Deceased Mother's Inheritance - Chapter 14
Chapter 14: Twisted Love
The dreams were absurd. Yun Zhixue had them for two consecutive nights.
The weather grew hotter. Yun Zhixue was no longer as anxious as before. Sometimes, when Chi Ruishou talked to her, she would respond with a couple of sentences.
On Friday, Yun Zhixue was tidying her desk. The drawer, which had once been maliciously filled with trash, now held every book neatly stacked as if measured by a vernier caliper. She sat up straight in class, and even the action of flipping pages was as precise as a mechanical instrument.
Her phone in the drawer vibrated slightly. Her heart pounded as wildly as the cicadas buzzing all day long.
Meng Zhengyue: “Downstairs.”
Yun Zhixue ran downstairs, and at a glance, she spotted that familiar figure.
Meng Zhengyue was wearing a black suit. A belt accentuated her slender waist. Her long fingers held a fluffy bunny marshmallow. She smiled and held it up.
The pink-cheeked, floppy-eared bunny was endearingly clumsy, its head bowed shyly. Yun Zhixue stopped in front of Meng Zhengyue, out of breath, with a fine sweat on her forehead.
“Did you miss me?” A smile bloomed on Meng Zhengyue’s lips as she held the marshmallow out to her.
Yun Zhixue’s face was red, and she nodded vigorously. Meng Zhengyue took her school bag. The two of them walked along the corridor toward the school gate. Yun Zhixue was reluctant to eat the marshmallow but couldn’t resist the temptation. She took a bite of the bunny’s ear. The cotton-like sweet melted gently. It was so sweet.
Meng Zhengyue opened the car door for her. As Yun Zhixue bent to get in, her peripheral vision caught a glimpse of the person in the passenger seat. Yun Jing looked up at her coldly.
Yun Zhixue had always sat in the back, and she had never thought about the front passenger seat. But at this moment, looking at that occupied spot, a strange pang of sourness swelled in her chest. She felt uncomfortable.
The car started. Yun Jing’s voice was chilly. “What’s wrong with your grades?”
Yun Zhixue didn’t hear her clearly. Her mind was briefly confused. A certain unprecedented impulse was clamoring, “I want that seat! I want it now!”
“You left out two major questions.” Yun Jing’s voice was impatient and oppressive. She looked directly at Yun Zhixue through the rearview mirror. “Look at me!”
Yun Zhixue finally came back to her senses and met her gaze. Yun Jing, who had held a high position for a long time, detected the hostility. Her voice grew colder. “How do you plan to catch up? Mock test scores also count as evaluation points. Did you not know how to write them, or did you not have enough time?”
“I didn’t have enough time,” Yun Zhixue answered stiffly.
“Why didn’t you have enough time?” Yun Jing pressed on relentlessly. “What were you thinking about?”
Thinking about what?
Yun Zhixue looked up, and her eyes met Meng Zhengyue’s in the rearview mirror.
She was thinking about the warmth of her fingertips and whether she would also discipline her so strictly.
“I just… got distracted.” Tears fell without warning. Yun Zhixue felt humiliated. “I can write them. I punished myself by writing them many times…”
“That’s enough.”
Meng Zhengyue looked at Yun Jing, her brows furrowed. “It’s just a test. She can catch up later. It’s not like she can’t write them.”
Yun Jing’s expression was grim. “I’m disciplining her.”
“What she needs now is care. Don’t you see that her mental state isn’t good?” Meng Zhengyue said. “You’re failing in your duty.”
“Failing in my duty?” Yun Jing sneered. “If I were failing in my duty, would I have rushed back immediately?”
“What would you have done if you had received the call at that time?”
Yun Jing didn’t speak. Her face was tense, and she was angry.
Tears still hung on Yun Zhixue’s face, but a twisted pleasure surged in her heart. So, she cried again, tears streaming down her face.
Meng Zhengyue became even angrier. She hit the steering wheel hard. “Get out of the car.”
Meng Zhengyue didn’t want to argue in front of the child. She walked away before talking to Yun Jing. Both of them were a little emotional.
So tears were useful.
An indescribable feeling made Yun Zhixue’s body feel hot. She glanced at the passenger seat in front. Although Yun Jing was sitting in her spot, she would soon be in the front. She definitely would…
After the two of them finished arguing and came back, Yun Jing opened the passenger door. Yun Zhixue sat there. Meng Zhengyue was stunned for a moment. Yun Zhixue said with red eyes, “…Don’t argue anymore. I’ll sit here.”
Yun Jing moved to the back. Meng Zhengyue went to the driver’s seat.
