Can Alpha Also Be A Wife? - Chapter 3
Chapter 3 – Leaving the Forest…
Early the next morning, Lin Fansheng and Lu Shihuai stood in front of the escape pod, discussing their next steps.
“Are you sure you want to leave it here?” Lin Fansheng pointed at the white device, double-checking again.
The thing was huge and obviously expensive. Just leaving it here felt like a waste.
“The subspace container is broken. We can only leave it here unless…” Lu Shihuai’s gaze unintentionally landed on Lin Fansheng’s right ear, and then he added, “You happen to have a subspace container on you too.”
After their talk last night, their relationship had improved significantly.
Lu Shihuai had explained a lot of basic knowledge about this world to Lin Fansheng, including the concept of subspace containers. They were a kind of storage item that could hold things in another dimension, and to make them easier to carry, they were usually designed to look like accessories.
“I don’t think I have one…” Lin Fansheng said uncertainly.
Lu Shihuai nodded without commenting. “Let’s go. Someone will come handle this.”
“If we don’t leave now, the people chasing me will catch up.”
“…You couldn’t have said that earlier?!” Lin Fansheng couldn’t help but glare at him.
He was being hunted and still had time to leisurely chat with him? Either he was brainless or incredibly confident in his own strength.
Though Lin Fansheng suspected it was the latter, it didn’t stop him from snapping at Lu Shihuai.
He was seriously injured—if they hadn’t met, what would he have done if he’d been caught?
Lu Shihuai chuckled, “It’s fine. Someone will save me.”
He glanced at Lin Fansheng meaningfully, then broke off a branch, looked at the sun, and began drawing on the ground.
Lin Fansheng didn’t notice the look in his eyes. Curious about what he was doing, he walked over. “You calculating the time?”
“Direction.” Lu Shihuai replied briefly while drawing, “Most habitable planets rotate and revolve in set patterns. But not Hilier—it’s affected by gravitational interference, so its direction isn’t fixed. You can’t rely on normal logic here.”
Lin Fansheng glanced at the scribbles but couldn’t make sense of them. Bored, he squatted beside him and played with some grass.
“How long have I been here?” Lu Shihuai asked as he completed the final line.
“Since yesterday afternoon,” Lin Fansheng replied without looking up.
“Mm. Then that way is north.” Lu Shihuai pointed about 30 degrees to the right of the sun. “This planet is 30% forest and desert, 65% ocean, and only 5% human territory.”
“Based on my descent trajectory and speed before I blacked out…” He went on to explain his calculations, throwing in technical terms now and then, before concluding, “We’re already at the forest’s edge.”
“Just keep heading west and we’ll get out.”
“…You’re amazing!” Lin Fansheng said.
He hadn’t understood a word of the process, but he definitely understood the conclusion.
He was sure now—he’d definitely teamed up with the right person. With someone like Lu Shihuai around, getting home wouldn’t be a problem!
He stared at the “scribbles” on the ground with shining eyes, then stood up and praised Lu Shihuai with all his might.
“How did you even figure that out? Teach me! If you won’t, then take me as your apprentice—I can do anything!”
Grabbing Lu Shihuai’s hand, his face was full of anticipation.
Those bright black eyes sparkled like starlight, pulling people in.
Lu Shihuai froze for a moment, then pulled his hand back and turned away. “Don’t look at me like that.” He subtly clenched his fingers and added, “I don’t take students. Besides, this is just basic knowledge for every Imperial Military Academy graduate. Nothing special.”
Lin Fansheng became even more excited. “That’s school knowledge?! Does that school still accept students? Can I apply?”
Lu Shihuai: “…”
His gaze flickered for a second before he coughed and replied, “It’s not enrollment season yet. Maybe next time you can try.”
A graduate going back to retake the course—his professors would probably throw him out.
…He was really starting to run out of excuses.
He was never good at lying to Lin Fansheng.
“Actually, you’re even better at finding the way out than me. You don’t need to learn this.” Lu Shihuai forced himself to sound calm. “This forest is surrounded by ocean on three sides, and you headed in the right direction from the start.”
Lin Fansheng shrugged. “That was just intuition. Bit of a gamble.”
But Lu Shihuai’s data-backed methods were way more convincing.
Not intuition.
Lu Shihuai parted his lips, but didn’t say it.
That person wouldn’t have randomly chosen an evacuation site, so Lin Fansheng definitely knew this place.
But Lin had already started sensing something was off, and saying more would only expose him faster.
Still, it was so hard to stay silent around him…
Pretending to be strangers already took all his energy.
Lu Shihuai took a deep breath and calmly said, “Intuition comes from accumulated experience. Maybe you’ve been here before.”
That statement should be safe.
He reviewed it in his head and nodded to himself.
“Maybe.” Lin Fansheng nodded thoughtfully.
“But once I get out, I’m definitely getting into that academy!” He grabbed Lu Shihuai’s arm. “Come on, let’s leave the forest first.”
He walked ahead, not seeing the complicated, conflicted look on Lu Shihuai’s face.
With Lu Shihuai leading the way, the journey was smooth.
The trees thinned out, and signs of human activity started appearing.
Lin Fansheng’s steps were light, but he quickly turned around with concern.
“How are your injuries? Need to rest?”
