Can Alpha Also Be A Wife? - Chapter 13
Chapter 13: You’re Jealous Of Me…
Night at Hillier Star Government Building
Unlike the busy, bustling planets, the government on the wild star of Hillier usually wrapped up work early and shut down for the night.
One by one, the staff left the building carrying their bags. The lights dimmed floor by floor.
By 8:30 pm, the glow from the last office disappeared into the darkness.
An hour later, three masked figures appeared quietly in an alley nearby. Exchanging glances, they slipped stealthily toward the building.
Dressed in black from head to toe, their steps were light and silent — like ghosts in the night.
The sleepy watchman at the door yawned, barely paying attention, and before he knew it, the trio had passed through and entered inside.
“The monitoring system is fully under control,” Fu Mingxi’s voice came through Ermaili’s comms, accompanied by the tapping of keys. “The signal’s still inside, and no aliens detected.”
Lu Shihuai responded softly, “Don’t worry about him. The chip is the priority.”
“Got it. I’ll stay near the chip to catch any alerts.”
They agreed to split up and search since the chip was tiny and the detection range limited — every room needed checking to be sure.
The building had sixteen floors above ground and one basement level.
Lin Fansheng took on floors eleven through sixteen.
Despite the many offices, he didn’t linger — quickly entering, scanning, and leaving without rummaging too much.
Time ticked by, and Lin Fansheng reached the top floors.
He skillfully unlocked doors and moved as usual.
“Wait, I’ve found something!” Fu Mingxi’s voice suddenly said.
Lin Fansheng paused at the door. “The chip?”
“No, a special frequency is here.”
Fu Mingxi explained the chip’s alert tone was higher pitched so only Lu Shihuai and Jiang Shuran would notice — allowing them to focus on studying Lin Fansheng’s frequency instead.
Following instructions, Lin Fansheng opened the terminal on the desk and watched the flashing data.
After some complex commands, Fu Mingxi declared, “Okay, I’ve successfully hacked in.”
“Let me see… it is indeed contact signals from aliens.”
“This person is definitely collaborating with the outsiders.”
Fu Mingxi flipped the terminal messages upside down.
“The culprit was careless enough to use a public government terminal to communicate with aliens. Asking for trouble.”
He grumbled as he copied the info.
At that moment, the chip beeped.
Fu Mingxi barely glanced before realizing Jiang Shuran had found it. “Shuran, the chip’s there — you can locate it.”
“Strange, the encryption is very basic,” Fu Mingxi muttered, beginning to decode.
He grumbled further, “I didn’t use this level of encryption when I was eight years old. Has Huangxing’s security really gotten this weak?”
Lin Fansheng watched the progress bar on the screen.
When it hit 100%, he shut down the terminal and quickly left the room.
Something felt off to him.
He replayed the details in his mind.
Everything had gone smoothly so far, and he trusted Fu Mingxi’s hacking skills, so that was no concern.
But the signal he found in this room… why did the communication with aliens use a special frequency?
Wouldn’t sending open messages in such an important building risk being discovered?
No — with this planet’s tech, no one would find out.
Except for them.
That made sense: the traitor didn’t expect others from different planets to come to the wild star.
What was wrong then?
After checking around, Lin Fansheng locked the last door, restoring everything.
Then he froze, realizing something: the chip had been located, so there was no need to continue searching.
Since Jiang Shuran had found it, why hadn’t she spoken?
He slowed his breathing, listening to the comms.
One, two… only two breaths.
“Lin Ling, come downstairs.”
“Something happened to Shu Ran!”
The voices of Lu Shihuai and Fu Mingxi came urgently.
Lin Fansheng quickly asked Ermaili, “What’s going on with Jiang Shuran on the first floor?”
Fu Mingxi had replayed the feed and replied immediately, “Basement floor.”
“She’s in the second room on the left, basement level one. The screen went black.”
Fu Mingxi’s tone was serious: “The chip is there too.”
While talking, Lin Fansheng met Lu Shihuai between the tenth and eleventh floors in the stairwell.
Lin Fansheng whispered in his earpiece, “Okay, Lu Shihuai and I will go get her.”
“Be careful and prioritize your safety.”
Fu Mingxi clenched his teeth, worried but helpless — he couldn’t stop them from rescuing Jiang Shuran despite the risk.
