Can Alpha Also Be A Wife? - Chapter 14
Chapter 14: Tangled In Love And Hate…
Because several people had stayed up late, it was already past two in the morning when Lin Fansheng finally returned to his room. The moment his head hit the pillow, sleep overtook him.
In his dream, he found himself in an unfamiliar place.
Walls white as snow, lights glaring and harsh… blinding.
Lin Fansheng was fully aware he was dreaming, yet he couldn’t control his actions. What unfolded before his eyes was vivid and real.
He was running, shouting…
“Lin Fansheng!”
“He has the chip, stop him!”
“Spy from the empire!”
Voices shouted behind him as they chased him down. Clutching the chip tightly, “Lin Fansheng” broke through blockers one after another, heading toward a predetermined direction.
The chip was crafted from special materials and couldn’t be stored in subspace. If it reached there, it would be safe to escape…
Lin Fansheng noted the place “he” was running toward.
The people “he” met were all foreigners, and the place resembled a laboratory—
No, an experimental planet!
Seeing “himself” appear there, Lin Fansheng immediately rejected his earlier guess.
The sky was crowded with battleships, and the ground was dotted with countless navigation weapons locked onto “him.”
How could “he” have escaped under such conditions?
Just as the question formed, a strange machine appeared where “Lin Fansheng” was.
The tall, imposing silver-gray mech seemed to cast a solemn atmosphere.
Though he had never seen it before, the name — Yin Yao — instantly came to Lin Fansheng’s mind.
“Coming out like this and causing trouble for you.”
Inside the mech cabin, “Lin Fansheng” murmured to the cold machine.
He glanced at the virtual screen’s projection. His hands moved swiftly, but for a moment, Lin Fansheng couldn’t quite make out the controls he was operating.
He only remembered that after all the shadows, the sound of endless explosions filled his ears.
Then darkness overtook him, and he slipped fully into sleep.
. . . . .
Outside the door, Lu Shihuai stood quietly by Lin Fansheng’s bedroom, posture straight and composed.
Hearing steady breathing from inside, he turned and left.
His footsteps were silent, and his black clothes, still unchanged, made him blend into the night.
Downstairs in the utility room, Lanros struggled against his chains, desperate to break free.
The scraping metal was soon drowned out by the sound of the door opening.
The sudden light forced Lanros to close his eyes. The next moment, a force slammed him into the corner.
“Ahem…” Lanros squinted, slumped to the floor, and sneered upon seeing who it was. “Done pretending?”
Lu Shihuai said nothing, only lowered his gaze, his expression cold.
“Pathetic, Lu Shihuai,” Lanros grinned bitterly, the wounds on his face twisting his smile.
“So, Lin Fansheng is Lin Ling, huh?”
Lanros laughed maniacally. “He’d rather come to the league to seduce me than stay with you.”
He spat bl00d with his fury.
His eyes glinted dangerously, hoping to provoke Lu Shihuai into losing his composure—and jealousy.
But Lu Shihuai remained unmoved.
“Tell me what really happened to you in the league.”
“Think I’d tell you?” Lanros scoffed.
Lu Shihuai pressed down on his hand, speaking slowly: “I know your people from Tianyi value their hands and wings most. If I destroy them… would your father still care about you?”
“You dare!” Lanros’s eyes darkened with rage, and his body ignited with a fierce mental force, forcing him back down.
“Guess I do,” Lu Shihuai said, his strength surging as he crushed Lanros’s fingertips.
Pain and fury filled Lanros’s veins, yet he spat back, “If something happens to the empire, the alliance will tear up the treaty immediately. You want to be the empire’s villain?”
Lu Shihuai withdrew his foot, listening.
Lanros sneered, “Seems your fingers are useless, better to tear off your wings.”
“You!” Lanros’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Using mental force, Lu Shihuai compelled him to spread his wings.
Lanros cursed madly.
He thought himself unhinged before, but compared to Lu Shihuai’s calm determination, he now seemed ordinary.
Not blinded by love or neglecting the survival of his own people.
Gritting his teeth, Lanros finally said, “Fine, I’ll talk.”
The mental pressure lifted.
He retracted his wings, now barely visible, and slowly sat up to speak with Lu Shihuai.
“I’m thirsty—mind if I have some water?”
Knowing Lu Shihuai wasn’t afraid, he negotiated calmly.
Lu Shihuai casually tossed him a water bottle and even unscrewed the cap for him.
