- Chapter 6 - From Now On, I'll Be Your Big Puppy
At first, this thought had only flashed through Bei Yin’s mind.
But just moments ago, when Fu Jian instinctively recoiled in fear upon seeing Ruanruan, she instantly knew—she’d found the perfect hero to hand out the “nice guy” card.
It also suddenly occurred to her that while she could spend all night digging up information on Ruanruan (though she found nothing), the reverse was equally true.
The Alpha’s smile vanished instantly, as if torn between admitting the truth and lying to Bei Yin.
She stared silently, her eyes betraying a hint of unease.
Bei Yin reassured her, “I won’t be afraid of you because of this. Just be honest.”
“…It was me.”
Bei Yin immediately brightened, raising her hand—before she could even gesture, the Alpha ducked her head forward, offering it for pats.
“You did so well! Thank you. I’ve wanted to beat him up for ages.”
She gave a few affectionate rubs, enjoying the softness, then couldn’t resist a few more.
The Alpha studied her—this wasn’t polite pretense. Bei Yin was genuinely delighted that Fu Cong had been half-beaten to death.
In a small voice, the Alpha asked, “Will you be mad that I interfered without asking?”
Bei Yin understood perfectly.
No matter how high she climbed, an Omega could never act entirely freely against an Alpha due to innate pheromone suppression.
Like beating up that rotten cabbage to vent her anger.
Just as her mother said, she needed an Alpha by her side—one who loved her, protected her, and handled what she couldn’t.
She’d been forging ahead alone with her mother all this time.
The path never felt too hard; she’d willingly faced every thorn for her mother’s sake.
But… having an Alpha she could reliably lean on occasionally? That might actually feel pretty nice.
So: “I’m not mad.”
“Was it too much?”
“Not avoiding the question, but you should answer that first.”
A single “hmph” said everything.
“I don’t think it was too much either.” Bei Yin met her gaze. “You don’t strike me as someone who cares about others’ opinions.”
“I only care about yours.” Ruanruan whined, “Because you’re the moon in the sky, a galaxy more beautiful than Andromeda, while I’m just a cockroach on the ground—unworthy of you.”
Bei Yin: “…That description unsettles me.”
Just then, a group of Alpha officers approached.
Their eyes first widened in surprise—Chief Bei Yin, who notoriously treated all Alphas equally, actually allowing one near her?
Then their expressions turned knowing, clearly thinking, “This Omega actually managed to emotionally manipulate that Alpha… and succeeded?”
Bei Yin awkwardly covered her face and turned away.
Once they passed, she sighed, “Stop gaslighting yourself.”
“Wuu…”
“In the two days I’ve known you, you’ve been nothing but wonderful in my eyes.”
Hearing this, the Alpha grinned, revealing two adorably sharp little fangs.
Bei Yin imagined if she had a tail, it’d be wagging wildly right now.
“So… can I meddle in your affairs sometimes?”
Bei Yin teased, “Like killing every Alpha who approaches or desires me?”
“Wuu… maybe just chasing them away?”
Suddenly mischievous, Bei Yin asked, “If I said no, would you cry?”
Ruanruan’s eyes drooped: “I wouldn’t cry… but I’d be really sad.”
“Then let’s not have our Ruanruan be sad.”
As she finished speaking, the Alpha bent down, tilting her head happily to rest it lightly against Bei Yin’s crown.
“From now on, I’ll be your big puppy…”
“Pfft—don’t say such embarrassing things with that soft, sweet face of yours.” It’s enough to make an Omega lose their composure.
“Would it be better if I were a cat?”
“Do you act like a kitten?”
The Alpha tilted her head in thought, then smiled sweetly. “Then I’ll be your little leopard. Just wave at me, and I’ll come running with my tail wagging—super fast.”
Bei Yin covered her mouth and turned away. Mmm… she’s just so soft around me…
……
Bei Yin had to head to the research institute for work, and the little leopard followed closely by her side.
Fully armed patrol officers merely gave them odd looks but didn’t stop or question the self-proclaimed “illegal intruder.”
Bei Yin understood—Commander Shen Yasi must have already given orders.
When they reached the institute’s entrance, Bei Yin hesitated.
Inside was the most crucial scientific hub in District 6. Even generals weren’t allowed to enter freely—only researchers.
Ruan Fei tapped the metal table beside her twice with a curled finger.
With a few creaking sounds, a stool extended from beneath the table.
“I’ll wait here for you.”
“I won’t be out until eleven. Why don’t you go somewhere else for a while?”