He muted himself and slammed his fist on the table.
The ground floor was so dark that not even moonlight penetrated.
Usually, important documents were kept here; the second room on the left was a temporary storage.
Lin Fansheng nodded to Lu Shihuai.
Years of teamwork showed in their silent understanding.
Lin Fansheng stood by the door while Lu Shihuai covered the side.
Lin Fansheng reached out and opened the door cautiously.
He blocked an incoming attack with both hands, grabbing the assailant’s arm and twisting it to subdue him.
But the man was skilled — breaking free quickly and kicking Lin Fansheng’s leg.
A fight broke out in the shadows.
No one could see clearly, and the harder Lin Fansheng hit, the more unnerving it became.
The people of the empire were generally not physically tough — only a few could match this man.
Who was this guy?
While they fought, Lu Shihuai slipped inside.
With poor visibility, he turned on a light to find Jiang Shuran.
She slumped unconscious against the wall.
Lu Shihuai rushed over, checking her pulse, relieved: “She’s alright, just passed out.”
Fu Mingxi’s tension eased instantly on hearing this.
“As long as she’s safe… as long as she’s safe.”
Lin Fansheng’s opponent noticed another person entering and tried to escape, but Lin Fansheng held him fast.
The man’s wild eyes flickered with desperation.
Suddenly, wings—clearly not human—unfolded, and sharp claws slashed at Lin Fansheng’s face.
He dodged, avoiding injury, but his mask was shredded, fragments falling to the floor.
The hybrid man, glimpsing himself under the light, froze.
Then he laughed bitterly in the dark — silent, yet filled with excitement.
“I knew you’d come for me.”
His hoarse voice was steady: “Lin Shenghuai.”
Lu Shihuai shone his light fully on the man’s silver-blue hair and peculiar gray-blue eyes.
“Lanlos,” Lu Shihuai said.
Lanlos didn’t react to his name, only staring at Lin Fansheng.
“I’ve been waiting for you.”
“You took longer than I expected. Are you seriously hurt?”
His expression shifted from madness to worry, showing vulnerability.
“I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
Lin Fansheng stepped back warily.
This was the alien he remembered — the one who had caused him the most pain.
“Run again!” Lanlos’s face twisted in desperation. “The chip is with me. Where else would you go?”
“I love you so much. Why do you have to go back to the Empire? Wouldn’t it be better to stay with me?”
Lin Fansheng studied him, intrigued by this strange creature.
His face changed quickly — he hadn’t learned to mask his emotions before losing his memory?
“I get it, you don’t like my appearance. I’ll take it back.”
Lanlos retracted his wings and claws.
“This time I look how you want. Can you come back with me?”
Lin Fansheng was speechless.
This guy was definitely a little unwell — literally, no subtlety.
What had happened before he lost his memory to have encountered such a bizarre person?
After Lu Shihuai identified Lanlos, he injected Jiang Shuran with an antidote.
He helped her awake and brought her to safety, then closed the door firmly.
Hearing Lanlos’s words, Lu Shihuai grabbed Lin Fansheng’s waist and held him tightly.
“Not going anywhere with you.”
Lanlos looked toward Lu Shihuai, roaring: “Lu Shihuai, let him go!”
Lu Shihuai sneered, “Ha! You came all the way to our Empire to kidnap people? Your Royal Highness, the proud crown prince, stoops this low? What would your people say?”
“Your father doesn’t know, does he?”
Lanlos’s fury boiled. His wings spread, claws ready to strike.
But upon seeing Lin Fansheng, he grew timid.
“Give me Lin Fansheng, and I’ll sign a thousand-year peace treaty with the Empire.”
“Forget it!” Lu Shihuai tightened his grip.
Lin Fansheng asked, “Are you serious?”
“Don’t trust him,” Lu Shihuai warned. “He’s the most powerful clan in the alien alliance. Intermarriage with outsiders is forbidden. He’s basically treating you like a mistress.”
Lin Fansheng groaned, “Can you pick a different word?”
He stepped on Lu Shihuai’s foot, who winced.
“Anyway, it’s not his call. His father will reign for another few centuries. Trust me more than him.”
“When have I ever not believed you?”
Lin Fansheng pulled Lu Shihuai away.
