Cohabitation With The Maniacally Gorgeous CEO - Chapter 23
Chapter 23
Xu Lingyin was at her villa in Zeyang Garden.
The person she was waiting for wasn’t answering calls or replying to messages.
It had been a week since she had returned.
It was as if she had vanished into thin air.
Xu Lingyin could only wait.
Some things needed to be made clear as soon as possible and couldn’t be allowed to develop further.
She took her phone and leaned on the sofa, staring out the window.
The courtyard outside the window was Chinese-style; while it was originally a beautiful style, here it felt exceptionally dull.
Xu Lingyin felt particularly suppressed.
Despite living here for a continuous week, she still hadn’t become accustomed to it.
The game had become her lifeline.
Three minutes after sending the invitation, An Yiqing hadn’t replied to her message.
Was she busy?
Or was she angry because of those words?
Xu Lingyin’s eyelashes drooped, casting a small shadow.
The look in her eyes became shadowed, as if she could erupt at any moment.
Regardless of whether An Yiqing was angry, those words had to be said.
She didn’t want An Yiqing to know about this polluted home.
When no notification sound came, Xu Lingyin unlocked her phone again and opened WeChat.
Dong—a message arrived right then.
Her heart skipped a beat, and she quickly checked.
Yu Sirou: Has Miss An not arrived yet?
Letting out a breath, Xu Lingyin replied truthfully.
Yu Sirou: Hurry her up. My cousin’s time is precious.
Xu Lingyin blinked, opened An Yiqing’s chat box.
As the keyboard slid out, a message popped up on the screen.
I’ll use my own account
Seeing the message from An Yiqing, Xu Lingyin’s tense nerves completely relaxed.
She kicked off her slippers, jumped onto the sofa, grabbed a plush toy, and lay down in the softness.
Pushing the hair off her face, a smile played on her lips. She raised her phone and read the message again.
Her own account?
If she remembered correctly, An Yiqing’s account wouldn’t work.
Isn’t your rank not high enough yet?
Her finger hovered over the send button for a moment. Xu Lingyin then changed her mind, deleted those words, switched to a slightly lower-ranked account, and logged into the game.
She teamed up with Yu Sirou’s account and asked her to invite An Yiqing again.
A few minutes later, An Yiqing joined the room.
After a week of not seeing her, An Yiqing’s voice wasn’t as urgent as it had been on the phone; it was still indifferent.
As calm as ever.
For some inexplicable reason, Xu Lingyin’s agitated heart felt slightly calmer.
She clicked on the microphone, just about to speak, when an unfamiliar voice came through the phone:
“I didn’t expect you two to be so close already, playing games behind my back.”
As soon as the words fell, the next sentence rang out: “Cousin, who is this ‘Liushui Lingling’ [Flowing Water Lingling]? My voice is a bit loud, so please don’t mind, okay?”
Xu Lingyin muted her mic and typed instead.
Liushui Lingling: I don’t mind
“Thank you, thank you.” Ye Shan’ge rattled off. “A-Qing, carry me. Miss Med-Immortal, please protect our DPS…”
After entering the game, An Yiqing and Ye Shan’ge stuck together.
Like conjoined twins.
Xu Lingyin’s heart, which had just calmed down, became extremely foul again, and she furiously attacked the minor monsters.
The speed at which her weapon swung was incredibly fast.
At that moment, the villa door silently opened, and the low sound of rolling luggage wheels was heard.
Xu Lingyin killed a minor monster, and her peripheral vision caught sight of someone standing in front of her.
She turned off the team voice, looked up, and her brow furrowed more deeply.
“Aunt,” she greeted quietly.
Xu Ruyun put down her suitcase and sat beside her, reaching out to tidy Xu Lingyin’s messy hair.
“A-Yin, come back home.”
Xu Lingyin scanned the living room.
Cold, empty, suffocating.
It was a cage, an abyss.
Who would want to live in a place like this?
A self-mocking smile tugged at her lips, and Xu Lingyin said, “Is Aunt hoping for a repeat of that incident?”
Xu Ruyun’s breathing hitched, and she explained: “Your father has realized his mistake and has been punished. Five years of loneliness is enough for him.”
Enough?
If it were enough, would he have turned her carefully arranged home into ruins?
If it were enough, would he have arranged for Hu Bingjie to harass her time and again?
If it were enough, would he deliberately approach An Yiqing?
Looking deeply at her aunt, Xu Lingyin changed the subject: “You just returned from a business trip; you must be tired from the journey. You should go rest. I need to play my game.”
Xu Ruyun remained seated.
