Confession to You in Early Summer (GL) - Chapter 16
The commotion just now attracted many students to come and watch. The dormitory supervisor quickly arrived at the scene and knocked on the door panel, asking, “What happened to your door lock?”
Jiang Youyi closed the glass door of the washroom, ignoring the noise outside. Several girls exchanged glances and nudged each other, looking like they wanted to report something.
“The lock broke just now, couldn’t open it from either inside or outside,” Yan Wei put down her book, fabricating a reason for Jiang Youyi’s forceful action.
She spoke calmly and confidently, not only fooling the dormitory supervisor but also stunning the girls in the dorm room.
One girl’s lips moved, trying to bring the topic to Jiang Youyi, “That door was…”
Yan Wei interrupted her without changing her expression, “Maybe something got stuck in the lock cylinder. We didn’t notice when closing the door, and the handle couldn’t be turned from the inside.”
The dormitory supervisor didn’t suspect anything else. Yan Wei was a good student with excellent grades and conduct, so she definitely wouldn’t lie.
She checked the broken door lock, estimating that she would have to call someone to repair it, and helplessly educated the impatient high school students, “Next time you encounter this kind of situation, you must find a teacher first, don’t kick the door yourselves.”
After the dormitory supervisor left, the girl who had led the trouble-making aggressively approached, looking to interrogate Yan Wei. “What do you mean by that, Yan Wei?”
Several girls from the same dorm also looked over.
Yan Wei carefully organized her review materials, quickly outlining key points. Hearing this, she didn’t even lift her head, replying casually, “What do you mean by what?”
The girl snatched her pen and threw it into the trash can by the bed. “Why did you say that just now? Who are you trying to protect? Don’t you know how the door broke? Why are you muddying the waters?”
Yan Wei finally raised her face, meeting her gaze without flinching. “Then would you rather I say that you deliberately locked me and Jiang Youyi out and wouldn’t let us in? If she hadn’t kicked the door, and I had gone to call a teacher instead, what do you think the result would have been?”
“You!” The girl was so angry that her eyes slanted upwards, looking like she wanted to eat someone.
They had no idea that Yan Wei would return to the dorm with Jiang Youyi.
“Alright, alright, we’re all classmates,” another student came over and pulled her arm.
While persuading, she also turned to look at Yan Wei. “Yan Wei, don’t think you can give us attitude just because your grades are good. It was just a classmate joking around, you’re being no fun like this.”
“Oh, no fun? You guys think playing like that is fun?” Yan Wei put down her book and stood up, retorting with a blank expression, “Then I suggest you go and carefully look up the dictionary to understand the difference between ‘joking around’ and ‘bullying,’ learn to respect others, and then come talk to me about whether it’s fun or not.”
The girl still wanted to say something, but the glass door of the inner room opened with a crash. Jiang Youyi stood with her hands in her pockets, leaning against the doorframe, coldly watching the few people in the dorm room.
The air was silent for two seconds, and the lunch break bell rang at the right time. No one spoke anymore, each holding their breath and returning to their own beds to lie down.
Having been delayed for over twenty minutes, she hadn’t had time to look at anything. The materials were taken out in vain, and she had also lost a pen.
Life was hard, Yan Wei sighed.
“Clatter!”
A brand-new signing pen flew through the air and landed on Yan Wei’s quilt.
Yan Wei looked up, and Jiang Youyi had just withdrawn her hand, turning her head away to continue playing on her phone.
A small piece of torn paper was clipped to the pen cap, with a few wild and unrestrained cursive words written on it:
Thanks, the pen is to compensate you.

The plan to casually meet at the sports field failed. Yan Wei and Zhou Xiaoxiao ran four laps together but didn’t see Jiang Youyi. They guessed Jiang Youyi had gone straight back to the dorm after self-study.
That’s right, Jiang Youyi had excellent athletic ability. Even with a leg injury, she could still finish in the top three in the 1600-meter event, so she didn’t need to prepare in advance at all.
