Dark-colored Fairy Tale: Seven Magicians - Chapter 7
Chapter 7
“Get out! Don’t embarrass yourself here.” He waved his hand, as if he were shooing away a piece of trash.
A powerful sense of humiliation erupted in Lu Yuting’s heart.
Why?
Liu Menglu! Why?!
Why is everyone so nice to you?
Why does everyone like you?
Why?!!
Why—all those things aren’t mine. So, I hate you. One day, sooner or later, I will trample you under my feet!
“Ah-choo!” Walking on her way home, Liu Menglu inexplicably rubbed her nose. Has the temperature dropped recently? I guess I need to wear a few more layers.
…
The next day, as soon as Liu Menglu walked into the classroom, she saw Yang Shishi sitting on her chair with a dejected face, mumbling in frustration.
Liu Menglu approached her curiously and asked, “What’s wrong?”
“Mengmeng, did you know we have a surprise exam today?” Yang Shishi wailed as if the sky was about to fall.
Liu Menglu was also taken aback. “What?! There’s an exam today? I’m done for. I didn’t review either.”
Hearing the two of them, Lu Yuting’s eyes instantly lit up. She saw the genuine look of regret on Liu Menglu’s face and thought about how she had reviewed until midnight last night. The tiredness she had felt moments ago was instantly replaced by a surge of energy.
“Today, I will definitely beat you in our grades!” Lu Yuting secretly swore to herself.
When the teacher walked into the classroom with the exam papers, Lu Yuting gave Liu Menglu a malicious look. Seeing that she was indeed still frowning, Lu Yuting couldn’t help but smile happily. Seeing the familiar questions on the exam, she felt a burst of inspiration, her pen flying across the paper as if possessed.
The exam went exceptionally smoothly. After she finished writing everything, she checked the time and saw that she still had 15 minutes left. Lu Yuting raised her eyebrow smugly, glanced at the deep-in-thought Liu Menglu, and couldn’t help but curl her lips, wanting to provoke her.
But remembering the 20,000-word apology from a few days ago, Lu Yuting deflated like a punctured ball, sitting obediently with her cheeks puffed out, muttering something to herself.
Because the exam was an English one, the teacher finished grading it quickly. By the afternoon, the papers had already been handed out.
Lu Yuting watched as the class representative distributed the papers. Her hands trembled with nervousness. When the crisp, white paper with a bright red score landed in front of her, Lu Yuting couldn’t wait to see the bold 94. She couldn’t help but cheer.
Just as she was about to take her paper to gloat to Liu Menglu, she heard Yang Shishi’s weak voice.
“Mengmeng, what did you get this time?”
Liu Menglu was clearly in a bad mood, her face clouded with sorrow. Lu Yuting swallowed, her eyes fixed on Liu Menglu like glowing light bulbs.
When those pink lips parted and gave the score, Lu Yuting was petrified…
Liu Menglu: “I didn’t review last night, and as expected, I didn’t do well. I only got 98.”
Yang Shishi glanced at her own 78 and let out a cold laugh. She swore she would never talk to this “study bully” again in her life!
Seeing her friend get angry, Liu Menglu quickly tried to soothe her. “Come on, don’t be mad. Next time, I’ll study with you.”
“Really?”
“Of course. Why would I lie to my best friend?” Liu Menglu smiled and put her arm around her friend’s shoulder, comforting her fuming companion.
Seeing her still “Hmph!” and not quite over it, she added, “How about I treat you to a week’s worth of jianbing guozi?”
“You, a goddess, eat jianbing guozi?”
“What? Don’t goddesses need to use the bathroom?” Liu Menglu blinked, her playful and adorable look once again drawing them closer.
“Tch.” Lu Yuting stuffed her paper directly into her bag. Still unwilling to accept it, she looked at the grade on Liu Menglu’s paper, gritted her teeth, and turned to leave.
The last class of the afternoon was Physical Education, which was with Class 3 of the third year—and it was Liu Menglu’s least favorite class, period.
Because—
“Hello, Liu. What a coincidence to see you again.” Lu Yumo approached Liu Menglu, dribbling a basketball in his hand, a hearty smile on his handsome face.
Liu Menglu gave a lukewarm response. She pulled Yang Shishi along and gave Lu Yumo an apologetic smile. “I’m sorry, I have something to do in the classroom. I’ll go ahead.”
Lu Yumo, who had been about to invite her to play basketball, froze in place. But he quickly regained his easygoing demeanor.
“No problem, Liu. Go ahead and take care of your business. I hope to see you again next time.”
Liu Menglu nodded, her expression cool, and walked toward the school building.
But when they entered the classroom together, Liu Menglu looked at her slightly messy desk and pursed her lips in annoyance.
Looking at the clearly disturbed books, Yang Shishi was furious.
“Who was it? Who went through your stuff! Check if anything is missing!”
Liu Menglu nodded, carefully reorganizing all her books. She also checked her valuables and found that nothing was missing except for the mess on her desk. She sighed in relief, but also felt puzzled. It shouldn’t have been anyone with malicious intent; otherwise, her monthly allowance wouldn’t still be safely in her wallet.
Because of this, she didn’t want to overthink the situation and tried to comfort Yang Shishi. “Maybe a classmate wanted to see if I had the day’s homework.”
“Impossible! Someone definitely wanted to steal something from you.”
While Yang Shishi was usually gentle, it didn’t mean she was stupid. If they just wanted to see if she had the day’s homework, why wouldn’t they just ask her face-to-face? Why would they go through her desk?
She absolutely could not tolerate this invasion of privacy!
“Come on, let’s go tell the teacher!” Yang Shishi grabbed Liu Menglu’s hand to leave, but Liu Menglu held her back.
Looking at her angry friend, Liu Menglu sighed, trying to calm her down and buy some time. “Shishi, we don’t have solid evidence right now. Telling the teacher would just spook them. Why don’t we try to catch them red-handed?”
Yang Shishi looked at Liu Menglu suspiciously. “Are you just trying to delay?”
Liu Menglu, of course, couldn’t admit it. She gave a dry laugh. “Of course not. I also hate it when people invade my privacy. I’m doing this so we can catch them in the act.”
Yang Shishi narrowed her eyes, studying Liu Menglu. Seeing the serious look on her friend’s face, she nodded. “Okay, you’ve thought this through better than me. In that case, I’ll ask if anyone was a witness.”
Liu Menglu looked at her, puzzled, and then watched as Yang Shishi took out her phone and sent a mass text to their class group.
