- Chapter 5 - I Only Save People, Not Dogs
The next day, September 7th, 8:00 AM.
As Bei Yin stepped into the office, she overheard her team members enthusiastically discussing Fu Cong.
She placed her bag down and pulled out a chair: “What happened to that rotten cabbage?”
Including Lin Jiaojiao, all nine team members clapped excitedly as if celebrating the New Year.
“Bei, the bastard is almost dead!”
“Too bad he didn’t kick the bucket!”
Bei Yin grew more confused: “What’s going on?”
Lin Jiaojiao, holding a nutritional breakfast drink, sat down with a laugh.
“You didn’t come in yesterday since you were off, so you missed it. Fu Cong was beaten half to death by an Alpha in his own home.”
“Both physically and with pheromones, all his bones were broken. The worst was his gland—it was flipped open and bleeding from the pheromone shock.”
She grinned, showing her gums. “Apparently, if General Fu hadn’t rushed home and begged on his knees, it’s hard to say whether Fu Cong would’ve met his ancestors.”
From a purely medical standpoint, Bei Yin thought that Alpha was indeed brutal.
Whether Alpha or Omega, the skin on the gland is the most fragile and sensitive part of the human body.
Alphas are naturally repelled by each other. Once they sense hostility from another Alpha’s pheromones, the gland instinctively triggers a defense mechanism, releasing high concentrations of pheromones to resist.
If one Alpha is overpowered, they’ll retract their pheromones first, essentially admitting defeat.
For the inherently proud Alpha, this is a lifelong humiliation.
Thus, the victorious side rarely pursues further.
Some lose control of their anger, but at most, they suppress the gland until it turns purple.
Bei Yin had never seen a case where the gland was suppressed to the point of breaking the skin in all her years as a doctor.
From an absolutely subjective standpoint, Bei Yin thought the beating was well-deserved!!!
If she ever had the fortune of meeting that Alpha, she’d make a banner, hang a scroll, and give them ten hero cards for ridding the world of scum.
Her good mood started right then and there.
Her beautiful round eyes behind 800-degree lenses narrowed in contentment.
“Which district is this Alpha from?”
The higher-quality Alphas in this region are few and far between—half-dead rotten cabbage being one of them.
And none of them possess such overwhelmingly dominant pheromones.
It could only mean this was a top-tier Alpha from a higher district, above level 6.
Not just her, everyone thought the same.
“No idea. The higher-ups have sealed off all related information. Can’t find out.”
“Hey, I’ve got some news! A friend treating Fu Cong overheard the commander-in-chief asking General Fu why his son got beaten. General Fu cried and said he didn’t know, hahaha.”
Lin Jiaojiao’s knowing look: “Fu idiot stole that old Alpha’s Omega.”
Everyone nodded in agreement.
A popular science blogger once did a survey—80% of fights between Alphas are over Omegas.
At that moment, Fu Cong’s father, Fu Jian, appeared at the door.
His gaze swept the office before landing on Chairwoman Bei.
His urgent tone was full of arrogance: “Bei Yin, come with me now to treat my son’s gland!”
Bei Yin patted Lin Jiaojiao’s shoulder, signaling the team members to get back to work, and looked up: “No.”
“I order you, as the General of the Sixth Fleet, to come with me immediately!”
Bei Yin remained unmoved, leaning back in her chair.
With her legs crossed and hands clasped together, her arms resting on the armrests on either side, she looked over indifferently.
“I am the chief military medical consultant. If you want to assign me a specific title, my position is no lower than that of a general. What right do you have to command me?”
Before Fu Jian could speak, Bei Yin continued, “The Executive Director transferred me to Zone 6 to treat ten thousand soldiers, not to serve your son.”
Fu Jian’s face darkened. “You’re a doctor. Saving lives is your duty!”
Bei Yin chuckled. “I only save people, not dogs.”
Feeling the oppressive pheromones pressing down on her, Bei Yin remained calm. “General Fu, if you continue to behave rudely toward me, I have the right to invoke the Military Medical Protection Act and detain you for five days.”
Fu Jian, with a grimace, withdrew his pheromones. “I don’t trust anyone else. You must treat my son immediately and ensure he has no lasting effects. I won’t forget your kindness!”
Bei Yin smiled. “Fine. Beat him up, and I’ll treat him.”
Fu Cong, whose bones had just been set with an instrument, now lay weakly in the intensive care unit.
His gland was severely damaged, and other doctors were uncertain, suggesting he seek Bei Yin’s help.
The thought that Fu Cong might never produce pheromones again if not treated promptly made Fu Jian lose his composure.
“Bei Yin, don’t push your luck! If anything happens to my son’s gland, I will never let you off!”
Throughout it all, Bei Yin remained largely unperturbed.
She stood up calmly, straightened her wrinkled white coat, and walked gracefully over to Fu Jian.
“What your son did to me, the Commander-in-Chief might not care about. But if it affects her interests, do you think she’ll let you off?”
Nowadays, it’s not just human doctors who exist. There are specialized doctors for cyborgs, robots, and even extraterrestrial residents.
Bei Yin could treat all of them except robots.
Especially the “memory transfer” technique, which only she in Zone 6 could perform.
Apart from the top-tier resources in Zone 1, few doctors in other zones could master this “immortality” technology.
Commanders from various zones had long coveted her, trying every trick to lure her away.
Even someone from Zone 1 had shown interest.
The reason she still endured Fu Cong’s harassment was entirely to repay the Executive Director for bringing her from Zone 18 to Zone 6.
One was a valuable asset capable of continuously providing “immortal” soldiers, and the other was a useless waste who hadn’t even entered the military camp.
If things escalated, it was clear whose side the Commander-in-Chief would take.
Fu Jian, gradually regaining his composure, had no choice but to soften his tone. “Dr. Bei, my son is truly pitiful. Please…”
Bei Yin raised her chin. “Step aside, please.”
As she walked out of the office, Fu Jian grabbed her arm. “Dr. Bei, name your price!”
Bei Yin frowned, about to shake him off, when a voice came from behind. “Sister.”
Bei Yin freed her arm and looked up.
Standing in the corridor was a tall Alpha with long legs, her appearance more perfect than a holographic game’s NPC.
Her dark eyes flickered with a restrained sharpness, glaring unfavorably at Fu Jian.
Fu Jian’s face turned pale as paper, his extreme fear reflected in his trembling lips.
Unable to speak, he staggered back a couple of steps, turned, and fled.
The Alpha stepped forward.
Unlike other Alphas, who would hysterically question the Omega without asking for the reason why they let someone else grab their arm, she didn’t do that.
She wouldn’t even grab Bei Yin’s arm without her permission.
She just tugged on a corner of the white lab coat, lowered her eyes, and wiped the area inside and out with a tissue five times.
“Alright, it’s clean now.”
After she finished, Bei Yin asked, “What are you doing here?”
Ruanruan tilted her head, “I came to play.”
Bei Yin crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow, “You came to play in a heavily armed military base?”
“I missed my sister… so I climbed over the wall to come in.”
“Uh-huh, sure, I believe you.”
Ruanruan’s eyes were filled with sincerity, “Really.”
Bei Yin couldn’t help but laugh, responding half-heartedly, “Yeah, yeah, okay. If our Ruanruan says it’s true, then it’s true.”
“Hehe~”
The old Alpha was too tall, so the 165 cm Omega had to look up to meet the smiling dark eyes.
“So, did you beat up Fu Cong?”
