Yan Wei returned to the classroom and organized her notes, unconsciously humming the song Jiang Youyi had sung that night.
She didn’t sing the lyrics, just hummed the melody softly, but she really had no musical talent. Zhou Xiaoxiao couldn’t quite make out the tune, so she leaned closer and asked, “What song is that?”
“Cai Minyou’s ‘I Can,'” Yan Wei replied without looking up.
Zhou Xiaoxiao looked quite interested, “Oh, it’s that one! I thought it sounded familiar! Do you like this song too?”
Yan Wei nodded, “Yeah, I like it. It’s pretty good.”
Although the original singer was also good, she preferred Jiang Youyi’s version.
When Jiang Youyi sang, her voice was a little different from usual, softer and more delicate, very gentle, and also… magnetic.
Of course, in Yan Wei’s memory, it had been seven years since Jiang Youyi had sung for her, and the sound of her voice might have been beautified by her subconscious.
Zhou Xiaoxiao saw that Yan Wei’s eyes curved up after saying “good,” and she couldn’t help but smile. It seemed like she really liked it.
She lowered her head, blocked her phone with her drawer, searched, and added the song to her playlist.
This way, she had a song that the same goddess Yan Wei liked, hehe.
Jiang Youyi walked into the classroom with the bell ringing for class. As she passed by Yan Wei, her bangs fell down to cover her eyes. Yan Wei stopped humming and didn’t look up either. The two of them were like strangers, as if the brief interaction in the corner of the rooftop had never happened.
Nothing unusual happened for the next two days. Yan Wei gradually found her rhythm in high school studies. Although she didn’t see immediate results, she was, after all, reviewing knowledge she had learned before. With proper time management, it was very hopeful that she could recover to a normal level before the college entrance exam.
The day before Qingming Festival was Wednesday, and the school organized a hiking trip. Students from the first and second years had to participate.
The activity took place in the suburbs, at a famous local spot called Yuedong Lake. The participating students would start from a designated point, walk around the lake, and reach the destination to complete the task.
Zhou Xiaoxiao checked online and found that the greenway around Yuedong Lake was about 17 kilometers long.
For the freshmen participating in the hiking activity for the first time, the 17 kilometers was probably just a meaningless number in their minds. But for the sophomores who had already participated in the hiking activity last year, those 17 kilometers were simply a nightmare.
However, the students, who had quickly forgotten the pain, were still enthusiastic about outdoor activities that allowed them to escape the classroom.
The freshmen set off in the morning, while the sophomores, under the authority of their teachers, listened to half a day of classes impatiently before boarding the school’s rented buses in the afternoon to go to the activity site.
Although there were rich rewards for the students who reached the finish line first, and the top three would also receive certificates, most students were not interested in winning and simply wanted to take advantage of this rare opportunity given by the school to relax.
Teacher Xu counted the number of students on the bus. As soon as the bus stopped, several male students near the door dashed away.
Yan Wei waited for most of the impatient students to leave before getting off the bus slowly. She looked up at the bright and clear sky and her mood brightened.
She didn’t know where Jiang Youyi had gone. Zhou Xiaoxiao and Yan Wei paired up and chatted with their classmates as they walked.
The scenery along the shore of Yuedong Lake was beautiful, with green mountains and clear waters on both sides of the road. Groups of teenage boys and girls were laughing and chatting along the way, presenting a vibrant and youthful picture.
As they walked, Yan Wei lost interest in admiring the scenery.
Perhaps as Zhou Xiaoxiao had said, all her skill points were invested in studying. Not only did she have no talent in music, but her physical fitness was also very poor.
Later, when she went to university, because of her outstanding appearance and temperament, she was often harassed by males, so she specially went to an interest class to learn free fighting for a period of time, and her physical fitness improved. But now, in high school, her physical condition was very poor, and she was out of shape, and she started panting after walking a few steps.
Zhou Xiaoxiao looked back at her, “Are you very tired? Do you want to rest?”
“It’s okay,” Yan Wei waved her hand.
The class monitor and a few male students walked ahead, turning back to look from time to time. The boys pushed and shoved each other, and soon the class monitor was pushed forward. He blushed and walked up to Yan Wei, mustering up his courage, “Yan Wei, is your backpack very heavy? Can I help you carry it?”
The boys cheered, “Let him carry it! Let him carry it!” Yan Wei was a little speechless, thinking that they looked like they were watching a confession and urging the female lead to agree.
How childish.
“No need, thank you,” Yan Wei politely declined, “It’s not very heavy, I can carry it myself.”
The boys sighed, and the class monitor’s face turned even redder, his ears almost burning. He mumbled something that Yan Wei couldn’t hear clearly, but he had already run away.
In the late spring and early summer, although it wasn’t very hot, Yan Wei started to sweat after walking for a while, so she took off her school uniform jacket and hung it on her arm.
Looking at the boys running away laughing and joking, Zhou Xiaoxiao suddenly said in a low voice, “The class monitor seems to like you.”
Yan Wei of course could see that, even if she didn’t understand these things when she was in high school, she wouldn’t not understand now that she had returned from the future.
“I don’t like him,” Yan Wei’s answer was clear and unambiguous. She didn’t like him and that was it. Even if someone heard her words and repeated them verbatim to the class monitor, she would still have the same attitude.
She thought that maybe it was because she hadn’t clearly told the class monitor that it was impossible when she was studying, so the boy had been waiting all this time.
Zhou Xiaoxiao laughed when she heard her say it so decisively, teasing, “The class monitor is handsome and kind. Many girls in our grade like his type. Are you really not considering it, Goddess Yan?”
“Considering what?” Yan Wei shrugged, “We’re still students, early dating is against the school rules.”
Yan Wei thought, ‘a soft-spoken and serious guy like the class monitor couldn’t attract her attention seven years ago, and it’s even less likely now.’
“Goddess Yan is truly a role model,” Zhou Xiaoxiao laughed. “So, that means you won’t fall in love until after graduation?”
Yan Wei nodded as a response.
As soon as she finished speaking, Jiang Youyi, who had disappeared earlier, suddenly walked past her, holding a can of cola and drinking as she walked.
So she had just gone to buy something to drink.
That meant Jiang Youyi had probably heard the few sentences she had just said to Zhou Xiaoxiao.
At this moment, the class monitor, who had already walked away, returned and handed a unopened bottle of mineral water to Yan Wei with a red face, “It’s unopened.”
Yan Wei smiled at the class monitor, “You really don’t have to, Class Monitor, I have one. You can drink it yourself.”
Then, she called out to Jiang Youyi, “Youyi, give me your water.”
Jiang Youyi, who had been observing from a distance, was caught off guard when Yan Wei called her name and hadn’t reacted. She instinctively handed over the can of cola she had just been drinking.
By the time she realized what she had done, it was too late.
Yan Wei took the cola, unscrewed the cap, took a sip, and then screwed it back on, all in one smooth motion.
Jiang Youyi: “!!!”
