Deceased Mother's Inheritance - Chapter 22.2
Chapter 22.2: Meng Zhengyue kissed her.
She held a pen and wrote on a piece of paper, then stuck it on the wall. “Weigh yourself every day from now on.”
Yun Zhixue looked at her in confusion.
“I want to make you a little healthier,” Meng Zhengyue said, pinching her arm. “You’re all bone. It’s uncomfortable to hug you.”
Yun Zhixue said seriously and earnestly, “Mommy, I’ll eat well.”
Especially after being hugged by Meng Zhengyue, she hated being separated from her and wanted to cling to her. “What’s wrong with me… What kind of illness is this?”
…
Yun Zhixue was wearing the red princess dress that Meng Zhengyue had given her. It was a camisole with bare shoulders and puffy sleeves. When Meng Zhengyue bought it, she thought it was perfect for her.
Meng Zhengyue wanted to take her out.
Yun Zhixue went to get her sneakers, tied the laces, and then asked, “Mommy, where are we going?”
Meng Zhengyue said, “It’s not a good place.”
Yun Zhixue looked at her anxiously, but when Meng Zhengyue opened the car door, she still got into the passenger seat.
Meng Zhengyue thought, “This child is so interesting.”
Afterward, Meng Zhengyue parked the car in front of a stylist’s shop and said, “I’m taking you to get a haircut.”
Yun Zhixue was slightly stunned.
Meng Zhengyue remembered that she had been very resistant to getting her hair cut before. Her tone softened. “Honey, it’s summer. Let’s just trim it a little. It’ll grow back quickly.”
Yun Zhixue listened to her comforting her. She loved this gentle way of speaking and wanted to be spoiled and cherished by Mommy.
When they entered the shop, Meng Zhengyue was still telling her to “be a good girl.” Yun Zhixue didn’t not want to get a haircut. She just wanted to be coaxed, as if she were surrounded by a full amount of love.
The people in the shop seemed to know Meng Zhengyue well. Meng Zhengyue greeted them one by one. One person was holding a painting. Meng Zhengyue walked over and said, “Qiuri.”
The woman holding the painting smiled. She saw Yun Zhixue next to her and asked, “Who is this?”
“Yun Jing’s daughter,” Meng Zhengyue introduced. She then said to Yun Zhixue, “She’s my good friend, a painter.”
Xue Qiuri handed the painting to the worker on the chair, walked over, and said, “She looks quite a bit like her.”
Yun Zhixue carefully observed Xue Qiuri. Xue Qiuri was very beautiful with straight hair and the elegant demeanor of an artist. She also spoke softly. She always felt that Xue Qiuri’s voice was a little familiar, but she couldn’t remember where she had heard it. Her mind kept thinking, “This person doesn’t seem to be ‘Baomei.'”
She lightly bit her lip and politely said, “Hello.”
The stylist came over with a pair of scissors and asked Meng Zhengyue, “Do you want to go first?”
“No, my darling first.”
Yun Zhixue’s lips couldn’t help but move. She smiled. She quickly composed herself. Meng Zhengyue saw it and hissed, “What are you laughing at?”
Yun Zhixue pursed her lips and shook her head, not telling her.
The stylist started cutting Yun Zhixue’s hair. Meng Zhengyue stood by and chatted with Xue Qiuri about the paintings on the wall, saying that they were collecting dust there.
Xue Qiuri: “It’s the same no matter where they’re hung.”
Meng Zhengyue turned to look at Yun Zhixue. “Do you want to paint a portrait of my darling next time?” Then she started pointing out things here and there. The stylist handed the scissors to her hand. “…Do you want to do it yourself?”
Meng Zhengyue hissed. “Forget it.”
“Talk less,” the stylist continued to cut.
“But, I still think…”
“Meng Zhengyue! Get out!”
Meng Zhengyue pursed her lips hard. “One last thing. I still think you shouldn’t cut the sides, because I especially like to lift her hair here.” Then, she got up and went outside with Xue Qiuri to talk about painting a portrait for Yun Zhixue.
The stylist shook his head. He saw Yun Zhixue was very well-behaved in the mirror and said, “I’ve never seen you before. What is Meng Zhengyue to you? She seems to care a lot about you…”
Yun Zhixue clasped her hands together. She liked to call Meng Zhengyue “Mommy,” but… she didn’t want to say that Meng Zhengyue was “Mommy” at this moment, because then people would first think of Yun Jing.
Yun Zhixue was a little cunning. “You guess.”
“I’ll guess…” The stylist laughed, deliberately teasing her. “Are you her little girlfriend?”
Yun Zhixue’s face instantly turned red. Her lips moved, and she asked, “Did she… ever have a little girlfriend?”
“I don’t know, but you’re the first person she’s ever brought here to get a haircut.”
Yun Zhixue was so happy to hear that.
Everything felt blurry to her now.
Yun Zhixue asked again, “What’s your name?”
“I’m known as Teacher Tony in the industry. You can also call me Mini. Just call me Teacher Xiao Mi.”
This one wasn’t “Baomei” either.
Teacher Mini’s skills were superb. He trimmed Yun Zhixue’s hair to below her waist. Although it wasn’t as long as before, it was beautiful when it was down or braided. The side bangs were also trimmed and given a slight curl, which made her even prettier. Most importantly, it felt better to the touch.
Yun Zhixue was a little nervous when she came out. When Meng Zhengyue was on the phone, she turned her head to look at her. Her tense expression immediately softened, and she smiled, saying, “My beautiful darling.”
Mini snorted. “Are you still going to give me pointers?”
Meng Zhengyue laughed. She transferred the payment. After Xue Qiuri finished her work, she came over and asked, “Do you want to have dinner together today? With the little one?”
Meng Zhengyue shook her head and said, “I have other plans.”
