- Chapter 19 - Desperate Counterattack
Liu Tao had waited for a long time, yet no servant returned to report. His face grew darker by the second.
“Useless trash! They can’t even handle such a simple task!”
“Young Master, how about I go check?” A mid-Foundation Stage enforcer bowed and offered.
Liu Tao was about to nod when suddenly, a terrified scream echoed from the forest.
Liu Tao and the others’ expressions changed instantly.
Chen Le’an!
That name surfaced in all their minds. The mid-Foundation enforcer dashed out immediately—unaware that a dark, deadly barrel had long since locked onto him.
As he entered the Barrett’s effective range, Chen Le’an decisively pulled the trigger.
Bang!
The loud gunshot rang out.
A bullet tore through the air at 900 meters per second, pierced through the enforcer’s protective robe, and punched clean through his body.
The massive impact knocked him to the ground, and he struggled to stand, revealing a gaping hole in his body, his internal organs faintly visible.
Just as he stared in horror—Bang!
Another shot rang out.
This time, the bullet struck his head.
A mist of bl00d burst in the air. The enforcer collapsed.
Liu Tao and the late Foundation enforcer were stunned, exchanging shocked glances.
More time passed—still no signs of movement.
Had the mid-Foundation enforcer died?
They quickly dismissed the thought. After all, he was mid-Foundation Stage—and there hadn’t even been any sign of spiritual energy used.
How could he be killed just like that? Besides, the noise didn’t match the peasants’ description at all.
Little did they know— Chen Le’an had already upgraded his weapons.
This was a Barrett sniper rifle, firing armor-piercing rounds that could even penetrate tanks!
Still no response from the forest.
Liu Tao couldn’t wait any longer.
He turned to the late-Foundation enforcer:
“Please go check what’s going on.”
The enforcer prepared to move out, but Liu Tao stopped him.
“Better fly on your sword!”
The enforcer paused, clearly feeling Liu Tao was overreacting. It was just a mere Qi Refining peasant—no need for such caution.
But since it was the young master’s order, he didn’t argue. He lazily summoned his flying sword and took to the skies—not even bothering to activate the defensive aura on his robe.
Liu Tao thought to warn him, but then dismissed the idea.
That lowly peasant’s weapon only worked at close range. In the air, he wouldn’t be able to touch them.
Chen Le’an was practically gleeful.
Earlier, the forest limited his visibility—so his first shot only hit the enforcer’s body.
But now this guy just flew into open air—a sitting duck, and he hadn’t even activated his defense!
Chen Le’an calmly aimed at the enforcer’s head. He held his breath and squeezed the trigger.
Bang!
The bullet flew toward the enforcer.
His body jolted, and he dropped from the flying sword like a rock.
A large, dark hole now pierced his forehead.
That moment was like wildfire—it ignited the fury in Liu Tao’s heart.
Two Foundation Stage enforcers—killed without even drawing their swords!
Liu Tao’s eyes turned icy cold, radiating a killing intent so intense it chilled the air.
This time, he locked onto Chen Le’an’s position. Without hesitation, he formed a rapid series of hand seals. A giant fireball, over ten feet wide, appeared in his palm—so hot it twisted the surrounding air.
“Go!”
With a shout, the fireball shot out like a meteor, crackling with destructive energy, heading straight for Chen Le’an.
“Not good!” Chen Le’an cursed.
He abandoned the Barrett rifle and ran for his life. Using his Wind God Leg technique at full power. But how could a Qi Refining cultivator match the power of a peak Foundation expert?
The explosion roared behind him. Even though he escaped with all his might, the shockwave still hit him. He was thrown like a rag doll into a thick tree.
Bl00d gushed from his mouth, soaking his clothes. His face turned pale with despair. Just the residual force had almost killed him.
Liu Tao floated above like a god descending. His eyes were cold and merciless, filled with disdain for a lowly insect.
“You wretched peasant. You broke the Liu family’s rules and harmed our people.
Today is your death day.”
His voice was bone-chilling.
Chen Le’an lay motionless on the ground.
Liu Tao stepped forward, preparing to crush his bones one by one.
But then he remembered Liu Qiang.
“Hmph. Playing dead to lure me in again? Using the same trick you used on my third brother?”
He sneered.
“Trash like you has no creativity.”
He formed another fireball, ready to finish Chen Le’an off.
Just then, a buzzing sound came from above.
Liu Tao looked up in confusion.
A strange object was wobbling toward him.
A drone—covered completely in C4 explosives, making it clumsy and heavy.
As Liu Tao stared in confusion, it suddenly dropped down.
BOOM!!!
A deafening explosion rang out.
A fiery mushroom cloud blossomed in the air, lighting up the sky like day.
Liu Tao’s figure was swallowed by the raging fire, as if tossed into a furnace.
His robe’s protective aura barely held—but even that was flickering under the intense force.
“What… what is this?!”
Liu Tao screamed internally, unable to comprehend.
BOOM!
Another explosion followed.
Chen Le’an had taken all his grenades, bundled them into a cluster bomb, and hurled it.
Liu Tao’s aura shattered.
His defenses collapsed.
He was completely consumed by flames.
Seeing this, Chen Le’an finally let out a sigh of relief.
This battle had nearly drained all his energy from using the drone to kill servants to the Barrett sniper taking out the enforcers, then the explosive drone for Liu Tao—every move was on the edge of death.
If any Foundation cultivator got even one real shot at him, it’d be fatal.
But technology… that’s real power.
Catching his breath, he quickly looted the three Foundation cultivators.
“All poor bastards!”
The enforcers only had low-grade flying swords, robes, and three energy-recovery pills total.
One robe had even been shot through by the Barrett.
Liu Tao was better off. He had a messy pile of pills—eight in total.
Though Chen Le’an had burned through all the firearms brought from the modern world,
he didn’t mind.
“One bottle of hotpot broth can trade for tons more.”
Overall, this was a big win.
Sadly, Liu Tao’s spiritual-grade robe and flying sword were destroyed in the blast.
Otherwise, they could’ve sold for a lot.
Chen Le’an swallowed a healing pill, but before he could start meditating, he heard the sound of noisy footsteps nearby.
