- Chapter 22 - Sweetheart~
At nearly ten in the evening, a rich aroma wafted from the kitchen.
Ruanruan sniffed the air and looked up to see Bei Yin turning around. “Take a break and come have some noodles first.”
The mouthwatering scent came from the stir-fried pork strips glazed in sauce.
Paired with shredded cucumber, carrots, and other garnishes tossed with white noodles, the dish boasted rich colors and an irresistible fragrance.
Yet there was only one bowl. After mixing it, Ruanruan tried to push it toward Bei Yin sitting across from her.
Bei Yin glanced at it with restraint. “I made this specially for you. I don’t eat high-calorie foods at night.”
“Ohh~ Then I’ll enjoy it without holding back. Thanks for your hard work, sis.”
Bei Yin observed that despite Commander Leopard’s fierce reputation with others, she displayed an endearing softness toward her, coupled with an often-overlooked aristocratic grace.
Her posture was impeccably straight when walking, and her table manners refined.
She ate quietly, barely making any sound.
It was remarkably appetite-stimulating.
Noticing Bei Yin’s gaze, Ruanruan swallowed her bite. “Sis, won’t you have some too?”
“Too high in calories. No.” Chief Bei refused firmly.
Instead, she rummaged through the fridge for a low-calorie cucumber.
Kicking off her slippers, she perched on the edge of her chair, folding her slender legs as she curled up on the seat, nibbling the bland cucumber without enthusiasm.
Ruanruan fetched a clean pair of chopsticks, twirling the noodles around them before mischievously offering them forward.
“Just one bite? It’s super delicious.”
Chief Bei maintained a cold expression. “No way. I absolutely won’t be tempted by you, little devil.”
Ruanruan rested her chin on her left hand while twirling the chopsticks before Bei Yin with her right. “Mouthwatering noodles~ You’ll regret it for ten years if you don’t try some.”
Chief Bei took an aggressive bite of cucumber, chewing forcefully. “Won’t. Work.”
After studying her for a moment, Ruanruan licked her sharp little fangs. “Hehe, what if I cry a little? Then will you take a bite?”
“Who said you never cry?”
“So tears would work, right?”
“Try it and see.”
“Then promise me first—if I produce tears, you’ll eat.”
Bei Yin nodded with amused interest, curious what mischief this little imp was plotting.
Then she watched as the little devil oddly reached for the noodles, seemingly reluctant to waste the food she’d prepared, before settling on tearing a tissue.
She split it into two thin strips, dipped one end in water, and stuck them to her cheekbones.
Then she tilted her head with a grin.
Completely baffled, Bei Yin asked, “What performance is this?”
“Tears~ Ruanruan’s original creation: tissue tears.”
“Pfft—”
Bei Yin nearly spat out her cucumber, hastily grabbing tissues to cover her mouth.
The little troublemaker’s antics made her choke, coughing violently between laughter and disbelief.
Ruanruan hurried over to pat her back anxiously. “You okay?”
Waving a hand, Bei Yin caught her breath after the coughing fit, then asked incredulously, “How… did you even come up with that? Tissue tears?”
“Huh? It was easy to think of. Couldn’t sis figure it out?”
Bei Yin mused that at twenty-eight, she truly couldn’t concoct such visually entertaining comedic theatrics.
Laughing, she plucked off one paper tear and waved it. “Alright, tears confirmed. I’ll take one bite.”
Grinning, Ruanruan fed her the twirled noodles while cupping her right hand beneath Bei Yin’s chin like a bone china saucer.
“Mmm… Not sure if it’s because a certain little rascal fed me, but it really is delicious.”
“Hehe.” Ruanruan hooked a stool over with her foot and sat beside Bei Yin, picking up the noodle bowl. “One bite isn’t enough to taste properly. Have another, sis.”
The noodles were practically at her lips, and Bei Yin felt it wouldn’t be appropriate to refuse.
“Good things come in pairs—how about another bite?”
Bei Yin achieved the “good things come in pairs” milestone.
“Do you think I’m cute, sis? If I am, take another bite.”
Bei Yin thought the little leopard was absolutely adorable.
Under the sweet talk, she absentmindedly took bite after bite until she finally felt full and pushed the bowl away.