When they were at a red light, Yun Zhixue quickly tore off a piece of marshmallow and put it to Meng Zhengyue’s lips. Meng Zhengyue lowered her head and ate it. The marshmallow melted and stuck to her fingertips.
Yun Zhixue glanced at the back seat. Yun Jing’s face was truly unpleasant. Yun Zhixue quickly tore off another piece, put it in her mouth, and secretly licked her fingers. This was the sweetest part.
The car stopped at the hospital entrance.
Du Mingxiao’s father and Yun Jing had a working relationship. Because of this connection, the two families needed to meet.
Before getting out of the car, Meng Zhengyue changed into a pair of heels, making her look even taller than Yun Jing. Yun Zhixue stared at her shadow on the ground, thinking angrily that when she grew up, she would find a way to kill Du Mingxiao.
Meng Zhengyue didn’t get out on the first floor but pressed the button for the fifth floor.
At this moment, she heard the broadcast: “Yun Zhixue, please go to consultation room XX for a consultation.”
She was stunned.
Meng Zhengyue held her wrist and led her into the consultation room. Meng Zhengyue took out a medical record from her handbag. “Follow-up consultation for the appendicitis surgery on the 8th.”
The doctor checked her wound and said it was healing well. He also asked how she was taking the medicine. Meng Zhengyue answered each question and then said, “The wound is always itchy. Is there anything that can relieve it?”
“That’s normal. It’s not recommended for children to take too much medication. It can affect their physical development.”
Yun Zhixue glanced at the doctor’s name tag: Pediatrics.
Pediatrics?
PEDIATRICS!!!!
Yun Zhixue said softly, “I’m an adult.”
The doctor and Meng Zhengyue didn’t seem to hear her and continued to talk about the condition. When Meng Zhengyue led her out, she reiterated, “That was pediatrics.”
Meng Zhengyue said, “A pediatrician is more suitable for you. They’re gentle and meticulous. The last one just removed your stitches.” She was still bothered by it. Her tone was heavy. “Irresponsible.”
Yun Zhixue said, “Oh.”
“What’s wrong with pediatrics? Does my baby look down on pediatrics?” Meng Zhengyue stared at her. The last word, “baby,” was something she said on purpose, knowing Yun Zhixue was embarrassed and wanting to make her more so.
“Why are you so bothered by pediatrics?”
Yun Zhixue’s face was red with shame. Her voice was strained. “I’m 18. I’m an adult. Adults don’t need to see a pediatrician.”
Meng Zhengyue couldn’t help but pinch her face. “How can you be so cute?”
Yun Zhixue was even more ashamed. She wanted to lower her head, but because Meng Zhengyue wanted to pinch her, she stiffened her neck and let her play. Meng Zhengyue’s fingers were hot from her face.
Meng Zhengyue then took her to another consultation room—psychiatry.
Meng Zhengyue took her inside and took out a video of Yun Zhixue gnawing on her fingers. Yun Zhixue’s heart immediately panicked. Her eyes widened in fear. Why did she record it? Did she find out she was a pervert?
After asking for her basic information, the doctor asked Meng Zhengyue to wait outside. The doctor spoke softly and gently, coaxing Yun Zhixue to say what was bothering her.
It was just the doctor and her assistant in the consultation room. Yun Zhixue’s eyes occasionally drifted outside. Her fingers were pinched until they were red. The doctor tried to help her stretch her fingers, but she pulled back. When she saw Meng Zhengyue answering a call, she was afraid she would leave and finally spoke, “I keep thinking about her. I want to hug her. I want her to hug me. I only bite my fingers… I don’t want to do anything to her. I know I can’t.”
“Who is she?”
“My mommy.”
“That’s normal. You’re a child. It’s normal to want to be close to your mother.”
Yun Zhixue was shocked. “Really?”
“It’s normal. She’s your mommy. There’s nothing wrong with that.” The doctor gently told her that it was normal for a daughter to want to build an intimate relationship with her mother and that she shouldn’t feel pressured.
After Yun Zhixue came out of the consultation room, Meng Zhengyue was called in. The doctor said with a serious expression, “Is her relationship with her mother that twisted? She feels a strong sense of moral shame when she’s in contact with her mother. The oral fixation behavior caused by a lack of a sense of security is obvious. She even longs for breastfeeding to get comfort. She only dared to face her feelings after I repeatedly emphasized that this is a normal need.” The doctor’s tone was accusatory. “How could a mother-daughter relationship deteriorate to this extent? She even corrected me, saying that this is wrong. What kind of value education is that?”
Meng Zhengyue was scolded. When she came out, she faced Yun Zhixue, who was pinching the hem of her clothes. She took a deep breath, slightly curled her lips, and forced a smile.
