Reincarnated as Murong Ziying:
It’s been a month since I arrived in this ancient world, and being the smart person that I am, of course, I’ve done my research!
First of all, this girl, Murong Ziying, has been married four times. But here’s the creepy part—every single one of her husbands died right before the wedding. Haha… Yeah, people call her a “husband killer.” But come on, how can they be so sure? Something fishy is definitely going on. Someone must be behind this. No way that it can be just bad luck.
Second, because all her husbands kept dying, she became so distraught that she tried to end her own life.
And third… that’s how I ended up here! And now? I’m just going to pretend I lost my memory. Haha! I, Yang Ziying, am truly a genius.
The sky was bright and clear, with wisps of clouds drifting lazily across the horizon. A gentle spring breeze swayed the willow trees by the lake, sending soft catkins dancing through the air. Warm sunlight bathed Liuyun Pavilion in a golden glow.
Inside Xingke Pavilion, Ziying stared blankly at her reflection in the mirror.
Oh. My. God.
Is this even real?!
The girl in the mirror was a breathtaking beauty—eyebrows like crescent moons, eyes like twinkling stars, delicate features as if carved from jade, and lips the color of cherry blossoms. Her porcelain skin was softer than a newborn’s, flawless like the finest silk. And that figure! Even world-class supermodels would be jealous. Well… except for her slightly lacking height. But dressed in a simple white gown, she exuded an ethereal elegance, like a fairy untouched by mortal dust.
Forget Xi Shi; I might just be the most beautiful woman in history!
Just as Ziying was admiring herself in the mirror, a voice interrupted her thoughts.
“Miss, the Master has summoned you to the study.”
Ziying set down the mirror and turned to Ling’er. “Father? What for?”
“This servant is not sure,” Ling’er replied.
“Fine, take me there.” Ziying stood up and followed her maid.
This mansion was huge—elegant roofs interlaced with winding corridors, picturesque bridges over flowing water, and fragrant blossoms filling the air with their sweet scent. As she walked, Ziying felt an eerie sensation, as if someone’s gaze was fixed on her.
She turned toward the plum grove and, sure enough, spotted a scholarly-looking young man peeking at her from behind the trees. His eyes were filled with deep emotion, almost… longing?
Who is he? And why is he looking at me like that?
Pushing the thought aside, she continued toward the study.
Upon entering, she gently pushed the door open and asked, “Father, did you need to see me?”
Murong Xi turned around slowly and said, “Ziying, tomorrow is your wedding day. Go and prepare yourself.”
“What?! A wedding?! No way!”
Ziying immediately protested, her face filled with shock and resistance.
Images of greedy, lecherous old men and arrogant, brutish suitors flashed through her mind, making her stomach churn. Ugh! Disgusting!
She was only 17! How could she be at marriageable age? Just because the original Murong Ziying had been engaged multiple times didn’t mean she wanted to marry someone she didn’t like.
Besides, if she really was cursed to bring misfortune to her husbands, why would she want to be responsible for another man’s death? No way. Not happening. Modern-me and ancient-me both refuse to be married off so soon!
“Ziying, listen to me,” Murong Xi said patiently. “If you marry Situ Ma, you will live a good life. He is famous for treating his wives well—”
“Except all his wives are dead!” Ziying cut in, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
“That was just fate,” Murong Xi insisted. “This marriage is already agreed upon. Marry him, and you will have a stable and happy future.”
“I don’t care!” Ziying snapped.
“Ziying, I have already given my word,” her father said, his voice turning firm.
“So my entire life has to be sacrificed just because of your promise? I refuse!”
Ziying’s face was flushed with anger.
There’s no way I’m going through with this!
