- Chapter 19 - The Star Knight Who Protects the Moon
Bei Yin didn’t share all those stale, outdated experiences.
She only gave a brief overview, omitting the part where Jiang An had once attempted to forcibly impose a lifelong mark on her.
Mainly because she was afraid the little leopard might erupt in anger, and she also felt that things from the past—things she no longer cared about—weren’t worth bringing up to upset anyone.
Yet, Ruanruan still sensed something and asked, “Did she do anything terrible to you?”
Her voice sounded light, but it carried a trace of suppressed, gloomy hostility.
Bei Yin answered indirectly, “If she had really done anything to me, would I still be sitting here letting you hold me?”
Ruanruan muttered under her breath, “She’s not a good person. A pervert.”
Bei Yin smiled faintly and continued laying the groundwork.
First, she repeated face-to-face what Ruanruan had heard about Jiang An planting people around her.
Then she sighed, “Over the years, we haven’t had much direct interaction. Who would’ve thought she’d pull something like this behind the scenes?”
Ruanruan didn’t respond, instead tightening her embrace around Bei Yin in a protective manner, silently conveying the reassurance of “Don’t be afraid, I’m here.”
Bei Yin deliberately let a hint of fear seep into her voice. “I’m not scared of her, just a little unsettled. After all, like you said, she’s a pervert.”
At first glance, it sounded like she was putting on a brave front, prompting the leopard to suddenly lift her head and look at her.
Her gaze was as reverent as if she were making a vow before a priest. “Trust me. I’ll protect you, sister.”
Feeling the timing was right, Bei Yin gradually steered toward the topic she had been setting up all along.
“I do trust you. But a pervert’s psychology is hard to predict. If you could use your pheromones to suppress her and give her a warning beating, I’d be really grateful.”
If Jiang An had been bold enough to openly admit in front of Bai Yi that they were alike, she would undoubtedly say even worse things to Ruanruan.
Things so venomous they’d spread through her body in mere words, effortlessly shattering Commander Ruan’s strong mental fortitude.
As for what exactly those words were, even if Bei Yin asked, she wouldn’t get an answer.
Ruanruan would only bury them deep in her heart, taking them out every night to chew over, doubt, and agonize over.
Over time, her already paranoid fear—that Bei Yin might grow afraid and leave—would intensify.
The best solution? Step one: proactively voice what Ruanruan was bound to do anyway, dismantling her fear that Bei Yin might discover her violent actions.
Those dark, phoenix-like eyes darted between Bei Yin and the floor, then back again—like a child who’d done something wrong and wasn’t sure whether to confess to a parent.
Bei Yin knew that all she needed to say now was, “What’s wrong? Tell me, sister. Don’t hide anything from me.”
And the other would stammer out, “Actually, I already…”
Her dark pupils carefully studied Bei Yin’s expression, not missing even the slightest flicker of fear.
Chief Bei’s acting was flawless. She feigned surprise, covering her mouth with her fingertips.
“Really? I was just about to ask you for a favor! You already took care of it for me? You’re such a good leopard, my Ruanruan. Thank you!”
As soon as the words left her lips, she saw the insecurity in those dark eyes fade away, replaced by a bright, relieved smile.
“But I only hit her a little. It wasn’t that rough.”
“Mhm, that’s more than enough.”
After chatting a bit more, Bei Yin seized the moment to move on to the most crucial step two—uprooting whatever poisonous words Jiang An had planted in Ruanruan’s mind.
“Oh, by the way, I overheard some guests saying you and Jiang An seem a bit alike.”
These words struck right at the sore spot, and the smiling face before her inevitably stiffened.
“What utter nonsense. In my eyes, you’re completely different. Jiang An is a psychologically twisted pervert who treats Omegas as playthings, but you would never do that.”
Bei Yin gently caressed her cheek with her right hand. “You respect me deeply, with such courtesy and manners—like a starry knight protecting the moon, shining with a unique brilliance.”
The Alpha’s hand instinctively covered Bei Yin’s, listening quietly.