He looked at the red-eyed Lanlos: “You must have had a tough time hiding here, huh?”
The crown prince could only hide in the Huangxing Warehouse. After a moment’s thought, Lanlos knew he had no allies now.
“I won’t go with you. Hand over the chip, and I’ll let you leave the Empire.”
Lanlos spat, “Impossible!”
Lin Fansheng dropped the negotiation and attacked.
Though originally stronger, Lanlos’s chaotic fighting out of anger made him vulnerable.
Lu Shihuai joined in, equally furious.
Someone stealing their people right in front of them, and they hadn’t killed him yet because it was complicated.
Lu Shihuai took hits, wincing in pain.
After a tough fight, Lanlos was left beaten — swollen and bruised.
Lin Fansheng tied him up and stuffed a towel in his mouth.
Lanlos struggled against Lu Shihuai’s touch, calming only when Lin Fansheng held him.
Lin Fansheng had no choice but to carry him out.
The three who entered the building now left as four.
Fu Mingxi anxiously checked Jiang Shuran for wounds. Finding none, he buried his head in her chest, whining.
“Whew, you scared me! Glad you’re okay.”
Jiang Shuran patted him gently, then smiled at everyone.
Before Lin Fansheng’s surprised eyes, she picked up Fu Mingxi and walked off.
“Wow — is that how they get along?”
Lu Shihuai shrugged, “Fu Mingxi’s unbeatable online but useless otherwise. Sister Shu Ran’s tough.”
He then approached Lanlos, kicking the towel away.
“Explain your relationship with Asheng.”
Lanlos glared, “Humph, he and I have slept together. Lu Shihuai, don’t try to steal him.”
Lu Shihuai kicked him in the chest, unimpressed.
“Do you think I believe that?”
Lanlos gasped, smirked, “You…”
Lu Shihuai’s next strike was even harder.
Lanlos laughed bitterly, “You’re jealous.”
Lin Fansheng sighed.
Seeing the conversation take a weird turn, he dragged Lu Shihuai aside.
“Don’t listen to him. Remember how we fought to the death? And you believe he slept with me? He must be losing it.”
“Yeah, you’re right.”
Lu Shihuai’s gloom faded.
He kissed Lin Fansheng’s head — not a real kiss, just a gesture.
Holding him close, he glanced at Lanlos’s furious glare with a sly smile.
“No one steals from me and gets away with it.”
“Angry?”
Lu Shihuai stepped closer to Lanlos, licking his bitten lips.
“Ever kissed Asheng?”
Lanlos growled, “Lu Shihuai!”
Lu Shihuai’s smirk confirmed his answer.
All Lanlos’s stories were lies.
Lu Shihuai crouched and poked him.
Lanlos tensed but watched warily.
“Don’t worry, I’m only interested in Asheng, not you,” Lu Shihuai said. “Tell me where the chip is, and I won’t touch you.”
His tone was calm, but inside he worried.
No trace of the chip — not even subspace signatures.
Lanlos sneered, face purple: “You’ll never find it unless I’m dead.”
Lu Shihuai searched again.
Nothing.
He shook his head at Lin Fansheng.
Lin Fansheng frowned, “Let it be for now, just stay alive.”
He dragged Lanlos to the utility room.
Lu Shihuai approached Lin Fansheng, hesitant.
“What is it?”
Lin Fansheng waited patiently.
Finally, Lu Shihuai blurted out, “Do you think Lanlos is handsome?”
Lin Fansheng thought for a moment.
Lanlos was striking — rare silver-blue hair and captivating gray-blue eyes.
Aside from his occasional madness, his looks were undeniable.
He nodded, “He’s good looking.”
Lu Shihuai pressed on, “And his abilities?”
Lin Fansheng recalled: Lanlos caused his injury, once had the chip, but it was taken back.
Aside from emotional instability, he was impressive.
“Good.”
Lu Shihuai’s eyes darkened slightly.
“Then you must choose me.”
Lin Fansheng raised an eyebrow, “Choose?”
“Choose. I’ll protect you, not let you get hurt. And I’ll beat anyone who tries to take you away.”
Lin Fansheng smiled faintly.
“That sounds familiar.”
Lu Shihuai leaned in, whispering, “Because it’s me.”
