Dark-colored Fairy Tale: Seven Magicians - Chapter 42
Chapter 42
“Oof.”
Liu Menglu was pulled sharply by Chloe and crashed right into her chest. Others might have had some padding. Unfortunately, someone who weighed less than a hundred pounds was flat-chested~ This made it miserable for Liu Menglu, who bumped her nose until it was sore and her eyes turned red.
However, neither of the two people confronting each other noticed.
Li Qiuyu’s original purpose was for Chloe. To her, Liu Menglu was just an extra. Her previous actions were a sudden emotional reaction, bringing back some of her few memories. Her action was also a test. She was testing how important the girl in front of her was to Chloe.
Now it seemed she was extremely important. So, it appeared that this surveillance mission had a very important breakthrough. Li Qiuyu remained outwardly calm, but she had multiple plans in her mind.
Chloe was different from Li Qiuyu. At this moment, her eyes were slightly narrowed, and her dark golden eyes were deep, like a feline that had been invaded in its territory, letting out a low growl to warn the enemy to leave.
Unfortunately, if it were anyone else, they might have been scared away by Chloe’s posture. But Li Qiuyu, also a host of one of the seven ancient sacrifices, remained calm and composed, still kneeling without rushing.
“Mengmeng, you’re not allowed to get too close to her.”
Because Liu Menglu was being held in Chloe’s arms, she could feel the vibration in Chloe’s chest and the undeniable tone in her voice.
Liu Menglu was a little confused and was about to ask when Li Qiuyu spoke first.
“You might not know, but Chloe is a magical being from Fayalon. Her visit this time is an illegal invasion and must have some ulterior motive. It’s better for you to stay away from her.”
After saying that, Li Qiuyu felt the words weren’t strong enough, so she added another line to scare her.
“The classmate next to you may seem harmless, but she has actually killed many people.”
“Have you not killed anyone?” Chloe retorted, a hint of hostility in her voice. She had not intended to bother with these people; being monitored in China was normal. However, she could tolerate surveillance but not this kind of provocation.
Liu Menglu was her favorite sister. She would never allow anyone to cause a rift between them. Actually, the old Chloe wouldn’t have cared about these people, but the Chloe who was bluffed into being lazy and deliberately embracing the seven deadly sins said, “You better watch me.”
After all, Chloe, who watches TV when she has nothing to do, has recently had some success. The melodramatic in-law dramas may not have any substance, but they are great for learning how to argue.
Li Qiuyu either didn’t hear the hostility in Chloe’s voice or pretended not to. She admitted very generously and naturally, “I have, of course, and many.”
Li Qiuyu never shied away from this question. In her view, eliminating those who turned into demons was not a strange or sinful thing.
However, that was how it was for them, the magical beings.
Liu Menglu was a normal person. Could she handle such a shock? Or, did she truly have no negative feelings about this in her heart?
Chloe’s pink lips pursed into a straight line, turning slightly white from the force. She fixed her gaze on the face of the person in her arms, a look of unprecedented panic appearing in her heart.
She knew Liu Menglu’s past—it was clean and pure. For ordinary people, they might not care about the distinction between demons and humans. What they cared about was—”You’re killing humans.”
Because of this, Chloe didn’t want to expose that truth; she didn’t want to be disliked by Liu Menglu. Even though they had talked about it before, Chloe would now avoid the topic whenever possible. Otherwise, how could Chloe, as a magical being, spend her nights idling instead of hunting demons everywhere?
Compared to Chloe’s worry, Liu Menglu, who was being held, was much calmer. In fact, Liu Menglu had always known these things. After all, she had personally witnessed the demise of Lu Yumo.
Perhaps out of human instinct and her love for magical girls, she had always ignored this. It wasn’t until today, when Li Qiuyu once again used such a blunt and cruel language to uncover the source of her inner fear and avoidance, that she realized she wasn’t as terrified as she had thought.
Liu Menglu had always heard people jokingly say that there was no black and white in this world, only shades of gray. She had laughed back then, saying that gray wasn’t so common.
It was only now that she truly began to think about it.
Was it wrong for magical beings to eliminate demons? It wasn’t. Although it made those people disappear from this world forever, they did indeed make this world peaceful.
Did those people have desires? Was that wrong? Not really. Everyone had desires. It was just that their desires were stained with demonic energy and turned them into harmful demons.
This was Liu Menglu’s understanding. It might be very superficial, but it was enough for her to distinguish right from wrong and to defend her friend.
The girl who usually smiled like a small sun was now cold-faced, and her words were indifferent for the first time.
“Of course, I know that. But I need to correct you on one point. Chloe doesn’t kill people; she kills demons. What she does is not for her own selfishness, but to save more people.”
“If you came here just to insult my friend, I would like to ask you to leave. You are not welcome here.”
“Mengmeng.” Chloe stared at Liu Menglu. Her dark golden eyes were suddenly filled with starlight, sparkling and especially beautiful.
Liu Menglu hugged Chloe to ease Chloe’s anxiety.
Hearing this unexpected answer, Li Qiuyu was suddenly in a daze. She vaguely remembered a memory of someone who stood by her unconditionally. What happened to that person later? It seemed like they had gone to heaven…
Li Qiuyu’s momentary silence made the tense atmosphere between the two sides freeze.
Liu Menglu hated this kind of atmosphere the most. She quietly nudged Chloe’s arm and asked softly, “She knows your identity. Is she a magical being too?”
Chloe nodded, holding Liu Menglu even tighter. She had heard everything Liu Menglu said and could feel her deep care. She was now very content, like a well-behaved cat that had been petted. She ate her bento box in small bites.
Liu Menglu was a little bit panicked. Liu Menglu was a very smart girl. Thinking about Li Qiuyu’s attitude and the fact that Chloe was from another country, she guessed that this person had come to take Chloe away. She admitted she was panicked. She couldn’t bear to be separated from Chloe.
So, the girl who had just argued with Li Qiuyu was now thinking of what to say to ease the atmosphere.
As a result, she blurted out, “So you’re a magical being too.”
After saying that, Liu Menglu regretted it a little. What a stupid question. Wasn’t it obvious? Why didn’t I use a classic Chinese greeting, like “Have you eaten today?” to say hello?
The sudden question broke the silence on the balcony and made Li Qiuyu snap back to reality. She was a little confused. What was going on with the girl in front of her?
Even the family members of magical beings rarely showed this kind of full support. Liu Menglu and Chloe weren’t even related by bl00d. Why would Liu Menglu defend her like this? Could it be that Chloe had brainwashed her?
As this thought emerged, Li Qiuyu looked at Chloe with more caution. This unstable factor should indeed be quickly isolated from ordinary people.
As for the rest, Li Qiuyu looked at Liu Menglu, who was being held tightly by Chloe, and a flicker of emotion appeared in her eyes.
How could she have any ulterior motive…