They’d walked most of the day, and Lu Shihuai had silently followed him despite being wounded. If not for a slight disturbance in his breathing earlier, Lin Fansheng might’ve thought he was fully recovered.
He immediately blamed himself—just because he healed fast didn’t mean everyone did.
He had to be more mindful of Lu Shihuai. This guy was the silent, self-sacrificing type.
“I’m fi—” Lu Shihuai started to decline, not wanting to hold him back.
But seeing the worry in Lin’s eyes, he frowned slightly and let out a soft hiss. “It’s nothing, just a little painful.”
As soon as he spoke, his face paled, and he swayed like he was about to drop dead.
Bl00d trickled from the corner of his mouth.
Lin Fansheng panicked and rushed to catch him.
“Hold on! I’ll get you a doctor!”
“…Mm…” Lu Shihuai weakly replied.
Lin Fansheng bit his lip and held him tighter.
Lu Shihuai buried his head in Lin’s chest, breathing in deeply.
A faint scent of gardenias—it was the same as in his memories.
He closed his eyes in contentment.
This was enough. He’d never asked for more.
If Lin ever got his memory back, he’d probably beat the crap out of him.
One beating for one hug—seemed like a good deal.
Lu Shihuai couldn’t help but chuckle softly.
But that tiny laugh scared Lin Fansheng, who thought he was losing consciousness.
“Lu Shihuai! Don’t sleep—I can see people up ahead!”
Lu Shihuai tensed and quickly suppressed his emotions. He weakly murmured, “I… cough… I’m okay.”
He leaned against Lin’s chest, feeling his strong heartbeat, a faint blush spreading across his face.
If only his amnesia could last longer…
Lin Fansheng was nearly frantic. He dashed toward the city gate, completely unaware of the attention he drew.
He stopped in front of a slim long-haired man and urgently asked, “Excuse me—where’s the hospital? My friend is dying!”
The man was startled, but upon seeing Lu Shihuai, he quickly said, “Don’t worry—I’ll call an ambulance for you.”
“Thank you!”
As they waited, the long-haired man kept glancing at Lin Fansheng.
He couldn’t help but ask, “Is he your boyfriend?”
Lin Fansheng was tall, handsome, and strong enough to carry a grown man princess-style for ages. The man was smitten.
“…Huh?” Lin Fansheng didn’t even look at him.
His entire focus was on Lu Shihuai, watching his condition closely. He hadn’t even registered the question.
The man assumed it was rejection and looked disappointed.
Meanwhile, Lu Shihuai, nestled in Lin’s arms, had already dozed off peacefully.
If he’d heard that question, he might’ve miraculously “recovered” on the spot.
Soon, a red-and-blue flashing ambulance arrived via a special aerial lane and landed smoothly in front of them.
A team of medics with a stretcher made a beeline for them.
Lin Fansheng handed Lu Shihuai over and thanked the long-haired man again.
“I’m Lin Fansheng. Let me know if you ever need help.”
The man waved him off. “It’s fine, really. The ambulance is free—I didn’t do anything.”
Lin didn’t push it and followed the medical team into the ambulance.
The long-haired man watched the vehicle depart, looking despondent.
Someone came up and patted him on the back. “Don’t be sad. The right person will come along.”
“People from different worlds aren’t meant to be. Just treat today as a beautiful encounter.”
The man sniffled. “I know. That’s why I didn’t ask for his contact info.”
“I’m glad. Now—guess what I got?” The friend pulled out two coupons. “Cake on me!”
The slender man chuckled and wiped away his tears. “Okay—I want the new flavor!”
At the hospital corridor—
Lin Fansheng sat outside the emergency room, watching the indicator light silently.
When it finally turned from red to green, several staff wheeled Lu Shihuai out. Lin quickly stood to meet them.
“Hi, I’m Lu Shihuai’s friend. How is he?”
The doctor gave him a complicated look and sighed. “Come with me—I need to explain something.”
A few minutes later, inside the consultation room, a female Beta doctor pushed the report toward Lin.
“He’s suffering from bl00d loss, prolonged mental strain, and numerous old injuries. His previous wounds hadn’t even healed before he got new ones. Even as an Alpha, he can’t withstand this level of stress.”
“But that’s not the main issue.” She paused. “Does he have an Omega?”
“Ah?” Lin looked puzzled.
Lu Shihuai had explained the Alpha/Beta/Omega system to him before, but never anything personal.
The doctor’s face turned grave. “His current mental state is extremely unstable. Without an Omega to help regulate him, he could lose control.”
“When he wakes up, we’ll inform him. I hope, as his friend, you can persuade him to find an Omega and settle down.”
Lin nodded. “Got it. Thank you, doctor.”
As he left, holding the report and staring at the alarming test results, he frowned.
It seemed Lu Shihuai was really in danger. He couldn’t believe he had doubted him earlier.
He had panicked when Lu Shihuai coughed up bl00d, but after they got to the hospital and he reflected on their time together, something started to feel off.
Too deliberate—like he’d done it all for show.
What could Lu Shihuai gain from this?
They were both Alphas, and even if Lu knew him, what could he possibly want from an amnesiac?
Lin Fansheng couldn’t make sense of it, nor explain how he felt right now.
After a while, he sighed quietly and headed for Lu Shihuai’s room.
Forget it—for now, the priority was to take care of the patient.
Everything else could wait.