“So kind?” Lanros hesitated, suspicious of any poison.
“Tell me about him,” Lu Shihuai said, eyes cold.
Lanros became the storyteller.
After drinking, he sighed deeply: “You treat Lin Ling like a dog—everyone knows it. I mocked you, but now I believe it.”
“You’re reckless enough to risk the treaty for him.”
“Looks like you two are meant for each other.”
Lanros sneered, “I heard he even killed his own teacher.”
“Shut up!” Lu Shihuai cut him off angrily.
Lanros smirked, “Two cold-hearted men like you? Your empire’s days are numbered.”
“I’d love to see the faces of the empire’s people if they knew who you really are.”
Before Lu Shihuai could react, Lanros raised a hand, showing weakness. “Calm down, I’m telling you about Lin Fansheng.”
. . . .
The tale was brief. After finishing, Lanros drank the last sip from the bottle.
“That’s all. We’ve only known each other a few months.”
“I really like him.”
Lanros smiled provocatively, “If you don’t want him, I’ll take him.”
“He won’t go with you.”
Lanros asked, “He came here to seduce me, how do you know he’s not interested?”
“He didn’t seduce you,” Lu Shihuai replied.
From what Lanros described, Lu Shihuai knew it wasn’t seduction but a calculated act to gain trust.
Lanros only felt seduced because of his unstable mind.
“Lu Shihuai, do you know what’s best for him?”
“His bl00d,” Lanros answered himself.
His cheeks flushed strangely. “His bl00d is the most beautiful I’ve ever seen—especially when I cut into his skin. It’s like red plum blossoms blooming on white snow.”
“If we were together, I’d see that beauty every day.”
His voice softened but held a strange undertone.
“But he doesn’t like me!” he suddenly yelled. “Why doesn’t he like me?!”
“He provoked me first!”
“I love him so much, why doesn’t he love me?”
Lanros’s wild cry echoed through the room.
After his outburst, he looked red-faced at his only listener.
“Do you know why I’m like this? It’s all Lin Fansheng’s fault!”
“You’ll end up like me too!” Lanros laughed.
Then he seemed to pray, “Give him to me, Lu Shihuai. Please, give him to me.”
Lu Shihuai grimaced.
Turning, he tried to leave.
Behind him, Lanros laughed wildly, his expression distorted.
“Lin Fansheng has no heart. You’re just as pathetic as me, hahahaha.”
“He doesn’t love me or you. He doesn’t love anyone!”
Lu Shihuai didn’t want to hear such madness and hurried his steps.
Suddenly, Lanros called out hoarsely: “Don’t you want to know where the chip is?”
Lu Shihuai paused, turning to him. “I only suspect it’s inside you.”
“But you don’t know the exact spot,” Lanros said.
“Why not ask Lin Fansheng?” His voice was seductive. “He saw me embed the chip in my body.”
“If he found me, why hasn’t he taken it?”
Lu Shihuai gave him a cold glance and left silently.
Only one person remained in the utility room.
Lanros murmured, “I know—he has amnesia.”
“Unexpectedly, he lost his memory.”
He stretched out his fingers like claws, digging sharply into his abdomen.
Instantly, a ring made of flesh and bl00d appeared in his hands.
“Lin Fansheng… Lin Ling, didn’t expect fate would grant us an alliance opportunity.”
“As punishment for not loving me, you’ll suffer first.”
Lanros kissed the ring, smiling brightly.
Upstairs in the study, Fu Mingxi rubbed his tired eyes, dark circles beneath them.
After viewing the surveillance footage, he told those around him, “It’s not a chip, he’s just being cautious.”
Lu Shihuai sat nearby, calm.
“Since he found out about Lin Ling’s amnesia, what should we do?” Fu Mingxi asked.
“No big deal,” Lu Shihuai tapped the table thoughtfully. “Trace the origin of this ring.”
“Alright.”
Fu Mingxi zoomed in on the ring’s image. After some tweaking, the blurred video became crystal clear.
He sent the picture to a contact.
Once his official work was done, Fu Mingxi’s expression fell.
“I told you, Lu Shihuai, you can watch surveillance yourself. Why drag me into it?”
After hearing all the tangled love and hate, he felt sick.
“There’s something more important to discuss.”
Fu Mingxi asked puzzled, “What could be more important?”
Everything solvable was handled, the rest was underway—what else could there be?
“If I say…” Lu Shihuai paused, “I want to take Lin Ling to find Shen Muxing?”
