Confession to You in Early Summer (GL) - Chapter 11
At this time, the dessert shop was still crowded. Yan Wei asked Zhou Xiaoxiao and Zhang Yutong what they wanted to eat and told them to go find seats first, then went to the counter with Jiang Youyi to order.
Yan Wei ordered a signature taro ball dessert for Jiang Youyi, specifically asking for ice and small glutinous rice balls.
“Anything else?” Yan Wei turned her head and smiled at Jiang Youyi. “Their double-skin milk is also good.”
Their relationship had been strained for half a month. Although Jiang Youyi was still awkward, at least she wasn’t putting on a grumpy face anymore, and Yan Wei’s mood was excellent.
Compared to Yan Wei’s ease and joy, Jiang Youyi’s face was full of complexity. “Are you trying to fatten me up?”
“I didn’t say that,” Yan Wei smiled with narrowed eyes and ordered a red bean double-skin milk for herself.
Zhou Xiaoxiao and Zhang Yutong found an empty table near the French windows. While waiting for their food, Zhou Xiaoxiao scrolled through her messages for a while. Zhang Yutong then gently nudged Zhou Xiaoxiao’s shoulder. “Xiaoxiao, look, isn’t that Hu Hao from Third High?”
“Huh? Who?” Zhou Xiaoxiao looked in the direction Zhang Yutong pointed, not reacting for a moment. “Who is Hu Hao?”
“He’s that notorious troublemaker from Third High.” Zhang Yutong was a little scared, shrinking her neck and pulling up a photo from her phone’s chat history to show Zhou Xiaoxiao. “Last month, the class group chat said that students from Third High had a gang fight, almost leading to death. Someone even posted photos of the students involved. Don’t you remember?”
Zhou Xiaoxiao looked at the photo and finally remembered who Zhang Yutong was talking about.
She usually didn’t pay much attention to the class group chat, but the last gang fight incident was quite big, and plus the troublemaker student had a very recognizable appearance, so Zhou Xiaoxiao also had some impression.
“Bald head? The one in the leather vest?” Zhou Xiaoxiao looked through the French windows at the delinquent youth not far away, who had his arms resting on the railing while smoking. She clicked her tongue. “I heard that last time he fought because his girlfriend cheated on him. He brought a group of people to get revenge, but the other guy’s family had connections, so he ended up getting beaten up instead. He also got a school disciplinary action for fighting and early romance. Pretty miserable.”
Yan Wei and Jiang Youyi came over carrying their orders, just in time to hear their quiet murmurs. Unexpectedly, Jiang Youyi, who usually didn’t like to talk, suddenly interjected, “Miserable? They broke up with him months ago. He lied and said he wasn’t in school anymore, then the girl found out he was underage and dumped him. He was so angry that he kept harassing her and even went to block her, unexpectedly kicking a steel plate. He deserved to be beaten up!”
Although Zhou Xiaoxiao was surprised that there was a reversal behind this incident, she was even more surprised that Jiang Youyi actually deigned to speak, and in such a long sentence! It was quite rare!
Zhang Yutong took her taro ball dessert from Yan Wei and thanked her. After hearing Jiang Youyi’s words, she noticed another point. “Jiang Youyi, do you know Hu Hao?”
“Huh? Why?” Jiang Youyi sat in the window seat, put down her things, and pushed Yan Wei’s double-skin milk back to her.
Zhang Yutong glanced at Yan Wei again and shook her head. “Nothing, just asking.” She had originally wanted to say that it was better to have less contact with such useless people, but she wasn’t familiar with Jiang Youyi, and saying that might offend Yan Wei, so she gave up and didn’t interfere.
“Oh,” Jiang Youyi replied with a meaningless word, took a purple sweet potato taro ball with a small spoon and put it in her mouth. It was soft and glutinous, cool, very sweet, and indeed delicious, fitting her taste.
“Do you like it?”
