This Director Is Not To Be Trifled With - Chapter 28
Song Xian thought it was probably time to change the passcode on her door lock. Jiang Chen, that damn woman, had shown up at her house unannounced again. Sure, it wasn’t the first time this had happened over the years, but why today of all days?
They had known each other for over a decade. Even if they’d seen each other naked before, this moment still felt like the pinnacle of social death-level awkwardness.
But some things just had to be faced. The two of them sat up stiffly, awkwardly adjusting their clothes.
Under such circumstances, of course Xiao Yutong wouldn’t stay any longer. She made up an excuse and quickly fled home. This was, without a doubt, the most embarrassing and humiliating moment in her thirty years of life.
“So that’s the famous Director Xiao. She’s definitely hot. So sexy,” Jiang Chen said while lying on the sofa, massaging Song Xian’s shoulders.
“Cut the crap. Why are you here? And hiding behind the sofa? What were you trying to do?” Song Xian had no intention of showing mercy to the culprit who ruined her moment.
“Hiding? Please.” Jiang Chen pointed behind the sofa. She had been doing yoga back there when Song Xian and Xiao Yutong suddenly came bursting in, immediately starting to get intimate. It left her stuck whether to make a sound or stay silent, she couldn’t win.
“You didn’t even text before coming,” Song Xian said.
“When have I ever texted before coming to your place?” Jiang Chen shot back.
Fair point. Her home had long become Jiang Chen’s second home. They were used to it by now. Jiang Chen finished her yoga with a final stretch, giving Song Xian a mischievous look.
She nudged Song Xian with her shoulder and mimicked her tone, “Jiejie Jiejie”
“Song Xian, you’re something else. Didn’t think you were like that in bed. So with Director Xiao, you’re the bottom, huh?” Jiang Chen burst out laughing like she’d discovered something scandalous.
Song Xian was momentarily speechless. “Jiang Chen, do you want to see tomorrow’s sunrise? And besides, what’s wrong with being the bottom? You, a power-bottom zero, have zero right to laugh at me.”
The two of them bickered and bantered for a while. Jiang Chen had come to drop off some medication, only to find that Song Xian still had a bunch left that she should’ve finished already. After some scolding, their conversation drifted to Jiang Chen’s “jiejie,” and they decided to set up a meeting for next weekend so Song Xian could check her out.
After getting ready for bed, it was already past 1 a.m. Song Xian couldn’t stop thinking about Xiao Yutong. She wanted to go find her downstairs, but it was too late. Xiao Yutong was probably asleep by now, and she didn’t have a key to her place. Waking her up to open the door didn’t seem right, so she held back and went to sleep hugging her pillow.
But after that kind of social death moment, how could Xiao Yutong possibly fall asleep? Every time she closed her eyes, all she could see was Jiang Chen staring at the two of them. She finally dozed off, only to dream about people walking in on her and Song Xian in bed. She woke up startled three or four times that night.
As a result, she woke up late the next morning. Luckily, it was the weekend, so she could sleep in. But she had something important to do that day.
Yes Zhao Qianwen’s wedding was today. Everything was ready, all that was missing was someone to accompany her. She had originally planned to ask Jiang Lan to play the role, but Jiang Lan had work that day. That left Xiao Yutong in a bind. After some consideration, she decided to ask Song Xian.
After all, in the contract, Song Xian had an obligation to accompany her and play various roles at different events. She had no reason and no right to refuse.
More importantly, Xiao Yutong figured that crashing an ex’s wedding was exactly the kind of thing Song Xian would enjoy. Who knew, it might even bring some unexpected surprises.
Not knowing if Jiang Chen had left yet, she didn’t go upstairs. Instead, she called Song Xian.
“Hello?” Song Xian’s voice clearly sounded half-asleep.
“Do you have time?” Xiao Yutong asked.
Hearing her voice, Song Xian instantly woke up, bolting upright in bed.
“For Director Xiao? Of course, always,” Song Xian said. “But what exactly do you need me to do?”
“Come with me to my ex’s wedding. I want to give her a big present,” said Xiao Yutong.
Now Song Xian was fully awake. She jumped out of bed with a shout, startling Jiang Chen next door, who came running over.
Disheveled and still hugging her pillow, Jiang Chen shouted, “What happened?!”
Song Xian rushed to the door barefoot and picked Jiang Chen up in a spin. “Xiao Yutong invited me to her ex’s wedding!”
“Her ex’s wedding?!” Jiang Chen repeated to make sure she heard correctly.
These days, you could be casual on a date, even sloppy meeting your own partner but when it came to your partner’s ex? Never.
