Bro, Don't Study Anymore - Chapter 31
07/29
“Brother Wang, can we have less homework?” Xiao Tang diligently counted test papers in the office, trying to earn some favors.
The Chinese teacher for Class 1 of Grade 10, Mr. Wang, was bald and had an imposing demeanor that didn’t match the typical image of a Chinese teacher.
“Do you want to skip the 150 points for Chinese?”
“I wouldn’t dare.”
“Then keep counting.”
Mr. Wang was squatting on the ground, pulling out a pile of test papers from under his desk. They had been there so long that the top layer was covered in dust.
“Xiao Tang, move over a bit.”
“Okay,” Xiao Tang stood by the neighbouring teacher’s desk, peeking over, “Seriously, Brother Wang, are these all holiday assignments too?”
Mr. Wang scratched his head and glanced at the papers, “No, these are for Grade 11.”
“That’s a relief,” Xiao Tang felt a moment of sympathy for the Grade 11 students. Without comparison, there’s no harm; their workload was much heavier.
Mr. Wang began counting the Grade 11 papers while Xiao Tang, having quickly finished counting his class’s papers, came over to help.
“Brother Wang, I’m offering my labor for free…”
Mr. Wang gave him a knowing look, “The new tea leaves I bought, you can come make some later. You always mooch off my tea, young man, drink less.”
Xiao Tang grinned, “Thanks, Mr. Wang.”
As they chatted, two male students walked into the office. The first one had a clear voice, “Reporting!”
Xiao Tang looked towards the door. The student was tall and wore his blue-gray school uniform properly, with the sleeves half-rolled to reveal his wrists.
This handsome guy was indeed quite handsome.
“Come in,” Mr. Wang, seeing who it was, put down his work and picked up his tea cup, “Xiao Song, you came at the right time. The papers are here; count them all and distribute them.”
The other student looked at the papers and groaned, “Not cool, Mr. Wang. Why don’t you talk to Ms. Li about this? Do you really think we’re unfeeling homework machines?”
Mr. Wang ignored his complaint, “Hurry up. If you keep whining, Ms. Zhao will add more homework without extending the deadline.”
“…Ms. Li doesn’t understand us at all.”
Mr. Wang left the three of them to join a tea party next door, where a group of Chinese teachers discussed the most fiendish monthly test questions over the purest tea.
All three grades’ uniforms were blue and gray, the only difference being the enrollment year beneath the school badge.
As the two students walked closer, Xiao Tang realized they were seniors.
Senior Song came over first, standing beside Xiao Tang. Mr. Wang’s spot was in the corner, just enough space for two people, while the other senior stood by the neighboring teacher’s desk.
Senior Song handed half the stack of papers to the other boy, “Our class has 54 papers, the other class has 58, all sorted.”
“Do you doubt my efficiency?”
Xiao Tang kept quiet, silently counting the papers in his hands. He didn’t have many to begin with, and after finishing, he felt a bit lost.
“Uh… Senior, these are yours.”
Senior Song paused his work, holding the recently counted papers with one hand, and gave a friendly smile, “Just leave them here, thanks, little junior.”
“You’re welcome,” Xiao Tang picked up his class’s papers, “I’ll be off then.”