Jiang Youyi heard Yan Wei ask her. She bit her spoon, pouted, swallowed the small mouthful of taro ball in her mouth, and then replied coldly, “It’s alright.”
That meant she liked it.
Yan Wei automatically revised the true degree adverb of this sentence in her mind based on Jiang Youyi’s attitude and couldn’t help but smile with narrowed eyes, thinking: How can someone be so cute?
Zhou Xiaoxiao ordered the same new product as Jiang Youyi, but without the extra toppings that Yan Wei had biasedly added. She took a bite of the signature dessert recommended by the goddess and immediately exclaimed like a foodie, “Wow! This is so delicious!”
“I think so too,” Zhang Yutong agreed.
Jiang Youyi looked away, her spoon scooping up a small glutinous rice ball. When she put it in her mouth, the corner of her lips couldn’t help but subtly curve upwards.
Yan Wei sat side by side with Jiang Youyi, a small spoonful of double-skin milk entering her mouth. It was indeed the same taste as before.
“Are there often students from Third High at that internet cafe?” While everyone was eating, Yan Wei suddenly picked up the topic, tilting her head slightly to ask Jiang Youyi.
Jiang Youyi stirred the colorful taro balls in her bowl. “Just Hu Hao and his gang.”
Yan Wei: “You stood up to him today, will he cause trouble for you?”
Jiang Youyi didn’t even lift her eyelids. “Let him come then.”
It was just fighting, she wasn’t afraid.
Yan Wei: “…” Suddenly at a loss for words.
“They’re a bunch of hoodlums, you’re a girl, what ‘let him come’?” Yan Wei was a little angry. “Those people are capable of anything, don’t mess with them.”
Jiang Youyi suddenly put down her spoon.
Yan Wei thought she was going to argue back, but Jiang Youyi only said one word, “Okay.”
The sudden obedience made Yan Wei a little unaccustomed. Jiang Youyi saw the dazed expression on Yan Wei’s face as she wished.
She curved her lips and suddenly reached into Yan Wei’s bowl, scooping out a spoonful of double-skin milk. “Don’t get cocky.”
The meaning of this sentence was unclear, and only Yan Wei understood it.
Jiang Youyi was saying that she had been teased by Yan Wei many times recently and had made a fool of herself. Now she understood Yan Wei’s other side and would naturally no longer naively think that Yan Wei had been unintentional before.
She was the kind of person who held grudges.
In the instant that Jiang Youyi turned her head away while holding the double-skin milk, Yan Wei again caught a glimpse of a small patch of red ear tip showing through her hair.
Yan Wei didn’t say anything, the smile on her face couldn’t be contained, so she buried her face down, following the edge of the bowl, and scooped up a spoonful next to the small hole Jiang Youyi had made, putting it in her mouth.
“What kind of riddle are you two playing?” Zhang Yutong tilted her head, complaining in confusion.
Yan Wei’s lips curved into a smile, and she replied, “It’s nothing.”
Zhou Xiaoxiao looked away, staring blankly at her small spoon, lost in thought.
Taking advantage of Jiang Youyi turning her face away, Yan Wei also took a spoonful from Jiang Youyi’s bowl, picking out Jiang Youyi’s favorite purple sweet potato taro ball, while also adding, “Then don’t go to the internet cafe tonight, or why don’t you come back to school with us?”
“Isn’t Jiang Youyi’s home in Fudu?” Zhou Xiaoxiao suddenly interjected at this time.
Jiang Youyi didn’t respond. Yan Wei took over the conversation. “Her parents aren’t home often, it’s quite boring for her alone.” After speaking, she looked at Jiang Youyi. “Isn’t it?”
“Mm,” Jiang Youyi said, her face expressionless. “But I’m used to it.”
After speaking, she looked down at her watch. “It’s about time, I’ll see you guys out to get a taxi.”
That bald guy had been staring at them for quite a while.