Song Xian snapped into battle mode. After confirming the time and location with Xiao Yutong, she had Jiang Chen drive her out immediately. She was determined not to embarrass Xiao Yutong in front of her ex.
The wedding was at noon. By 11:00 a.m., Xiao Yutong was already standing outside the hotel venue.
There were two couples getting married that day. Two large posters were on display outside. One of them showed Liu Qianwen with her arm hooked around a man’s, smiling brightly though whether that smile was real or fake was anyone’s guess. The woman could put on a show like no one else.
Xiao Yutong stepped closer, staring at that familiar face. “Go ahead and smile,” she thought. “You won’t be smiling much longer.”
She followed the crowd into the wedding hall but soon stepped back out to the entrance. There were still thirty minutes to go. Would Song Xian ditch her?
She quickly dialed Song Xian’s number.
A cold mechanical voice responded: “The number you dialed is currently busy. Please try again later.”
“Song Xian, if you dare ghost me, just try it,” she muttered, switching to WeChat and sending a message:
Xiao Yutong: 【Where are you?】
One minute passed. Then two. Then ten. Still no reply. The ceremony was about to begin. She couldn’t wait any longer and was about to go in alone.
Just as she turned around, a loud rumble echoed behind her. A luxury car pulled up with a thunderous engine, drawing everyone’s attention.
Xiao Yutong also paused, curious about the spectacle.
The car doors opened automatically, lifting upward. A slender, fair leg stepped out first, followed by a tall, elegant woman whose beauty overshadowed even the flashy car.
Her long black hair was loosely curled, pinned back casually. Her skin glowed in the sunlight. That striking face, usually lightly made up, now bore a fully glamorous look less heroic and more sultry.
She wore a long red gown again, but not the same one as the first time they met. Today’s outfit was clearly more formal and elegant, befitting a dinner party socialite but without the pretentious airs. This was exactly how Song Xian looked that night when she first captivated Xiao Yutong.
Before she knew it, Song Xian was beside her. She was in flats, while Song Xian wore towering heels—tall enough to make Xiao Yutong feel petite.
“You’re seriously dressed like this?” Song Xian asked, stunned.
To be fair, Xiao Yutong’s outfit today was more casual than her usual office wear. But she had her reasons.
She looked Song Xian up and down in return. “You’re one to talk. Dressed like this, people might mistake you for the bride.”
“And what’s with the whole showy entrance?” she added, referring to the car.
“I was trying to make you look good! If I’d known they weren’t standing outside, I wouldn’t have rented that stupid thing. It cost a fortune. You better reimburse me,” Song Xian said with a heartbroken expression.
Xiao Yutong gave her another once-over, stopping at the sky high heels, already dreading their escape route later.
At noon sharp, the ceremony began. Xiao Yutong and Song Xian sat in the front row. That offhand comment from earlier had come true Song Xian was the center of attention from the moment they entered. She was simply too striking.
The wedding design was almost identical to the one she had once planned herself. Clearly, Liu Qianwen had stolen her ideas, just like she had stolen so many other things.
The wedding march played as the groom stood in the center. The bride, escorted by family, made her way toward him.
Song Xian leaned over and whispered in Xiao Yutong’s ear, “Your ex’s taste is really going downhill.”
Xiao Yutong gave her a sideways glance.
Song Xian grinned, “Though your past taste wasn’t great either. But you’ve improved.”
Xiao Yutong gave her a subtle elbow jab. “Shut up and just watch.”
Song Xian clutched her chest and pouted, taking a sip of wine. Watch the show? Clearly, Xiao Yutong had brought an impressive “gift.” Wait… a sudden realization hit Song Xian. She nearly choked on her drink.
She glanced down at her skyscraper heels and suddenly lost all desire for drama, her face full of dread.
Liu Qianwen’s father handed her over to the groom. As Liu Qianwen scanned the audience, her eyes met Xiao Yutong’s. Xiao raised her glass with a sly, mocking smile. Liu Qianwen’s own smile stiffened the moment she saw her.
Then came the wedding slideshow photos of the couple traveling, dating, all with timestamps and cheesy love quotes.
Song Xian sneaked a look at Xiao Yutong. She seemed calm, unfazed. Typical of her not one to show emotions, even if she was feeling something inside.
Next came the blessing segment. Family and friends took turns giving their congratulations. The emcee announced: “One final spot left anyone else want to give their blessing?”
The guests looked around.
Song Xian, who had long lost interest, was now watching videos on her phone. But then she heard a voice beside her:
“I do. I’ll go.”
It was Xiao Yutong.
Song Xian’s eyes lit up. Ah, it’s starting. The grand show prepared by Director Xiao. She quickly sat up, ready for the drama to unfold.