“It’s fine.” Ruanruan propped her chin in her hands. “I can wait however long it takes.”
Worried she’d get bored, Bei Yin pulled a portable clip-on gaming device from her lab coat pocket and fastened it to her ear.
Then she ruffled the impossibly well-behaved little leopard’s hair. “I was going to give you a banner or an award, but that felt too flashy. So instead, I’ll grant you one wish.”
Her dark eyes, unlike ordinary irises that held a glimmer of light, seemed to gather an impenetrable black mist—always shadowed.
No matter how soft or sweet her smile, it never truly conveyed joy.
Only the upturned corners of her lips and the glimpse of sharp fangs revealed that the Alpha was so happy she might as well have grown a tail to wag.
After a long, serious deliberation, she finally agonized, “I want to eat a meal you cook—not nutrient paste, real food. But I also really want cuddles. It’s so hard to choose!”
Bei Yin: “Uh… huh?”
Watching her struggle as if it were life or death, she’d expected something outrageous.
Turns out, it was just this?
Ruan Fei glanced at her. “What naughty things are you thinking about, sis?”
“Ahem… nothing.” Bei Yin said. “Consider it a buy-one-get-one deal. I’ll grant both.”
“Ehehe~ Are the cuddles permanent?”
Bei Yin smoothed down the hair she’d tousled. “Permanent. I have to get to work now. Play your game.”
Ruanruan waved. “Mhm, bye-bye~”
……
Commander’s Office.
Shen Yasi stared at the surveillance screen.
The moment the Omega turned away, the Alpha’s docile demeanor vanished.
That expression wasn’t just a simple desire for affection—it was bordering on a frenzied urge to claim.
Fu Jian, standing below her, couldn’t help but ask, “Which district did that Alpha come from?”
Shen Yasi shut off the feed. “Who she is doesn’t concern you. Just don’t provoke her—or even I won’t be able to save you.”
Fu Jian’s eyes darkened.
Among the thirty districts, District 6 was already prestigious. For Shen Yasi to say such a thing, she must be from District 3 or higher.
And the higher the number, the wider the gap in resources, power, wealth, and status between districts.
Especially in the Golden City of District 1, where alien leaders reside, even the most ordinary residents are retired generals from other districts.
A saying has been circulating for years: “Better to be a fleet admiral in District 3 or above than a mere commander in any other district.”
He couldn’t help but calculate in his mind.
Starting from District 3, residents received monthly resource subsidies for free—ten times better than what a District 6 general got.
If he could latch onto that Alpha, just a single word of recommendation from her, and he could relocate with his son to a higher district…
Fu Jian’s thoughts were written all over his face.
Shen Yasi maintained a smiling facade, but inwardly, she sneered—a damned, ungrateful mongrel.
“By the way, how’s Congcong doing?”
Fu Jian’s expression twisted with worry again. “The other injuries will heal in a month, but the real problem is the gland. Could you please ask Bei Yin to treat him?”
Shen Yasi crossed her legs on the small table and sighed. “You know how it is—commanders from other districts are all eyeing her. It’s hard for me to push too much.”
After a pause, she added, “Still, I do think Bei Yin has been acting out of line lately. She’s still working under me, yet she flaunts her status. She could use some discipline.”
Fu Jian’s face darkened with menace. “If she didn’t have that Alpha around, I’d—”
Shen Yasi lifted her eyelids.
“Alphas have plenty of playthings. Someone of her caliber? She’s just one among many.”
“Probably just a passing amusement. After all, someone of that pedigree would only settle for a highborn noble Omega. Bei Yin? She’s not even in the running.”
She tapped her chin thoughtfully. “I’ve been wondering—maybe Congcong offended her while traveling in another district with a temporary pass?”
Fu Jian lowered his head in contemplation.
Shen Yasi studied his expression before continuing, “So, she came to District 6 to beat up Congcong, stumbled upon Bei Yin, and decided to make her another plaything.”
“That’s what I thought too, but with the Alpha always around Bei Yin…” Fu Jian hesitated.
Shen Yasi chuckled darkly. “A plaything she’s known for barely two days—you think she’d kill you over it? Oh, and—”
She stood up. “I don’t feel like attending the Executive Chief’s birthday banquet. I’ll be traveling for a few days. Consider yourself officially appointed as Acting Chief Commander, with all the authority I possess.”
Fu Jian’s face lit up with delight. “Thank you, Chief! I’ll serve you with my life!”
Shen Yasi patted his shoulder twice, her smile laced with frost. “Do your best…”
