Dark-colored Fairy Tale: Seven Magicians - Chapter 10
Chapter 10
“Is it going to rain?” Liu Menglu’s attention was slightly diverted by the dark clouds gathering in the sky, and she quickly walked toward her house.
When she reached the stairwell, she saw that no one was around and, ignoring her image, stretched. With a casual ruffle, her once smooth hair instantly turned into a messy pile of straw. The image of the school’s goddess was gone.
But she didn’t care. No one was around anyway… until the elevator door opened.
The elevator door—opened!
Liu Menglu instantly froze. Her arm, which had been raised in the air, became rigid.
The girl inside the elevator didn’t expect to see such a scene and was slightly stunned.
Liu Menglu wanted to die right then and there!
Oh my god, how embarrassing!
She was screaming internally, but a smile was on her face. She nonchalantly placed her arms at her sides and even gave a forced greeting. “Hello.”
The girl didn’t answer. She only nodded and stepped out of the elevator sideways.
As they passed each other, Liu Menglu subconsciously compared their heights.
She was a head taller than the other girl. However, seeing the cold, beautiful face of the girl, Liu Menglu awkwardly retracted her rude gaze.
The girl only glanced at her and then frowned. The demon’s scent on her was getting stronger.
“You…” She wanted to ask something, but thinking that her sister was just an ordinary person, Chloe closed her mouth. She could just follow her more in the coming days. There was no need to tell Liu Menglu about the strange, hidden world. With this thought, Chloe quickly left.
Liu Menglu pressed the elevator button, and the door slowly closed and began to ascend. The slight movement brought Liu Menglu back to her senses, and she felt a little strange.
Was that little girl a new resident?
The thought flashed by and was quickly thrown to the back of her mind. The next day, Liu Menglu went to school as usual and found that Lu Yuting still hadn’t come.
This made Liu Menglu frown. “She’s still not at school today?”
Yang Shishi’s voice was lazy. “The teacher said she’s taking a week off for illness. It must be pretty serious. Otherwise, with her personality, she would have crawled here. The monthly exam is in half a month, after all.”
Hearing this, Liu Menglu nodded thoughtfully. It looked like her exam papers wouldn’t be delivered today.
Just as Liu Menglu was feeling a little helpless, the homeroom teacher suddenly called her over. “Mengmeng, do you have any plans after school today?”
Liu Menglu shook her head.
“If you’re not busy, could you please help me deliver these review notes and this set of exam papers to Lu Yuting’s house?” the teacher said, shaking the materials in her hand.
Liu Menglu was about to nod, but thinking of Lu Yumo, she couldn’t help but frown.
“What’s wrong? Are you busy tonight and can’t go?”
Liu Menglu hesitated for a moment but agreed anyway. After all, she also wanted to give her own papers to that proud little girl. Otherwise, if the monthly exam went badly, that girl would just hide and cry again.
Seeing Liu Menglu agree, the teacher handed her the prepared materials and exam papers and gave her Lu Yuting’s address.
As time passed, the evening sun gradually rose in the sky. Liu Menglu walked toward Lu Yuting’s house, carrying her own papers and the teacher’s materials.
Lu Yuting’s home was not far from the school, only a ten-minute walk.
However, due to the heavy schoolwork, by the time she arrived at Lu Yuting’s place, it was already 6 PM.
It was early summer, and the sky at 6 PM was only a little dim. Liu Menglu looked at the somewhat shabby residential community and shook her head softly. She quickly walked to Lu Yuting’s apartment.
She was about to reach out and knock on the door but hesitated—Lu Yuting’s brother…
However, regular third-year students’ evening self-study usually lasted until 10 PM. It was only 6 PM now, so if she was quick, she shouldn’t run into him.
Thinking this, Liu Menglu took a deep breath and knocked on the peeling iron door in front of her.
As the knocking echoed, a slightly weathered voice came from inside, carried through the iron door to Liu Menglu’s ears.
“Yumo, you’re back early today.”
With the squeak of the door opening, Liu Menglu stood there awkwardly. The person who opened the door was a gray-haired, elderly-looking woman.
Looking at the woman in front of her, Liu Menglu instinctively said, “Hello, Grandma. I’m here to see Lu Yuting. The homeroom teacher asked me to bring her some review materials and exam papers.”
The woman was stunned by Liu Menglu calling her “Grandma.” A look of sadness flashed in her eyes, then she opened her mouth with a kind smile. “Oh, I see. She caught a cold recently and has been staying in her room. That one over there.”
Liu Menglu nodded obediently. Her eyes scanned the surroundings. The house looked a bit worn out but was extremely clean. It seemed the owner was a very neat person.
The thought quickly passed. Liu Menglu took small steps toward the direction the woman had pointed.
When Liu Menglu reached Lu Yuting’s room, Lu Yuting’s door suddenly opened.
She was wearing a somewhat faded but clean blue pajama set, and her face held a look of impatience.
“Who told you to come to our house?”
Liu Menglu was surprised. She didn’t expect the girl who had been shy in front of her just two days ago to be so confrontational.
She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, feeling a little awkward. “The teacher asked me to bring you some exam papers, and also—”
“And I have a set of my own papers. I’ve highlighted some key points on them.”
Lu Yuting pursed her lips, snatched the papers, her expression stiff. “You’ve delivered the stuff. You can go now.”
Liu Menglu nodded, about to leave, but she heard the disapproving voice of the old woman from behind her.
“Yuting, don’t talk like that. Your friend came all this way to our house. The least you can do is have her stay for dinner.”
Liu Menglu immediately waved her hands. “No need to go to any trouble. I’ll just eat at home. I still have some homework to do.”
“Homework isn’t urgent. Don’t ruin your brain at such a young age.”
Liu Menglu awkwardly touched her head but still politely refused the kind woman’s offer.
“What, are you looking down on our family?” The girl’s sharp voice suddenly rang out, making Liu Menglu feel a moment of helplessness.
She was flustered and kept waving her hands. “No, I’m not…”
Liu Menglu’s words were cut off. The girl’s voice was irritable. “Mom, stop trying to convince her. A princess like her looks down on the food that commoners like us eat.”
Lu Yuting lowered her eyes, her thick eyelashes casting a dense shadow.
“Mom?” Liu Menglu was stunned. She looked at the elderly-looking woman in front of her, her face a bit red with embarrassment. After all, she had just called her “Grandma.”
Then, a thought of surprise flashed through Liu Menglu’s mind. This person was Lu Yuting’s mother.
She and Lu Yuting were the same age, so their mothers should be about the same age, too. So why was her own mother so young, and…
