Can Alpha Also Be A Wife? - Chapter 4
Chapter 4 – He Doesn’t Want to Hear It…
Halfway down the hall, Lin Fansheng was stopped by a nurse.
“Hello, Mr. Lin, are you the relative of the patient in Room 302?”
After Lin Fansheng confirmed, the nurse handed him a slip: “This is the medical bill. Please make the payment when convenient.”
“Okay.”
After parting with the nurse, Lin Fansheng stared silently at the six-digit amount in galactic credits.
The payment slip clearly outlined the electronic payment process—scan the billing code using your communicator.
His communicator was still locked, and Lu Shihuai’s communicator was broken. So how were they supposed to pay this?
Repairing the communicator required credits—but they had none.
Resetting the password required contacting three relatives or close friends—but he didn’t even know who he was.
Lin Fansheng thought it over. He should probably go to the local government for help.
“I suggest you don’t.”
After hearing Lin Fansheng’s plan, Lu Shihuai finished the last spoonful of porridge and spoke.
“Ordinary communicators only have two levels of passwords. Lin Fansheng, you should know what that means.”
Lin Fansheng touched the bracelet on his wrist, falling silent.
“Your identity isn’t ordinary. Maybe your memory loss isn’t a coincidence,” Lu Shihuai analyzed calmly. “If your enemies are part of this planet’s government, going to them directly would just expose yourself.”
“And if they track you, they’ll also find me—which would put me in serious danger.”
Then something occurred to Lin Fansheng: “Wait… I used your name during your treatment. Could that expose you?”
Lu Shihuai gave him a reassuring look. “No. As long as you didn’t register my identity chip number, it’s fine.”
Lin Fansheng let out a breath of relief. Thankfully, he’d only written Lu Shihuai’s name and gender on the form—he didn’t even know the man’s age.
What he didn’t know was that only direct relatives or partners were permitted to access someone’s identity chip number—it was the sole proof of one’s identity in the Empire.
Lu Shihuai grabbed a notepad and pen from the bedside drawer and started writing seriously, each stroke deliberate.
“This is the account number for my interstellar bank card. The password is… You can pay the bill at the front desk manually.”
“Mm… If you’re paying without a card, you’ll probably need ID verification. I just had surgery and can’t move,” Lu Shihuai thought for a moment, then added a string of letters and numbers. “This is my identity chip number. Enter it if verification is required.”
Lin Fansheng didn’t take the slip of paper. He asked, “Won’t this expose you?”
“They don’t have the authority to check my transaction records,” Lu Shihuai replied calmly, clearly unbothered by his pursuers. “If I hadn’t left in a hurry, those people wouldn’t have dared touch me.”
Hospital treatment records are part of a public system, which his enemies could monitor—but his private bank account? They wouldn’t dare.
Lu Shihuai lowered his eyes, hiding the cold sharpness in them. When he returned, it would be time to clean out the parasites feeding off the Empire.
With Lu Shihuai’s assurance, Lin Fansheng didn’t hesitate further. He picked up the slip, but just as he was about to leave, he suddenly asked, “Lu Shihuai, why did you come here?”
The question might’ve been invasive, but Lin Fansheng found himself genuinely wanting to know the answer.
Why would someone like Lu Shihuai come to a planet that was considered barren and lawless?
Lu Shihuai looked up at him, his voice soft, as though afraid to disturb something fragile.
“Because… someone is waiting for me.”
His gaze fell, and a faint smile appeared.
Due to certain reasons, Lu Shihuai rarely showed emotion. When he didn’t smile, he seemed like ice that never melted. But when he did smile, it was like the gentle ripple of spring water stirring the heart.
“I haven’t seen him in six months. A week ago, I received a signal from him—coordinates pointed to Hilier, so I came here to find him.”
Speaking of someone he cared about, Lu Shihuai’s voice became impossibly gentle.
“I know he went on a very dangerous mission. I’m the person he trusts most, so I was the only one who received the message to come meet him.”
“As for those trying to kill me—they’re from a faction in the Imperial Capital. But…” Lu Shihuai paused, then chose not to continue.
“I see…” Lin Fansheng nodded thoughtfully. “So, are you still going to look for him?”
Since Lu Shihuai landed and was picked up by him, clearly he hadn’t found the person yet.
“Mm. Once the communicator is fixed, I’ll contact him,” Lu Shihuai replied, eyes shifting slightly.
Recalling the doctor’s advice, Lin Fansheng asked, “Do you have an Omega?”
Was the person Lu Shihuai was waiting for possibly that Omega?
“No,” Lu Shihuai denied immediately. “Why? Are you trying to find one for me?”
The smile faded from his face, and his tone turned cold—clearly displeased.
“The doctor said your mental state is unstable and you need an Omega to stabilize you,” Lin Fansheng relayed honestly. “She told me to convince you to find an Omega and get married.”
“I don’t need one!” Lu Shihuai slammed the table.
He stared at Lin Fansheng, teeth clenched. “I know my own body—an Omega can’t stabilize me.”