On the way back, Yan Wei thought that after last weekend’s “heart-to-heart,” her relationship with Jiang Youyi had eased somewhat. She could have completely confirmed if Jiang Youyi had signed up for the 1600 meters and then proactively asked her to run on the sports field together.
But somehow, she felt an unspeakable awkwardness.
Maybe it was because of the inexplicable unpleasantness with Jiang Youyi last weekend. Her mood was a bit subtle now. She wanted to take the opportunity to further show her face in front of Jiang Youyi, but she also didn’t really want to talk to Jiang Youyi face-to-face.
Returning to the dorm as the lights-out bell rang, Yan Wei washed up and fell asleep immediately.
The next morning, Yan Wei’s back ached, and it was difficult to get out of bed. She rarely indulged herself for five minutes, so she was a bit late going to the cafeteria, standing at the end of the ordering line. Zhou Xiaoxiao was one step ahead of Yan Wei and ordered the last grilled sausage.
Yan Wei was heartbroken. Zhou Xiaoxiao sat opposite Yan Wei and asked her with a smile, “Do you want some? If you lend me your notes, I’ll split this sausage with you!”
Before Yan Wei could say no, Jiang Youyi came over with her tray, paused beside Yan Wei’s table, picked up a grilled sausage, and threw it into Yan Wei’s plate. “I ordered too much, it’s a waste if I don’t finish it. Help me out.”
After speaking, she walked away with her tray.
“Damn it!” Zhou Xiaoxiao couldn’t help but curse.
Yan Wei laughed so hard that she almost sprayed the bun she had just bitten into. She quickly took a sip of soy milk and swallowed it whole.
What level of cuteness was this?
Returning to the classroom, Yan Wei found an unopened box of medical glucose in her desk drawer. It was the liquid glucose that could be obtained from the school infirmary, with five single-dose tubes in a box, ready to drink.
Zhou Xiaoxiao had sharp eyes and exclaimed in surprise, “Who is so thoughtful? Did they write a name? Could it be the class monitor?”
“No, I don’t know who put it there.”
Yan Wei held the glucose and turned to ask the classmates who had arrived in the classroom before her, “Did any of you see who brought this and put it in my desk?”
The girl shook her head. “Didn’t see, ask someone else.”
Yan Wei had a guess in her heart. She looked past the noisy classmates towards the back seat by the window. Jiang Youyi also happened to look up and was precisely caught by Yan Wei’s gaze.
Yan Wei raised the square box in her hand. Jiang Youyi remained unmoved, lowered her head expressionlessly, and continued to doodle, not knowing what she was writing.
Yan Wei smiled silently. She knew where Jiang Youyi had gone after evening self-study last night.
Jiang Youyi carried a mug to the front of the classroom to get hot water, and on her way, she was once again intercepted by the female classmate sitting in the first row.
“Want to go to the sports field with me to run tonight?”
Carrying the confidence of five tubes of glucose, Yan Wei didn’t even realize how much coquettishness was in her words.
Jiang Youyi paused, the mouth of her mug tilted towards Yan Wei, shaking the two pieces of brown sugar with ginger shreds at the bottom. “Understand?”
The strong and familiar scent rushed towards her face, and Yan Wei was instantly speechless.
This jar of ginger tea was still the one she had bought for Jiang Youyi, a dysmenorrhea killer.
Seeing Yan Wei at a loss for words, Jiang Youyi wanted to laugh but forcibly held it back. She went to the podium to get a cup of hot water and returned, gently swinging her spoon as she passed Yan Wei, whispering, “Wait for me after evening self-study. I’ll go be the supervisor and watch you guys run.”
Before Yan Wei had time to be happy, she immediately noticed an important clue in Jiang Youyi’s words.
You guys?
Jiang Youyi must have gone to the sports field last night and seen her and Zhou Xiaoxiao running!
But she had actually left silently without saying a word!