She opened the car door for Yun Zhixue to get in. Meng Zhengyue closed the door and lifted her bangs. Yun Zhixue could see that Mommy liked it very much. She turned her head and said to Mini, “Teacher Xiao Mi, thank you.”
The two of them waved at her. “Bye-bye.”
Meng Zhengyue put on a song in the car. There wasn’t much traffic on the road. Half an hour later, they stopped in front of a restaurant.
The environment inside was good. It was by the river, and the reserved table had a view of the river.
It was sunset.
The college entrance exam was just one question in the long scroll of life, far from the end. The end of this exam was more like a mark of growth: on this irreversible journey, the young girl had finally arrived at her first important stop.
Meng Zhengyue looked at her and said, “Congratulations.”
Yun Zhixue looked up in confusion. Just then, a waiter came over with a cake. There was a candle in the middle of the cake.
Meng Zhengyue’s hand was on the back of hers. She said softly, “Come on, little one. Let’s celebrate. Congratulations on finishing high school.”
Yun Zhixue was stunned.
She had never celebrated her birthday before, so she had never eaten a cake.
When the cake was placed on the table, she could clearly see the words written on it.
“Congratulations to little Yun Zhixue on walking through the first landmark of her life.”
Yun Zhixue kept looking at her, as if she had been frozen. Meng Zhengyue said, “Come back to your senses, honey. Make a wish.”
“But this isn’t my birthday.”
“We’re celebrating the end of your college entrance exam. I should have planned this for you yesterday, but it’s okay. I hope it’s not too late now.” Meng Zhengyue lit the last candle for her.
Yun Zhixue’s nose felt sore. She clasped her hands together and asked before making a wish, “Mommy, will my wish come true?”
Meng Zhengyue replied, “Of course.”
Yun Zhixue said in her heart.
“I hope Mommy can… kiss me.”
Meng Zhengyue saw that she hadn’t opened her eyes for a long time. She asked curiously, “What’s your wish?”
Yun Zhixue didn’t speak. Her eyes were still closed. She quietly said in her heart: “Love me forever.”
Meng Zhengyue took the cake knife and asked her which piece she wanted to eat. Yun Zhixue looked at it seriously and said, “Mommy, your name should be on it too.”
Meng Zhengyue laughed. “Do you want it to say, ‘Given by Meng Zhengyue’?”
Yun Zhixue was thinking just that. She smiled and said “mm” with force. Meng Zhengyue was slightly stunned. It was nothing. The little girl’s smile was very cute. She accidentally touched the buttercream flower with her finger. She was too lazy to wipe it off, so she lifted her hand and licked the little bit that was on the back of her hand.
There were many cake designs now. Meng Zhengyue had specially asked the shop to design it based on Yun Zhixue’s name. It also had a long-haired girl on it.
She cut the cloud from the cake and placed it next to Yun Zhixue.
Yun Zhixue said, “Mommy, can we take the leftover cake back?”
“Yes, we can.”
Meng Zhengyue had ordered an eight-inch cake. They definitely couldn’t finish it. But the weather was hot, so she said, “You can eat it for one more day tomorrow. If you don’t finish it, you’ll have to throw it away.”
“I know,” Yun Zhixue said, putting a bite into her mouth. It was sweet and light. She loved it.
Meng Zhengyue asked, “What would you have done if I hadn’t taken you out?”
Yun Zhixue said, “Before, I would just read books at home.”
“Just read books?”
Yun Zhixue said, “I would also go upstairs to look at the little birds.”
She was a little embarrassed. “I was in the hospital, so I didn’t get to see them this year.”
Meng Zhengyue suddenly understood why she knew so many trees. “You like trees and little birds?”
Yun Zhixue nodded.
Meng Zhengyue found that she had her own little world where she could find happiness. She asked, “Do you spend every summer vacation alone?”
Yun Zhixue looked at Meng Zhengyue with anticipation. Meng Zhengyue said, “Don’t look at me like that. I said I’ll take you out to play. You won’t be able to stay by your bird’s nest this year.”
Yun Zhixue immediately smiled and continued to put cake in her mouth.
Meng Zhengyue took out a large black box and pushed it to Yun Zhixue. Yun Zhixue had a keen sense of smell.
Meng Zhengyue said, “Your graduation gift.”
Yun Zhixue’s nose felt sore with emotion. She gently opened the box. Inside were pink roses, and in the middle of the roses was a silver box.
She opened it and saw a snowflake-designed necklace.
It was sparkling and very bright under the lights.
“Thank you, Mommy.” Yun Zhixue wanted to cry. She reached out to touch it, then pulled her hand back and looked at Meng Zhengyue. She said the same thing again. “Thank you, Mommy.”
“You like it, right?”
“I love it.”
Yun Zhixue nodded hard.
Meng Zhengyue saw that she hadn’t moved for a long time. She got up, picked up the necklace, and stood behind Yun Zhixue. She gently put it on her.
She also thoughtfully took a mirror out of her bag. She stood the mirror on the table and lifted the hair around Yun Zhixue’s neck to her shoulders so she could see.
Meng Zhengyue straightened the snowflake’s position. The beautiful snowflake rested next to her delicate collarbone and fell on her chest, which was thumping from her heart. Yun Zhixue held her hand, looked up at her, and said, “Mommy…”
She looked like she was about to cry again. Meng Zhengyue gently touched her nose with her middle finger and said seriously, “Honey, congratulations on bravely walking through this landmark of the college entrance exam. Little warrior, please continue on to your new adventure. Don’t be afraid, because the future is bright.”
Perhaps the little girl looked too much like she was about to cry. Since she had already done what a mother should do, she no longer held back. She lowered her head and placed a kiss on the little girl’s forehead.
A dream come true.
“…She kissed me?”
“She loves me…”