“Don’t listen to her, and stop bringing up Omegas with me, okay?”
A/O pairings were a natural law—and the stronger the Alpha, the more they needed an Omega.
He knew that.
But he didn’t want to hear it.
“Oh, alright,” Lin Fansheng stood up.
He had only known Lu Shihuai for a day. Since the man refused, there was no need to insist.
“I’ll go pay the bill.”
“Right, give me your communicator—I’ll take it to get repaired.” Lin Fansheng reached out.
Lu Shihuai silently removed the bracelet and placed it in his palm.
The warmth of their fingertips meeting made his face flush uncontrollably.
He quickly pulled back his trembling fingers, trying to act normal. “Go on, I need to rest.”
Lin Fansheng saw him pull the blanket over his head and didn’t press him. He cleared away the empty bowls, lowered the bedside table, closed the curtains, and quietly left the room.
Inside the ward, after hearing the door shut, Lu Shihuai peeked out from under the blanket. His face was unnaturally red, his body trembling slightly, and he was biting down hard on the finger that had touched Lin Fansheng.
Faint, broken sounds escaped his lips, as though he were enduring excruciating pain.
Sunlight filtered through the blue curtains, casting diagonal lines across the rising and falling shape of the blanket.
In this single-occupancy hospital room, the Alpha pheromones clinging to every corner were intense and overwhelming. No one could see the obsession hidden within his ice-cold scent.
After a while, Lu Shihuai finally suppressed the surge in his mental power.
His body relaxed, his eyes empty as he whispered softly, “Lin Ling, I miss you so much…”
Long fingers covered his face, shielding the eyes clouded with lust and emotion.
The doctor was right—he did need to be soothed.
—By an Alpha.
After paying Lu Shihuai’s bill, Lin Fansheng left the hospital.
Only once he was outside did he realize—this planet was actually quite prosperous. It looked nothing like a so-called barren star.
He had been so focused on Lu Shihuai’s condition earlier that he hadn’t noticed his surroundings.
The streets bustled with people. Hovercars zipped through the skies. In the distance, one building stood taller than all the rest.
Even without a communicator, it was hard to function on this highly intelligent planet—but thankfully, there were self-service terminals by the street.
Lin Fansheng used the city-wide map and saw the name of that tall building.
The Hilier Planet Government Building.
It was located in the very center of the city. From the rooftop, one could probably see the entire skyline.
He stared at it for a few moments before turning his attention back to the terminal.
“Communicator repair shops… nothing… machine repair shops… Ah, here.”
Memorizing the route, Lin Fansheng chose the simplest form of transportation—walking.
He had no choice. The credits he was carrying were all from Lu Shihuai, and he felt awkward using them.
Half an hour later, a chime sounded as he pushed open the shop’s door.
The little workshop filled with machines welcomed its first customer of the day.
Lin Fansheng looked around and finally spotted the shop owner sunbathing by the window.
The owner was a Beta man—his hair messy, face unshaven, and looking thoroughly disheveled.
When he saw Lin Fansheng walk in, his eyes flickered slightly, but he continued lounging in his chair, lazily saying, “Xiao Bai, go greet the customer.”
“On it!” chirped a cheerful mechanical voice near the door.
The robot named Xiao Bai had a round, chubby body and was entirely white—adorably cute.
It rolled on small wheels up to Lin Fansheng, its display showing a smiley face: “Hello, guest. Xiao Bai is at your service. How can I help you today?”
It was Lin Fansheng’s first time being greeted by a robot, and he stared at it curiously.
He’d seen robots in the hospital, but they were only used for cleaning—critical positions were still handled by humans.
When lives were at stake, no one wanted to rely entirely on machines.
“I want to repair a communicator, please.”
Lin Fansheng placed Lu Shihuai’s bracelet on Xiao Bai’s tray.
“Please wait a moment,” Xiao Bai led him to the waiting area.
Then the screen on its face turned into a crying wavy line. It rolled up to the Beta man, holding the bracelet with a pleading tone: “Master, Xiao Bai doesn’t know how to fix a communicator.”
The man rubbed his eyes and muttered, “You’re so dumb.”
“Xiao Bai is not dumb!”
“Yeah, yeah, I know—you’re not dumb.” He yawned and got up reluctantly.
Walking over to the workbench, he began dismantling the bracelet. While working, he asked Lin Fansheng, who was watching curiously, “Is this bracelet yours?”
“Why?” Lin Fansheng didn’t answer directly.
After what Lu Shihuai told him, he realized the people chasing them were powerful—he needed to be more cautious.
“After repair, the bracelet might be a bit smaller. The owner needs to try it on.”
“It’s fine—just fix it.”
The shop owner didn’t press further and continued working in silence.
Lin Fansheng watched his every movement closely.
After a few clinks and clatters, the bracelet was fully restored. The shop owner placed it into Xiao Bai’s hands.
“If there are any problems, feel free to come back. Adjustments are free of charge.”
