Dark-colored Fairy Tale: Seven Magicians - Chapter 16
Chapter 16
Lu Yuting’s voice suddenly became small, and her face was flushed with shame and anger. “Don’t think that just because you saved me yesterday, I’ll thank you properly.”
Looking at the girl with a red face, Liu Menglu was a little confused. Her brother is dead, so why isn’t she sad?
Although it was a bit impolite, Liu Menglu was genuinely taken aback by Lu Yuting’s seemingly good mood. She cautiously asked, “Um, your brother…”
“My brother? When did I ever have a brother? Aren’t I an only child?” Lu Yuting looked at Liu Menglu with a puzzled expression.
Liu Menglu was a little dazed, then she gave a dry laugh and apologized awkwardly. “Sorry, I must have been mistaken.”
“Hmph.” Lu Yuting bit her lip slightly. A moment later, she took a small lunch box out of her bag.
Liu Menglu was first curious, then she saw Lu Yuting place the lunch box on her desk, her tone a little awkward. “I made an extra serving when I was making breakfast this morning. It’s for you.”
Liu Menglu blinked, a little preoccupied, and joked, “Are you being so nice to me?”
“Take it or leave it!” Lu Yuting, flustered and angry, tried to take the lunch box back, but Liu Menglu held it tightly in her arms.
“You’ve already given it away. There’s no reason to take it back. Let me see what delicious things are inside.”
With that, Liu Menglu opened the lunch box. Seeing the beautiful and fragrant breakfast, she couldn’t help but let out a whistle. “Wow, this looks really good! I’m sure it tastes even better.”
“Hmph.” Lu Yuting snorted again, but the corners of her mouth were slightly upturned. She then turned her attention back to the exam paper.
As Liu Menglu ate the truly delicious breakfast, a big question mark hovered in her mind.
Why don’t they remember Lu Yumo?
If Lu Yuting had been trying to change the subject to avoid a painful topic, Liu Menglu wouldn’t have thought too much about it. But the first person she asked was a third-year senior, and when she asked about Lu Yumo, the senior seemed genuinely clueless. She didn’t seem like she was silenced.
Is this what magic is?
Thinking this, Liu Menglu was exceptionally lively that day, so lively that Yang Shishi couldn’t take it anymore and began to complain, asking if she was trying to become Hermione. It was only then that Liu Menglu’s behavior returned to normal.
Of course, this was all on the surface. The excitement in her heart was a different story.
With this question in her mind, Liu Menglu’s mood was not at all calm throughout the day.
It wasn’t until she got home that she saw an unexpected person at the door.
“Why are you here?” Liu Menglu looked at the petite girl standing in her living room with surprise.
Chloe frowned. “You still remember me?”
“Why wouldn’t I remember you?” Liu Menglu was a little confused.
Chloe didn’t say anything and once again disappeared in front of Liu Menglu. This fleeting appearance made Liu Menglu even more confused.
She saw Chloe again three days later. Liu Menglu once again greeted her enthusiastically. Seeing this, Chloe’s expression became even more serious, and she disappeared for an even longer time.
Half a month later, she appeared in front of Liu Menglu again.
Seeing that Chloe wasn’t even trying to hide her true self anymore, Liu Menglu was overjoyed.
“We meet again. Don’t leave so casually this time,” Liu Menglu said, her eyes shining. But when she saw the look in Chloe’s dark golden eyes, her voice became a little hesitant, lacking confidence.
“If… if you want to leave, I won’t stop you. But can you at least tell me your name?”
With that, Liu Menglu felt a little wronged.
As a popular and privileged person at school, she had never been treated this way before. Although she was a little angry, in front of her favorite magical girl, she was more hurt than anything else.
It was a strange feeling, like, “I like you so much, so why won’t you even look at your fan?”
Looking at her pitiful sister, Chloe’s heart softened. And Liu Menglu’s situation was a little special. She needed to observe Liu Menglu for a few days until she found a way to make Liu Menglu forget her. Only then could she leave without worry.
With this thought, Chloe turned down the TV volume and said, “I saved you. So, providing me with a place to stay for a while shouldn’t be a problem, right?”
Of course, Liu Menglu wouldn’t refuse. As a magical girl fan, a real-life magical girl was now standing in front of her, asking to live with her. How could she refuse such a temptation?
Liu Menglu nodded continuously, just like a happy kitten. Her bright blue eyes twinkled, making her look absolutely adorable.
Seeing this, Chloe couldn’t help but smile, imitating the person in her memory. “Good girl, little sister.” Chloe nodded, a touch of softness appearing on her cold, witch-like face.
Liu Menglu was secretly giggling and didn’t even hear Chloe call her “little sister.” She just excitedly pulled Chloe into the living room.
Liu Menglu suddenly remembered something and said, “I purposely asked about Lu Yumo at school today. Why doesn’t anyone remember him?”
Chloe didn’t hide anything. She explained, “This is a protection from the world’s rules for ordinary people. Demons are too dangerous for you. This is also a way to prevent ordinary people from learning the conditions for turning into a demon, which reduces their appearance. It’s also the world’s way of healing. If humans don’t have contact with a magical being for a long time, their memory of them will be erased.”
Liu Menglu nodded, half-understanding. But thinking of herself, she asked, “Then why do I still remember you? Does this mean I can become a magical girl just like you?” At the end, Liu Menglu’s eyes were full of expectation.
Chloe saw Liu Menglu’s uncharacteristically soft and innocent expression. Her eyes warmed, but her tone was firm. “Don’t get your hopes up. The reason you remember me isn’t because you’re suited to be a magical girl. It’s because I’m always around you, so the world recognizes your continuous contact with me and doesn’t erase your memory.”
Hearing this, Liu Menglu couldn’t help but pout. So it wasn’t because of her special constitution, but because of an external factor.
Thinking this, Liu Menglu pouted. But she quickly dropped the topic and happily walked into the kitchen, determined to show off her skills. She had to please Chloe. Maybe in the future, she would have a chance.
Liu Menglu thought optimistically as she opened the refrigerator and chose a few ingredients.
After living alone for a few years, Liu Menglu’s cooking skills were naturally excellent. Chloe usually didn’t have much of an appetite, but when she saw the colorful and fragrant dishes on the table, she felt hungrier than usual.
Glancing at the satisfied-looking Chloe, Liu Menglu quietly reached out her hand…
