Dark-colored Fairy Tale: Seven Magicians - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
If it weren’t for her, how could she have been so slow at the start?
With that thought, Lu Yuting felt she had found a good reason to dislike Liu Menglu and grumbled a few more times. In that brief moment of distraction, she fell far behind everyone else.
At this point, Lu Yuting didn’t dare to get distracted again. She looked at the girls who were sprinting forward and, ignoring the fact that long-distance running requires conserving energy, she quickly moved her legs and ran to the front.
Sprinting at top speed was a waste of energy and a foolish move, but it was effective in getting her past the other girls. However, Lu Yuting’s goal had never been them, but Liu Menglu, who was far ahead.
No matter how hard she tried, Liu Menglu was like a massive mountain pressing down on her heart. No matter how she pushed herself, how she squeezed out the last bit of her strength, she could never, ever catch up to the girl who was like the sun.
Gradually, Lu Yuting’s eyes grew hazy. Her legs felt as heavy as lead. She was unwilling to give up, but her stamina had been completely exhausted. Now, no matter how hard she tried, her speed wouldn’t increase even a little.
Liu Menglu’s stamina was superior to everyone else’s. She quickly lapped everyone on the track. When she came up to Lu Yuting, who was mechanically moving her legs, she couldn’t help but ask with concern, “Lu Yuting, are you okay? If you can’t go on, you should go rest.”
With that, Liu Menglu slowed her pace, running beside her and waiting for an answer.
Lu Yuting’s answer was quick, but her voice was very breathless. “I refuse! Don’t pretend to be kind.”
The unusually weak voice made Liu Menglu frown. Although Lu Yuting had never gotten along with her, Liu Menglu was not the kind of person to “stand by and watch.”
She frowned and confirmed again, “Are you sure you don’t need to rest?”
“I said I don’t need your phony kindness! Get lost!” Lu Yuting snapped impatiently, her eyes filled with disgust.
Liu Menglu pursed her lips, sped up, and rushed forward. She ran very fast; even after running 1300 meters, she still had energy left.
Just as she was about to cross the red finish line her classmates had prepared for the winner, her heart suddenly skipped a beat, and she instinctively looked in the direction of the UK.
Then, without any warning, a single tear rolled from the corner of her eye down her cheek.
Her classmates didn’t see it. They only saw a dazed Liu Menglu. A student loudly reminded her, and Liu Menglu quickly crossed the finish line. Instantly, the sports field erupted in loud cheers.
As she sat down to rest, Liu Menglu touched the tear on her cheek, feeling puzzled. What just happened to me?
“I want to see my sister!” a cold yet stubborn voice rang out in the alley in the UK.
Mist looked at the petite Chloe in front of her, feeling a headache.
“Chloe, you’ve lived in Farlon since you were a child. Where would you get a sister? This belief you have now is just a backlash from the sacrifice. Calm down and come back with me.”
“No.” Chloe’s dark golden eyes were filled with stubbornness. “I want to see my sister.”
“I’ll say it again, you don’t have a sister!” Mist repeated with a face of utter defeat, as if a dog had run her over.
“I do. She’s in Huaxia. And my sister is very outstanding. I’m proud of her,” Chloe insisted stubbornly, not budging an inch.
“Are you trying to pick a fight?” Mist was getting annoyed by this argument with Chloe. She took out the “One-Eyed Princess’s Tear” and her tone lifted slightly.
Chloe was silent for a moment, then took out the ancient offering, “Merlin.”
Mist: “…”
“Dad, I was wrong… I wasn’t wrong!” Mist instantly chickened out.
Just then, her phone rang. It was the boss!
The rain had stopped, the sun was out, and Mist was back in business!!!
“The boss is calling, so you’d better be a good girl, Chloe!” Mist shook her phone triumphantly, a hint of challenge on her face.
She answered the call, her usually calm voice now a little playful. “Hello, Boss, what’s up?”
“Come back for a meeting once you’ve dealt with that monster.” A low, elegant female voice responded. Mist immediately nodded obediently, but her tone was a bit hesitant, even containing a hint of grievance.
“But—Boss, Chloe’s backlash seems to be a bit serious this time. She keeps wanting to go to Huaxia to see her imaginary sister. When I wouldn’t let her, she even took out an ancient offering to threaten me.”
“What happened?” The woman sounded a little hesitant. This demon wasn’t particularly powerful, so why would it cause a backlash for Chloe?
“I don’t know either.” Mist genuinely had no idea. Chloe had never had such a severe backlash before.
No one knew the exact cause of a backlash. They only knew that after a mage defeated a demon, the demon would revert to a human. The mage then had to choose to either sacrifice or redeem them.
Otherwise, these people would turn back into demons and wreak havoc on the world.
Under normal circumstances, mages would choose to sacrifice them, which meant killing their souls and making them completely disappear. However, it was rumored that completely erasing a person’s soul went against the laws of the universe, so they had to pay a corresponding price.
The souls that didn’t completely disappear would latch onto the mage, and those souls and memories would interfere with the mage from time to time. In severe cases, it could even make the mage unable to distinguish their own memories from others’.
Chloe’s belief that she had a sister now was likely the result of the memory of that Asian male interfering with her.
The woman on the other end of the phone was silent for a moment, then said, “Hand the phone to her.”
Mist did as she was told. Chloe took the phone, her cold little face showing no emotion.
“You want to go to Huaxia to see your sister?” The woman’s voice was calm and soothing.
Chloe nodded silently, then “Mhm.”
The woman asked again, “Those memories are all fake.”
Chloe was just silent for a long time, not speaking.
After a long while, the woman on the other side finally sighed and gave in.
“Alright. Since you’re so insistent, I’ll allow you to go there to see your sister. But you must remember not to cause any trouble there.”
Chloe’s eyes suddenly lit up. Her formerly dull, dark-gold eyes shone brightly, like a flowing river of stars.
The phone was back in Mist’s hands. The woman said, “Okay, you don’t have to worry about her. Come back for the meeting. We have a lot more to do.” With that, a dial tone sounded on the phone.
Mist looked at the words “Call Ended” and then at the icy Chloe. A sudden smile, careless but tinged with deep envy, spread across her face. “Looks like those who are favored truly have nothing to fear!”
