- Chapter 37 - Killing The Two Old Men
Mo Ling looked at the two old men who were staring at him with confused expressions. He couldn’t help but laugh so hard.
“So, you two are that easy to fool!”
The two old men’s eyes instantly filled with killing intent. They swiftly launched several attacks on Mo Ling!
“Ice Palm!”
A wave of frost rushed at him like a snow leopard roaring, ready to bite.
Mo Ling tapped his arm, and the Invincible Zen Staff appeared in his palm. The dark staff had hanging copper rings that jingled loudly.
The staff seemed to sense the killing intent. Before Mo Ling could even move it, it surged forward on its own to meet the attack.
The old men felt the power of the Invincible Zen Staff. They shouted loudly and poured all their strength into their attacks.
Two snow leopards instantly grew to over 100 feet tall—one toe could crush a mountain!
Long Qianqian looked up at the sky, watching the snow fall. Her face turned cold. She took out her jade flute and began to play. Her fingers moved quickly, and two phoenixes flew into the sky.
Suddenly, the phoenixes’ golden flames illuminated the snowy, dark sky. The snow leopards let out a painful roar as they felt the heat.
The Invincible Zen Staff was attempting to fly forward, so Mo Ling grabbed it firmly with both hands and swung it in the direction of the snow leopard ahead. A black blade of wind, shaped like a scythe, shot forward.
It passed through the snow leopard’s illusion-like body.
“Hah, so it was you two who darkened the sky like this. You didn’t want anyone to see the leopards were just illusions. Did you truly believe we would fall for such a simple deception?
Mo Ling flew on the wind toward the head of a snow leopard.
But before he could reach it, both snow leopards lowered their heads and opened their giant mouths, swallowing him in one bite.
The two old men’s eyes lit up. They clenched and said, “Arrogant brat! Let us show you what a true storm feels like!”
Inside the blizzard tornado, Mo Ling tightly held the Invincible Zen Staff. He became aware that he had become entangled in it, but fortunately, his reaction was swift. When the snow leopard lowered its head, he had already started chanting a protection spell.
He stood on the Nine-Spinning Lotus Platform, and the powerful force of the Invincible Zen Staff helped him stay steady. The raging storm outside swirled around, but he remained untouched.
However, Long Qianqian didn’t know this. The snowstorm blocked her view. Hearing the two old men speak proudly, she frowned deeply. Still, she didn’t believe Mo Ling would be so reckless. She held her position and kept using the phoenixes to guard him.
Mo Ling noticed two points of golden light flashing inside the storm. He knew it was Long Qianqian guiding him. He smiled slightly, gripping the Invincible Zen Staff tighter.
Since they dared to swallow him, that was their mistake!
Standing firm on the lotus platform, Mo Ling began wildly swinging the staff. He didn’t hold back—he just did whatever felt good.
Outside, Long Qianqian saw the snow leopard’s body start to break apart. Large chunks of it were falling away. The two old men shouted and tried to stabilize the situation.
However, as the snow leopards were trying to regain power, an increasing amount of snow began to melt away. The damage was too fast to fix, so they began to collapse.
Boom!
Like an avalanche, the two giant snow leopards completely crumbled. A flood of snow surged forward. Then, Long Qianqian quickly had one of her phoenixes grab her and fly away.
After the snow passed, tiny snowflakes still floated in the air. The sunlight peeked through the dark spell like two hands pulling back a curtain. The two old men looked up.
They saw a black figure falling from the sky.
Run!
But their legs wouldn’t move. When they looked down, they saw golden shackles that held their feet in place. The flute music grew sharp in their ears.
Their pupils shrank in fear. Mo Ling’s Invincible Zen Staff came crashing down like smashing watermelons.
The bl00d splattered ten feet away.
Long Qianqian joined Mo Ling and looked at the two corpses on the ground.
“They were so powerful. If they just kept training, they wouldn’t have ended up like this.”
Her tone almost sounded regretful.
Mo Ling took her hand and said, “Who knows how many people they’ve hurt? If we pity them, who will pity those they killed?”
Long Qianqian nodded and left the place with Mo Ling.
“Now we can finally go find the treasure.”
Just as they were about to leave, Mo Ling suddenly sensed a killing intent behind him. He quickly pulled Long Qianqian and flew upward on the wind.
Thousands of arrows shot out behind them. Each one burned with karmic fire. When they saw Mo Ling and Long Qianqian flying, the arrows curved upward, chasing them into the sky.
Long Qianqian’s face changed. “These are Xingyao Sect’s Thousand Extinguishing Fire Arrows!”
Xingyao Sect?
Mo Ling’s eyes narrowed. “I have no grudge against them. Why would they attack like this?”
As soon as he said it, he thought of the temple incident.
That saint, Shuiyue, must have rushed back to report what happened to them in the mountains. Xingyao Sect probably wants to take over the temple and its secrets—so they’ve come to kill them!
Mo Ling realized that if Xingyao Sect had made their move, they must have sent many powerful fighters. They wouldn’t give up until they got what they wanted.
He leaned in and said to Long Qianqian, “Let’s split up. You go to Qianfo City (Thousand Buddha) to investigate. I’ll draw them away and meet you there.”
Long Qianqian saw the deadly arrows and knew that the sect had no good intentions. She was worried for Mo Ling.
“No! You can’t handle the situation alone!”
But Mo Ling said firmly, “They probably already know about the treasure. This case is about the big picture. We must get to the city to get the prayer beads. Go!”
With tears in her eyes, Long Qianqian bit her lip, nodded, and left riding on her phoenix.
The arrows were only targeting Mo Ling. They ignored anyone else, so they didn’t chase her.
Mo Ling flew through the sky while zigzagging to dodge the arrows.
Damn! This is like a race car game!
He kept making sharp turns, spinning around, but couldn’t shake the arrows.
Still, he knew the farther the arrows went from the caster, the weaker they’d become. So he flew straight ahead, faster than ever.
As he passed over Thousand Buddha City, he glanced down and noticed something strange.
From above, the whole city looked like a giant sitting Buddha. The city’s open hands formed a circle around an ancient pagoda.
Mo Ling’s instincts told him that pagoda must hold the Thousand Buddha Robe of All Being!
“No matter who’s chasing me, I should thank you for pushing me here!”
Mo Ling flew past the city. Behind him, a furious Xingyao Sect elder suddenly appeared in front of him.
Mo Ling saw the elder’s black robe with red flames and immediately knew—he was from Xingyao Sect.
The flaming arrows were this old man’s weapon.
“You, an elder, ambushing a junior like this… Aren’t you ashamed?”