“You’ve made the moon’s heart flutter. I never thought I could feel so strongly about wanting to get close to a star in just a few days.”
“So, please don’t let dark clouds shadow this star’s mood. Because the moon wants to see her shine brightly by her side, laughing and playing.”
Bei Yin cupped the back of the other’s head, gently drawing her closer until their foreheads touched. Her gaze was firm as it met the Alpha’s eyes, her voice softer than a midsummer night’s breeze.
“Don’t listen to the slanderous words of others. Always believe that you’re exceptional, with so many dazzling qualities that make you lovable.”
“If your thoughts waver because of others’ words, just remember what I say—’Others don’t matter. What matters most is what your sister thinks, and your sister believes you’re the best.'”
Ruan Fei remained silent the entire time, gazing devoutly at the moon she held in her heart. She engraved every word Bei Yin gave her, letter by letter, into her soul.
It was like a precious remedy, entering through her ears and gradually soothing the anxiety and panic in a corner of her heart.
Then, as those pathological emotions were uprooted, an overwhelming sense of contentment and joy spilled forth.
It formed a gentle stream, flowing from the engraved depths of her heart, slowly spreading pleasure to every limb and fiber of her being.
Every nerve was invigorated with delight, even the curled index finger resting on her shoulder now felt incredibly light.
The little leopard had occasionally let slip hints of possessive instinct before, but tonight, because of Jiang An’s words, she had become wary and restrained it completely.
Now, as the negativity dissipated, that instinct returned to her eyes.
Tilting her head, she gazed at Bei Yin with a soft smile before lifting her hands and kissing them repeatedly.
“That’s right, I’m nothing like Jiang An. Jiang An is a worthless rat living under a manhole cover, perversely spying on your life.”
“But I only did it because I simply adore your face—totally different from his twisted motives. Ruanruan belongs to you alone.”
Bei Yin raised an eyebrow. So, “only did it because I simply adore your face”—what exactly did this accidentally blurted confession mean?
She didn’t quite understand, nor did she ask, knowing she wouldn’t get a straight answer anyway.
Ruanruan would just evade with playful “hmms” and “hehes.”
Bei Yin decided to test the waters: “Though your cuteness is fun, I’d also love to see the little leopard bare her sharp claws for once.”
Ruanruan stiffened as if her tail had been stepped on, instantly sitting upright. “No way! I’m super soft, not fierce at all!”
“Just a tiny glimpse—give me one cold glare.”
Instead, Bei Yin was met with an overwhelmingly bright, adorable smile.
“Hehe~ I’m too cute to glare.”
Bei Yin sighed inwardly: There’s still work to do to fully erase those obsessive tendencies.
Ruanruan pressed Bei Yin’s hand against her cheek. “Will you make me shredded pork noodles tonight? I’ll help you chop the ingredients.”
“Oh? You know how to chop?”
“Nope, but you can teach me hand in hand.”
Bei Yin stood up, picked up the red coat spread on the floor, and gave it a shake.
Then, she climbed two steps and reached out her hand to the Alpha with a smile. “Alright, alright, let’s go. I’ll teach you at home now.”
The Alpha immediately raised her hand, intertwining their fingers with delight.
Bei Yin led Ruan Fei, step by step, from the shadowy depths where no light reached into the bright open space.
She couldn’t help but glance back—those dark eyes, brimming with joy and contentment, had reflected only her from their first meeting until now.
So beautiful and docile, utterly endearing.
The Alpha also stopped in her tracks, offering no resistance as her face was gently cupped.
Soon, near the corner of her lips, a small blue rose bloomed, exuding a delicate fragrance.
The pheromones, laced with deadly allure, rushed eagerly beneath her nose, barely restraining a possessive, almost pathological desire.
Bei Yin plucked the white rose from her own ear and tucked it behind the Alpha’s, her voice laced with mischief. “Two little flowers for you. Do they smell nice?”
Ruan Fei averted her darkened gaze, murmuring softly, “Scorpios really are wicked…”