Unable to control others, Xu Lingyin ignored her and buried herself in her game.
The Med-Immortal was covered in bl00d, lying in a pile of corpses, waiting for resurrection.
Finding the earpiece on the black-and-white screen, she turned it on.
“A-Qing, what’s wrong with you today? Did my cousin make you rusty? Wuwuwu Cousin, give me back my Master A-Qing.”
The instant she finished speaking, Xu Lingyin resurrected.
Opening the team panel, Xu Lingyin saw An Yiqing’s combat score.
0-10-2.
She also wanted to ask, what was wrong with An Yiqing today?
Seeing her stunned, Xu Ruyun spoke opportunely: “I won’t disturb your game; just talk to me. We haven’t seen you for so long, and your father and I miss you very much.”
Xu Lingyin was noncommittal, manipulating the Med-Immortal to rush to the team’s location.
“A-Yin, I heard you recently made a new friend. Is it one of these people playing the game with you?”
Xu Lingyin didn’t speak, focusing intently on the screen.
Not long after walking out, An Yiqing died again.
Ye Shan’ge: “A-Qing, is Tingyu operating it, by chance?”
“No, I’m just a bit out of sorts today. I apologize,” An Yiqing explained.
Ye Shan’ge asked her why she was distracted.
Xu Lingyin pricked up her ears, turning the volume to maximum.
She waited for a while but didn’t hear An Yiqing’s voice.
Xu Lingyin stabbed a minor monster, picked up a green leaf, and quickly flew over.
All the sounds reached Xu Ruyun’s ears. Observing Xu Lingyin’s mood, she smiled: “A-Yin, your father and I are relieved that you are no longer alone.”
An Yiqing’s words were hidden behind her voice.
Xu Lingyin was distracted and didn’t quite catch what was said.
She wondered if the other party was explaining herself.
The faster she tapped the screen, the quicker Xu Lingyin joined the team fight. She didn’t contribute at all, and everyone around her died.
The Med-Immortal also fell in a pool of bl00d.
Team wipe.
Ye Shan’ge’s voice started bombing again, mixed with Xu Ruyun’s rambling.
It was an auditory assault.
Her hands fell onto the sofa, and Xu Lingyin’s face was clouded with gloom.
Her expression was dark and menacing.
“Aunt, if you are really that idle, you can help me ask my father to come home. I have something to discuss with him.”
“He’s been busy lately and doesn’t have time to return.”
Xu Lingyin sneered: “Does hiding and avoiding solve the problem?”
“A-Yin, you have too much prejudice against him,” Xu Ruyun shook her head.
“Aunt, what do you think he was trying to achieve by having Hu Bingjie seek out my friend? To put pressure on her? To recruit her? To have her work for him, like Hu Bingjie, and then try to persuade me?”
Xu Lingyin’s speech quickened, and by the end, her gaze was icy cold.
Xu Ruyun was stunned: “Why would you think that of him?”
“He has done all of these things.”
Except for Yu Sirou, who among the people around her hadn’t tried to persuade her on behalf of Xu Zhiyuan?
Yu Sirou found her a roommate for the sake of her health. Considering these potential consequences, Xu Lingyin didn’t want any of them.
Unexpectedly, An Yiqing was so much to her liking that she desperately wanted to keep her.
She was unwilling to repeat the past.
Having been through various awful things, she asked An Yiqing to follow her after work, to deny Xu Zhiyuan the opportunity to recruit her.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned.
An Yiqing refused her.
Xu Lingyin threw down her cushion, picked up her phone, and walked further away.
She took a deep breath of fresh air.
She could finally hear her teammates’ voices clearly.
“A-Qing, did something happen to you again? Hurry and tell me; I’ll give you advice,” Ye Shan’ge asked.
After a moment of silence, An Yiqing said faintly: “Hurry and fly to my hometown to rescue me. I’m trapped here and can’t get out.”
Ye Shan’ge let out a gasp that made Xu Lingyin’s head feel empty.
When she regained her senses, Xu Lingyin returned to the living room, glaring at her aunt: “Where exactly is Xu Zhiyuan? Is he in Yunling Town?”
“Yunling Town?” Xu Ruyun repeated, bewildered.
Xu Lingyin gritted her teeth: “Tell Xu Zhiyuan for me, if he goes near An Yiqing again, I will never forgive him.”
“A-Yin!” Xu Ruyun stood up. “All the women do it; why can’t you?”
“I can’t,” Xu Lingyin spat out two words, grabbed her keys, disregarded her aunt’s calls, headed straight to the parking lot, and drove towards Yunling Town.
