Song-senior: “That’s expensive.”
“They’ve always been this price, but do they ever really work hard?”
Song-senior laughed, pulling his chair closer and holding Little Tang by the neck: “Not working hard? Who made me turn hardware problems into software ones yesterday?”
Little Tang hunched his shoulders and clasped his hands together, pleading: “I was wrong, senior, I didn’t work hard enough.”
“Senior, do you have any spare multipliers?”
Senior Shen checked her component box: “No, the previous one wasn’t working well.”
Little Tang: “The evaluation is in two days. It’s too late to order now.”
“Does the teacher have any extra chips? Let’s go get one.”
Little Tang checked the teacher’s inventory list but found no extra AD835 chips. He shook his head at Senior Shen.
“Looks like I need to use my connections.” Little Tang called out loudly: “Senior Zhang, do you have any spare multipliers?”
“Why do you need so many multipliers?” Senior Zhang turned around, “But I actually do.”
Senior Zhang handed over a multiplier: “This one has been tested in the competition. It’s reliable.”
Little Tang spread his hands: “Thanks, senior.”
