Dark Night at Tang Palace - Chapter 6
Song Xuance knew that to infiltrate this organization, he had to find an opening. After days of surveillance and investigation, he set his sights on a target: a woman codenamed “White Feather,” a member of the “Shadow Unit ” skilled in disguise and assassination.
That night, dressed in disguise, Song Xuance went to a tavern in the city called “Drunken Moon Pavilion.” While the tavern appeared to be an ordinary place for drinking and dining, he knew it was a secret meeting point for the “Dark Shadow Organization.”
As soon as Song Xuance entered the tavern, he saw a woman in a light green dress sitting alone by the window. Her brows were like painted pictures, but there was a cold aura about her. That woman was “White Feather.”
Song Xuance sat opposite her and smiled slightly, “Miss, may I offer you a drink?”
White Feather raised her eyelids and gave him a cold look, “I don’t know you.”
“You don’t know me, but I know you,” Song Xuance said softly. “You’re White Feather of the ‘Shadow Department’, and I’m your new companion—’Black Snake’.”
Song Xuance remained calm and said softly, “I’m here on orders from above to do cleaning.” He raised his head slightly, a fierce look flashing in his eyes, “Your mission had failed, and you’ve been targeted by the court, but you don’t even know it. Do you think I’m here to deceive you?”
Upon hearing this, White Feather hesitated. She asked in a low voice, “What’s your proof?”
Song Xuance took a black token from inside his robe, on which was engraved a strange symbol. When White Feather saw the symbol, her face changed drastically: “This is… the ‘Dark Shadow Token’! Are you really sent by the higher-ups?”
Song Xuance sneered, “Do you think I dare to impersonate a member of the ‘Shadow Unit’?”
White Feather stared intently into his eyes, as if trying to find a flaw. However, Song Xuance’s expression remained composed, as if everything was under his control. After a moment, she finally nodded slowly, “Fine, I believe you. But what mission are you here to execute?”
Song Xuance lowered his voice, “The higher-ups suspect that there’s a leak within your ranks, and they’ve sent me to investigate. Your every move these past few days has been under my surveillance.”
White Feather’s face changed slightly, and then she sneered, “Black Snake, it seems I’ve underestimated you. But I’m not that easy to deal with.”
Song Xuance felt a sense of relief. He knew he had gambled right. Now, the most important thing was to continue gaining her trust. So, he smiled faintly, “Likewise. Right now, we should cooperate. If you have any news, be sure to tell me immediately.”
White Feather said coldly, “Fine, but if you dare betray me, I’ll make you pay a painful price.”
Song Xuance smiled slightly, “Likewise.”
Thus, the two formed a fragile alliance, but Song Xuance knew that the danger had only just begun.
Through White Feather’s connections, Song Xuance gradually came into contact with other members of the “Shadow Unit”. These people were all highly skilled and ruthless, but they were extraordinarily loyal to the orders of the higher-ups even willing to die for them. Song Xuance became increasingly puzzled: what kind of force could make these cold-blooded killers so willingly to serve?
That night, Song Xuance met with White Feather at a hidden residence in the city. White Feather told him that there was an important mission coming up—to assassinate the Prime Minister Li Bi.
