Dark-colored Fairy Tale: Seven Magicians - Chapter 24
Chapter 24
When Chloe arrived in the classroom, Liu Menglu was already sitting in her seat. Unlike her usual diligent self, Liu Menglu’s face was pale, and her eyes were blankly staring straight at the blackboard. This appearance made Chloe frown.
Yang Shishi wasn’t here today. Chloe looked around and set her eyes on Lu Yuting, the girl she had saved last time.
“Hi, what’s wrong with Liu Menglu?”
Chloe’s sudden question surprised Lu Yuting, but she answered truthfully.
“I don’t know. She’s been like this ever since she asked me if I had a brother.”
Hearing this, Chloe nodded. After a quick thanks, she sat down softly next to Liu Menglu, placing the packed breakfast in front of her.
Liu Menglu had noticed Chloe when she entered the classroom. Now, seeing Chloe sit next to her, she couldn’t help but clench her fists. Her tender white fingertips even trembled slightly from the effort.
Chloe didn’t stop her. She just watched her quietly, waiting for her to speak.
But even when the bell rang for class, Liu Menglu didn’t ask any questions.
This continued until lunchtime. Today, Liu Menglu rejected all invitations from her classmates. She pulled Chloe and went alone to the balcony. Looking at the empty balcony, Liu Menglu stared blankly into the distance and suddenly spoke.
“Was Lu Yuting’s brother erased from the world, just like you said last time?”
“You already know the answer.” Chloe’s voice was cruel, directly tearing away the facade of peace.
Liu Menglu’s body trembled. She wanted to say something, but Chloe stopped her first. Her eyes were fixed on Liu Menglu.
“Can you tell the difference now?”
“Tell the difference between what?”
“There’s a huge difference between reality and fantasy.” Chloe stood at the edge of the balcony, her hand gripping the railing, and looked quietly at the distant sky.
Although the sun was shining brightly, Chloe only saw the dark shadows under the buildings in the distance.
Liu Menglu didn’t say anything for a long time. Chloe also remained silent, looking into the distance.
Maybe I should go back soon. Just like that person said, magical beings and humans are different.
They might become friends, but when ordinary people find out about the cruelty of the magical being world, they will all choose to stay away.
The sun in the sky was still brilliant. The distant birds chattered, sprinkling joy onto the earth.
The balcony where Liu Menglu and Chloe were standing seemed to reject everything else. The air was filled with a suffocating heaviness and silence.
After what seemed like a long time, Chloe felt as if the sun in the sky was no longer as hot as it had been. The chestnut-haired girl spoke. “Can I become a magical being?”
Chloe was stunned. Her voice was hoarse. “I thought you had clearly realized the difference between reality and fantasy, and the difference between a magical girl and a magical being.”
Liu Menglu hummed in agreement. Looking at the bustling street in the distance, her blue eyes were full of gentleness. “I know. But I still really want to become a magical being and fight side-by-side with you.”
“Fight side-by-side with me?” Chloe was stunned. She turned her head abruptly and saw the girl standing in the sunlight. The wind blew through her hair. With a very brilliant smile, she confirmed, “Yes, I want to fight side-by-side with you.”
Chloe didn’t say anything. She stood there quietly, looking at the girl who seemed to be glowing with a golden light. She stood there for a long, long time.
Finally, Chloe spoke. Her voice was trembling, with a hint of unnaturalness.
“Although I really want to fight side-by-side with you, you don’t have the qualifications to become a magical being.”
Liu Menglu was surprised. “Does it require qualifications to become a magical being?”
Chloe nodded. Having never lied before, she felt her ears burn, but she still pretended to be calm and continued, “Yes, becoming a magical being requires a special talent, and you don’t have it.”
“Then I can’t fight side-by-side with you,” Liu Menglu pouted with a sense of grievance, her face filled with disappointment.
Chloe, for a rare moment, showed a hint of a smile. She held up the lunch and waved it in front of Liu Menglu.
“Hurry and eat lunch, or you’ll be hungry during class later.”
Liu Menglu first sighed. She sadly opened the lunch box.
The lunch was something Liu Menglu had prepared early. Chloe didn’t know what was in the bento box, but when she opened it, she found that besides the delicious steak she had praised yesterday, there were two small octopus sausages.
The little octopus sausages had beautiful smiley faces drawn on them with who-knows-what, and they looked incredibly cute.
Looking at the cute and thoughtful bento, Chloe suddenly felt a pang of guilt.
But she quickly pushed the guilt out of her mind. She would never allow Liu Menglu to become a magical being. The bloodshed and darkness of that path should be borne by her alone.
A younger sister is meant to be protected!
Seeing Chloe stare blankly at the bento box, Liu Menglu thought Chloe was attracted by the exquisite design. She couldn’t help but feel a little proud.
Her gloomy mood instantly lifted. The girl’s eyes glowed with a golden light. She leaned in toward Chloe, her smile brilliant.
“I remember you told me that your magical being organization has a logistics department. Since my cooking is so good, how about I join your logistics department and provide you with three meals a day?”
Chloe was stunned by the request. The corners of her usually tightly pursed lips suddenly turned up into a very faint smile.
Although it was very subtle, Liu Menglu, who had been paying attention to Chloe, saw it. At that moment, she felt like she had discovered a new continent and let out a little cheer.
“Chloe, you smiled! You actually smiled! My cooking truly is the best in the world.”
Liu Menglu was triumphant. The joy in her voice seemed to be contagious, making Chloe’s already good mood even better.
“Is my smile that rare?”
“What do you think? We’ve been together for so long, and you’ve only smiled this once! Of course it’s rare.” Liu Menglu complained as she moved her smiley octopus sausage from her bento to Chloe’s.
Looking at the smiling little octopus sausage that had suddenly appeared in her bento, Chloe’s eyes curved. “Then I’ll smile more often in the future.”
“Okay!” Liu Menglu excitedly agreed. She suddenly remembered something and stared at Chloe with a very serious tone. “Even though you’re going to smile more often, you can only smile at me. Understood?”
Chloe’s brows slightly furrowed. Why only at her?
However, Chloe didn’t dwell on it. Her reason for coming to this school was for Liu Menglu. Smiling only for her wasn’t an unreasonable request. It was easy to agree to.
