Can Alpha Also Be A Wife? - Chapter 9
Chapter 9: The Proof Exists…
“Drop the word ‘think.’ He is Lin Ling.”
“…”
Fu Mingxi furrowed her brow, unable to hold back. “I understand your conviction, but the two are incredibly different, and you know Lin Ling’s personality well…”
She recalled her first encounter with Lin Fansheng. He wasn’t very talkative, but his emotions were clearly reflected on his face.
As for Lin Ling… he was cold as ice—keep anyone at least three meters away.
What was it in Lu Shihuai’s mind that made him believe they were alone?
Could amnesia really alter someone’s personality?
Fu Mingxi didn’t buy that.
“—Or else, bring me proof that they are the same person.”
Lu Shihuai glanced down at the bracelet on his wrist and fell silent.
Lin Ling had wiped his traces clean.
Besides the bracelet and the earrings, there was nothing that could confirm his identity—and those two were useless unless activated.
Besides, countless people in the empire dressed like that.
Seeing Lu Shihuai say nothing, Fu Mingxi guessed he lacked evidence but also felt her own doubts wavering.
“I’m not against you and Lin Ling having a relationship,” Fu Mingxi tried to argue, “but if he’s not Lin Ling and you get close to him, then when the real Lin Ling returns, he’ll see you as a replacement… and no matter how much trust there was, he would kill you.”
“Huai, I’m just thinking about your happiness in the future!”
Lu Shihuai’s gaze shifted, and he finally spoke, “I know you care about me, but…”
Jingling——
The doorbell rang, cutting off his words.
Fu Mingxi stood and opened the door, revealing Lin Fansheng holding his wife.
Ignoring their closeness, she quickly took hold of Jiang Shuran’s bleeding arm, panicked. “Shuran, what happened?”
Jiang Shuran waved dismissively, “I ran into a knife-wielding robber, but Ah Sheng and I handled it smoothly.”
Fu Mingxi immediately steadied her and said, “Don’t move, I’ll get you some medicine.”
Being a Beta, Jiang Shuran’s healing wasn’t as fast as an Alpha’s. The wound was still bleeding heavily.
Once Jiang Shuran was safely seated, Lin Fansheng noticed bl00d on himself, frowned, and rushed to the bathroom.
He moved so quickly that he evaded Lu Shihuai’s attempt to hold his hand.
Lu Shihuai was silent for a moment, then brushed his fingers through his hair, revealing a dark blue earring partially hidden.
Suddenly, a fresh set of clothes appeared in his hand.
In the bathroom, Lin Fansheng stripped off his bloodied clothes and noticed a shadow behind the glass door.
The glass was frosted, designed to obscure vision, so he knew he couldn’t be seen, but still blocked his body and called out, “Lu Shihuai?”
“Yeah.” The voice was muffled through the glass but reached Lin Fansheng.
“What are you doing?”
“Giving you clothes.”
Lin Fansheng remembered he hadn’t brought any change of clothes.
He eyed the T-shirt thrown into the laundry basket, hesitated, but didn’t put it on.
No point—he and Lu Shihuai were both Alphas; it didn’t matter.
Lin Fansheng opened the door to find Lu Shihuai had thoughtfully prepared a bathrobe and an outfit.
He reached for the bathrobe, “Thanks.”
But his hand was met with resistance.
“Lu Shihuai?”
Lin Fansheng looked up and saw an unreadable expression in Lu Shihuai’s eyes.
Unsure what was wrong, Lin Fansheng waved his hand in front of his face, “What’s going on?”
The sudden movement snapped Lu Shihuai out of his daze.
He stepped back, eyes wide, ears flushed crimson beneath his hair.
His hands trembled, nearly dropping the clothes, but he caught them and hurriedly stuffed everything into Lin Fansheng’s arms.
Lowering his head, he turned and left.
Lin Fansheng watched the flustered retreat, confused, and muttered, “What just happened?”
Then he closed the bathroom door.
After shedding his last piece of clothing, Lin Fansheng turned on the shower, the sound drowning out his swirling thoughts.
…
“Lu Shihuai, come here, I need to talk to you.”
Fu Mingxi helped Jiang Shuran, who was pale and bleeding, yet her eyes remained sharp.
“Shu Ran,” Lu Shihuai acknowledged, sitting across from her.
Jiang Shuran was like an elder sister to them, always protective.
She looked serious. “There’s something off about that boy.”
Glancing toward the bathroom, her voice lowered, “Actually, that injury wasn’t caused by the robbers.”
Lu Shihuai had already guessed.
Though a Beta, Jiang Shuran’s combat skills surpassed ordinary Alphas, and a common thug with a knife wouldn’t have managed to harm her.
“Really? Then who did it?”
Fu Mingxi was stunned, unable to believe it.
Jiang Shuran rolled her eyes.
Lu Shihuai answered firmly, “Lin Fansheng did.”
“That’s right.” Jiang Shuran nodded approvingly.
“I got hurt trying to block a robber’s knife.”
She described the event, “We came here to stay under the radar. When I encountered the knife-wielding thug, I only wanted to take him down and leave quietly.”
“But Ah Sheng was faster than me.”
Jiang Shuran recalled, “I didn’t even see how he did it. The man was taken down and pinned before I could react.”
“I only had time to block the knife when Ah Sheng aimed it at the robber.”
They could have escaped once the robbers were subdued, but losing their lives was not an option.
They had more important matters and couldn’t be exposed to the Hillier Star government, so Jiang Shuran chose to take the hit for Ah Sheng.
“He showed no hesitation from the start. His eyes were as calm as if he were eating or drinking.”
In that chaos, Jiang Shuran noticed there was no fear or panic in his gaze—only a jaded indifference.
That wasn’t the look of a normal person—it was the expression of someone who’d faced death countless times.
Jiang Shuran whispered, “At that moment, I thought I saw someone familiar.”
“The same coldness, the same disregard for consequences in pursuit of the goal… Lu Shihuai, he taught you that.”
“You know who I’m referring to.”
She didn’t say the name aloud—few dared to.
Only Lu Shihuai and his close circle knew.
“So, Ah Sheng…”
Jiang Shuran’s eyes hinted at suspicion, “Could this be connected to him?”
She never believed they were alone.
If that person could teach Lu Shihuai, he could teach others.
If Lin Fansheng was taught by him, this relationship made sense.
Lu Shihuai was silent for a moment, then glanced at Fu Mingxi.
“Evidence.”
Fu Mingxi: “…”