She rubbed Yun Zhixue’s hair. “Nothing’s a big problem. Listen to the doctor.”
The doctor suggested they check her trace elements. They had to wait for the results.
Yun Zhixue sat quietly. Meng Zhengyue held the paper and left.
…
They entered the hospital room.
Meng Zhengyue had a smile on her face and said politely, “I’m so sorry we’re late. I took the child for a check-up. The situation is a little serious. I wonder how Mr. Du plans to compensate us?”
Mr. Du’s face was about to break. They were the ones who were beaten, and now they had to compensate?
Du’s mother looked at Yun Jing, who had arrived early. “Where’s your daughter? We need to talk about this face-to-face. The police have been investigating lately. To be honest, I think there’s a misunderstanding. After all, how could they not find the video of my son being beaten?”
Yun Jing sat quietly, letting them talk.
Meng Zhengyue: “We also found a lawyer in the past few days. Your child is also an adult. If there’s bullying and sexual harassment, it’s better to send him in early to receive national education. If he gets older, it might ruin his future, and that’s not good.”
Mr. Du’s face turned purple.
There was nothing he could do. Meng Zhengyue was being a little arrogant, borrowing Yun Jing’s power.
Yun Jing indulged her and looked at Du Mingxiao, who was pretending to be asleep on the bed. She said faintly, “As long as no one died, it’s fine. What do you think, Mr. Du?”
Mr. Du gritted his teeth, cursing angrily in his heart.
He would get his revenge on this b1tch Meng Zhengyue once she and Yun Jing broke up.
Meng Zhengyue said calmly, “Only when things are handled properly will the child have a strong foundation in the future.” She raised an eyebrow and looked at Yun Jing. “Child’s mother, you handle the rest. I’m an outsider after all. I’ll wait for you outside.”
Yun Jing’s heart felt itchy.
Just one sentence made her feel flirty. Meng Zhengyue was very suitable to be a wife. There was a certain quality about her that was gentle and made people think of marriage. Even though she didn’t love her child that much, she really liked this quality about Meng Zhengyue.
Mr. Du cursed furiously in his heart. “You b1tch, just you wait. As long as you and Yun Jing break up, I’ll kill you in three months.”
Yun Jing said, “Mr. Du, control your gaze. What if she’s my future wife? Do you think I’d treat her badly for helping my daughter?”
Mr. Du was stunned when he heard this.
Yun Jing getting married?
“It’s a little hard to kill you in three months, but it’s very easy to make sure your son doesn’t recover,” Yun Jing said. “Did you forget to tell your son when you were disciplining him not to mess with Yun Zhixue? She’s her mother’s only daughter.”
Mr. Du finally understood. Meng Zhengyue dared to make a move because Yun Jing was a lunatic. Just because she didn’t love her daughter didn’t mean others could harm her daughter.
Du Cheng’s face was purple with anger. “Ms. Yun, I will definitely discipline my son. He will change. Can you…”
“No.”
Yun Jing picked up the bouquet of flowers she had brought and pressed it hard against Du Mingxiao’s face. Du Mingxiao’s nose was filled with the scent of pollen. He was almost suffocated and was screaming on the bed.
“Yun Zhixue is my daughter, my only daughter. Do you understand?”
“Ms. Yun, I understand, I understand,” Mr. Du almost knelt down to her.
Yun Jing took out a tissue and wiped the pollen from her fingers. “This is a flower my daughter sent to visit a patient. I’ve delivered it for her. Next time, I’ll send it to the cemetery.”
Meng Zhengyue hadn’t left yet. When she came out, she handed a stack of reports to Yun Jing. There was no flirty charm, only accusation.
“Do you know that your daughter is very lacking in maternal love? The doctor said she’s stressed and needs her mother’s companionship. And you scolded her today? What kind of mother are you?”
“She’s so stressed that she’s entered the oral stage. She likes to bite her fingers because she doesn’t have a mother to give her a sense of security. She’s anxious and distracted every day.” Thinking of the culprit of all this, Meng Zhengyue said coldly, “Ms. Yun, break his legs for me.”
Yun Jing had just finished her business and hadn’t even gotten a smile yet when she was scolded. Her mind was buzzing, and she couldn’t argue. She looked at the check-up report. At 37, she was diagnosed by a doctor with: a twisted love with her 18-year-old daughter.
“Am I supposed to start breastfeeding her now? Or sleep with her to build a relationship? The doctor must be joking.”
Meng Zhengyue took out the appointment slip she had helped make. “Ms. Yun, take a look. You’re also very ill.”
