Cohabitation With The Maniacally Gorgeous CEO - Chapter 17
Chapter 17
It was normal for An Yiqing to refuse a part-time job since she had her regular work and also needed to film videos.
What Xu Lingyin hadn’t anticipated was the reason for the refusal.
Her mother wouldn’t allow it?
Anyone who didn’t know would think An Yiqing was a minor.
A high school teacher, and she had the audacity to bring up her mother to refuse?
It was truly unexpected.
Xu Lingyin stared at the woman with her back to her: “Are you being discriminatory against professions?”
“I don’t mean that,” An Yiqing explained. “In any case, I can’t help with this.”
With that, she went back to her room.
…
A night passed, and Xu Lingyin was still preoccupied with it.
On Monday, Yu Sirou came over to retrieve some things, and while they were eating together, Xu Lingyin stared at her childhood friend and asked, “Yu Sirou, when someone uses their family not allowing it to refuse you, what does that indicate?”
“It means they genuinely don’t want to,” Yu Sirou replied, then added a bit of gossip, “It wouldn’t be the person you mentioned last time, would it? Didn’t you say she was pursuing you? How did it turn into her refusing you?”
Xu Lingyin glanced at her: “Don’t connect everything to that sort of thing.”
Yu Sirou smiled and apologized.
“It’s An Yiqing.”
As soon as the name was spoken, Yu Sirou chuckled: “I knew there was something going on between you two.”
A thoughtful look crossed Xu Lingyin’s eyes. She put down her cutlery and leaned back in her chair: “Now that Hu Bingjie’s grounding is over, she’ll definitely cause trouble for An Yiqing. I was thinking of having her come to the company after school; Hu Bingjie wouldn’t dare act recklessly there.”
“Hu Bingjie is no match,” Yu Sirou turned to look at her. “My cousin said Miss An has some martial arts skills; she can protect herself. If you’re really worried, just assign someone to follow her.”
Xu Lingyin’s eyelashes fluttered. She immediately said, “How could I be worried about her? It’s just that the trouble started because of me, and I don’t want to owe anyone a favor.”
Yu Sirou smiled: “But Miss An refused you. Based on what you said, she even brought up her family, clearly indicating she doesn’t want to come.”
Xu Lingyin frowned.
She had previously volunteered to bring dinner, but now, just a few days later, she resolutely refused.
Didn’t she offer enough money?
Xu Lingyin took out her phone and opened An Yiqing’s WeChat.
She sent her a message.
You: Regarding the part-time job, please reconsider. The salary is negotiable. I’ll wait for you in my office at 7:30 PM tonight
…
When An Yiqing saw this message, her afternoon class was over, and it was nearly time to leave work.
Sitting in her office, she read the message over and over. Her fingers hovered over the keyboard, ready to type, but she couldn’t think of a response.
The reason for refusal had been used up last night; what else could she say today?
An Yiqing had never been good at refusing.
After hesitating for a few minutes, An Yiqing received a message from Ye Qiange.
She sent an address, which was the airport.
Qian: A-Qing, I’m back early hahaha
Qian: Hurry and come to the airport to pick me up
An Yiqing packed her things and walked towards the parking lot.
She got into the car and first sent a message to Xu Lingyin.
Qing: Apologies, Miss Xu, my stance is the same as yesterday. I have plans tonight and won’t have time to prepare dinner
After sending the message, An Yiqing set off to pick up Ye Qiange.
Since it was Monday, not many people were traveling, and the airport wasn’t too crowded.
An Yiqing entered the airport and spotted Ye Qiange immediately.
She was pulling a pink suitcase and playing a game.
It took several calls before she heard her.
“A-Qing, I missed you so much.” This woman loved to say cheesy things. “Quick, tell me, did you miss me?”
An Yiqing lifted her suitcase and put it in the trunk, smiling faintly: “You only left less than half a month ago.”
Ye Qiange ignored her coldness. She got into the car, staring closely at An Yiqing’s face, scrutinizing every detail.