“No more. No amount of flattery will work now.”
But Ruanruan held up the empty bowl. “But there’s nothing left—it’s all in your belly now.”
“…” Bei Yin pinched the slightly gaunt cheeks and tugged them sideways. “You little devil, you really got me.”
Ruanruan let her do as she pleased, squinting as she explained.
“It’s not about fattening you up to keep others from eyeing you. I love everything about you—your personality, your looks, even the mischievous parts. I’d still love you even if you became a 300-pound baby.”
If anyone else had said that last line, Bei Yin would have found it fake and exaggerated. But coming from the little leopard, it carried an undeniable sincerity.
“It’s just that… if something can easily make you happy, but you deny yourself just to conform to society’s beauty standards, isn’t that too cruel? And also—”
Bei Yin waited for her to continue, but suddenly, a hand gripped her shoulder—and then she was lifted into the air…
The newly strengthened Alpha effortlessly hoisted her Omega like a rabbit and placed her on her lap.
“You’re way too thin! I can lift you with one hand—no more of this warped beauty standard nonsense!”
Bei Yin, still startled, wrapped her arms around Ruanruan’s neck, unsure whether to be exasperated or embarrassed.
“I have actual weight—I’m not a sack of vegetables. Don’t just pick me up like that.”
Ruanruan patted her back apologetically. “Sorry, my bad. I’ll warn you next time.”
Then, in a tone that brooked no argument, she added, “From now on, eat properly. No more dieting.”
Bei Yin cleared her throat. “I have a small stomach.”
Ruanruan mimicked her tone. “Oh, sure, sure. I believe you. Definitely not the same person who just polished off an enormous bowl of noodles.”
“Ahem…”
Bei Yin noticed that Ruanruan loved kissing her hands—holding them, pressing her lips to each fingertip, the back of her palms, her wrists.
She also loved pressing Bei Yin’s palms against her cheeks.
When she was being clingy, her eyes would droop slightly, her face softening into an obedient smile, and even her usually commanding voice would turn tender.
“Promise me, sis? No more dieting. Eat what you want, make yourself happy.”
She was practically a loyal puppy.
Bei Yin realized, once again, that her resistance to her was dwindling by the day.
Others might not know, but she certainly couldn’t hold out.
“Fine, fine. I promise. From now on, I’ll make peace with my inner foodie, acknowledge my actual appetite, eat sensibly, and manage my figure through exercise.”
Ruanruan wrapped her arms around Bei Yin’s back, pressing their foreheads together. “Hehe~ That’s more like it. I’ll go running with you whenever I can—morning or night.”
After a pause, she added, “And no shortcuts with tech—it’s not safe.”
Bei Yin gave her a knowing look. “So… exercise-induced sweat, and your nice-smelling pheromones?”
“Don’t say it out loud!”
As she spoke, her dark, unreadable eyes drifted uncontrollably to Bei Yin’s lips.
Still wearing makeup, they were a glossy cherry red—plump and glistening like ripe fruit, utterly tantalizing.
Desire boiled over in an instant, shredding the self-control she prided herself on, rampaging wildly through her heart with nothing to restrain it.
Ruan Fei half-lidded her eyes, tilting her neck as she pressed her lips against Bei Yin’s.
In that instant, pheromones exceeding five percent concentration came pressing down with an icy, weighty presence.
Just that brief touch, without any further movement, already made Bei Yin’s mind buzz with static.
She quickly lowered her head, covering Ruan Fei’s lips with her right hand while pressing her forehead against the other’s shoulder.
Her gaze was slightly disordered as she gasped for breath, head bowed.
Everywhere—before her eyes, within her body, at the tip of her nose—was filled with the cold snow pheromones she adored. It felt like drinking a slightly chilled rum, making her head spin faintly.
“Sorry… the pheromones in your saliva are too concentrated and pure. I-I need a moment to adjust.”
Otherwise, even this level of concentration would leave her unable to regain composure.
If just this much was overwhelming, how could she possibly handle temporary marking later, when pheromones would be directly injected into her glands? Wouldn’t she completely lose her senses and spiral into madness on the spot?
The mere thought of herself with glowing red eyes, pinning Ruan Fei down for wild, frantic kisses made Bei Yin shudder in fear.
