Creating Anime In A Fantasy World - Chapter 56: "Goblin Slayer" Wraps Up
A larger crowd than ever before had gathered in front of Saeki’s wooden cabin.
The unusual liveliness made the fully armored “living corpse” standing there feel uneasy and out of place.
Meanwhile, Edward stepped down from a carriage that had arrived from afar.
Upon seeing Edward, the gathered adventurers beamed with excitement, as they all knew today would mark the filming of the final scene of Goblin Slayer. With the shoot wrapping up, the movie would be ready for release at any moment.
Edwardg this time, Edward glanced at the main cast in the distance, who looked a mix of nervous and downcast.
It was clear that, including Daphne, the actors who had taken part in Goblin Slayer had grown attached to the project.
Some had even begun to identify with their roles.
But, no matter what, every story has its end.
Fully aware of this, Edward paid no heed to their gloom and simply said, “Take this chance to prepare properly. Don’t slack off when the time comes.”
“Yes…”
After receiving their listless replies, Edward shook his head and walked over to Saeki. “Looks like you’ve done a good job. This cabin’s even cleaner than when I was here last.”
“Mm…”
Still unsettled by the number of people in his home, Saeki seemed a bit stiff.
Understanding this, Edward smiled and asked, “Where are those kids you took in?”
“Since we’re filming today, I sent them to stay in town…”
As Saeki spoke, he led Edward inside the cabin, where Eliza was already seated, as if she’d been waiting.
It was evident that, since Eliza and Saeki were old friends and she knew Saeki’s background, he’d allowed her inside.
“This place is too small, and I was worried we’d mess up the setup. So I let the other adventurers wait outside.”
Eliza’s words were more of a justification, but Edward, aware that the Guild Master simply didn’t want to hear adventurers gossiping about her, responded slowly, “Well then, call in the people for today’s shoot.”
As soon as Edward finished speaking, a group of flustered, nervous adventurers stumbled in from outside.
They were today’s actors, and because the scene being filmed was second only to the grand adventure guild scene in scale, there were so many people that the small cabin was starting to feel cramped.
Saeki sighed in exasperation. “Uh, I’m worried about my furniture…”
“We’ll buy you a new set after this,” said Eliza with her typical extravagance.
Ignoring her comment, Edward smiled at the group and said, “As per our discussions, everyone here will participate in today’s performance. You’ve had the script for a while now, so I assume there are no issues?”
“Of course!”
The adventurers’ excited voices reflected their eagerness, and soon, Edward began directing the shoot.
With Eliza present to maintain order, the usually chaotic group of adventurers were surprisingly organized.
Finally, before the sun set, everything was ready.
…
Night fell, and the last scene of Goblin Slayer began.
In the grassy fields, the adventurers lay in wait, hidden in the bushes.
In the distance, a group of goblins brazenly approached what appeared to be a poorly defended cabin.
Just as the adventurers prepared to spring from their hiding spots and charge, their expressions changed.
The goblins were carrying a large wooden plank, which seemed to be used as a shield.
Strapped to that ‘shield’ was a human girl, bound and used as a literal meat shield.
This scene was straight from the original work.
In the novel, the girls were described as being completely naked, but Edward wouldn’t dare film it that way, so the girls were fully clothed while tied to the board.
Though the situation was less grim, at least this version could be publicly aired.
Despite their fury, the adventurers managed to hold back.
When the goblins carrying the shields got closer, a pleasant aroma suddenly wafted over the field, and the next moment, the goblins at the front collapsed.
“Sleep magic.”
The goblins had fallen victim to a plan laid out by Goblin Slayer, based on their predictable behavior.
A hidden mage cast a sleep spell, incapacitating the advancing goblins, and the remaining adventurers charged in to rescue the girls.
From there, the battle followed the script smoothly.
The adventurers, well-versed in nighttime combat, delivered a performance that was not only convincing but also filled with genuine skill as they dispatched the goblins.
The story quickly moved to its final battle: Goblin Slayer versus the Goblin Lord!
The actor playing the Goblin Lord? None other than their good friend, the troll.
Throughout the filming of Goblin Slayer, nearly every major boss had been played by a troll, which the Headless Horseman had painstakingly captured for the scenes.
Rumors of a terrifying Headless Horseman even spread among the monsters in the North, as he scoured their lairs to find a troll for each shoot.
The results were clear. Troll numbers, already low, had dropped even further.
While the situation was better compared to goblins, trolls were still rare enough that requests from the Northern Adventurer Guild for exterminating monster nests had decreased significantly.
…
In the forest.
Realizing that the adventurers had seen through his plan, the Goblin Lord abandoned his last piece on the chessboard and began to flee into the woods.
He knew that as long as he lived, he could rise again one day.
Just like the time his lair was destroyed by adventurers years ago.
Although he had been a mere child at the time, and should have been killed, the female adventurer who found him had decided to spare him, thinking he was too young to be dangerous.
In return, he stabbed her in the back, killing her.
As long as he survived, he could rebuild everything.
If he could just make it back to his lair and breed more goblins with the women there, one day, he would wipe out humanity!
But as he raced through the secret escape route he had prepared, a figure appeared before him, making his pupils contract sharply.
“I knew you’d think that way. What an idiot. That army was obviously bait,” said Goblin Slayer, emerging from the trees like a demon. “Your lair no longer exists.”
“————————!”
In an instant, the massive Goblin Lord lunged at the Goblin Slayer, towering over the ordinary-sized man, with his war axe—a weapon of immense power—in hand!
The battle was fierce. Goblin Slayer, who was not truly at silver rank in strength, could not stand against the Goblin Lord and was eventually knocked down.
However, just as the Goblin Lord, excited at the prospect of killing him, prepared to strike, two thin walls of light suddenly surrounded him.
“Oh great God of Light, please grant us your holy protection, shielding the weak—Holy Barrier.”
The priestess, who had been hiding in the shadows, calmly chanted as she cast the defensive spell, trapping the Goblin Lord between two walls of light.
At that moment, the dagger Goblin Slayer had earlier stabbed into the Goblin Lord’s body pressed further into its chest.
In a desperate attempt to survive, the Goblin Lord, wrapped in the Holy Barrier, began to speak in human language, sobbing as he said, “I’m sorry… I… I won’t do it again. I’ll go back to the forest and live peacefully…”
But Goblin Slayer, who had been lying on the ground, slowly stood up and thrust his broken sword into the neck of the Goblin Lord, who still held on to a glimmer of hope. “Goblin Lord? You’re just a filthy goblin… And I am the Goblin Slayer.”
Schk—!
bl00d gushed from the Goblin Lord’s massive body, marking the end of the nighttime battle—and the completion of the movie Goblin Slayer.