A moment later, she nodded in satisfaction: “Hmm, well-nourished and fair-skinned. It seems your new place is nice. My cousin shouldn’t go there often, right?”
An Yiqing debated whether to tell her the truth, but was afraid of her endless questions, which gave her a headache.
Only under Ye Qiange’s persistent questioning did she finally make up her mind and shake her head: “She rarely comes.”
“I see you’ve added three new dishes to your videos recently. Who are you making them for?” Ye Qiange opened the app, pointing to the dishes on the cover to show her.
An Yiqing glanced at them, a flash of an unusual look in her eyes, and she tightened her grip on the steering wheel: “Actually, I have a roommate, so I made them for her on the side.”
“A girl? Did she drive those other people away? She has so many demands. What does she do? Is she pretty?”
A string of questions popped out. An Yiqing looked straight ahead and answered: “Yes, she’s a girl. I just cook the food, that’s all.”
Ye Qiange was about to say more, but An Yiqing quickly asked: “Let’s go grocery shopping. I’ll cook at your place tonight. What do you want to eat?”
Hearing about food, Ye Qiange finally stopped pressing about the roommate.
…
Arriving at Ye Qiange’s place, An Yiqing was busy cooking, not stopping for over an hour.
They ate and chatted, and by the time they finished, it was 8:30 PM.
Ye Qiange went to take a shower. An Yiqing sat on the sofa, finally having time to check her phone.
Holding the phone, her heart was faintly unsettled.
With Xu Lingyin’s temper, she wondered if she would be angry after being refused again.
As the screen lit up, her breathing hitched, then returned to normal.
Nothing was there.
Xu Lingyin hadn’t replied at all.
An Yiqing opened the chat box, looking at the last message she sent.
They had agreed on a time; it was impossible that she hadn’t checked her phone, right?
Was she truly angry?
An Yiqing held her phone, walked onto the balcony, and considered calling Xu Lingyin.
But she was afraid the noise would disturb Ye Qiange.
Returning to the home screen, An Yiqing leaned against the window, her gaze fixed on her phone, unfocused.
Footsteps approached. Ye Qiange saw her standing there and smiled: “What are you looking at? You’re so engrossed.”
“Nothing.” Tucking her phone into her pocket, An Yiqing walked over and sat beside her.
Ye Qiange had accumulated months of things to say and wanted to get it all out at once tonight.
She wouldn’t even stop to blow-dry her hair.
She even urged An Yiqing to stay overnight.
“I should go back,” An Yiqing smiled faintly.
Ye Qiange grabbed her, pouting: “You always used to stay here whenever you came back. Do you have a new sweetheart outside?”
Thinking of something, a playful look appeared in her eyes: “It wouldn’t be your roommate, would it?”
An Yiqing offered a triple denial: “No, I don’t, stop talking nonsense.”
“Stay here or admit someone is waiting for you; pick one,” Ye Qiange snickered. “Otherwise, I can’t think of any reason why you absolutely must go back.”
“That’s really not the case,” An Yiqing explained.
This explanation was weak and, of course, couldn’t convince Ye Qiange.
“I get it. My place isn’t as good as my cousin’s; the bed isn’t as soft and comfortable to sleep in. I understand. You can go.” She walked to the door, opened it, and made a shooing gesture.
An Yiqing didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
She knew she couldn’t say too much in front of Ye Qiange. She could link any single event back to Xu Lingyin.
Helplessly walking up to her, she reached out to close the door and pulled her back. An Yiqing smiled: “It was my fault. Stop teasing me. I…”
Before she could finish her sentence, her phone rang.
An Yiqing stopped speaking and took out her phone.
Caller ID: Miss Xu.
An Yiqing paused for a second and answered the call.
“An Yiqing, where are you? I’ll come pick you up.”
She and Ye Qiange were standing close, and both heard the voice from the phone.
Ye Qiange looked as if her suspicions were confirmed, both annoyed and amused: “An Yiqing, An Yiqing, she’s already checking up on you, and you’re still lying to me, right?”
