This Director Is Not To Be Trifled With - Chapter 32
The kiss came so fiercely that Song Xian was caught off guard. She hadn’t been sitting steadily to begin with, and on top of that, her lower back was already injured. When Xiao Yutong leaned in, she fell backward. Since she’d been sitting on the edge of the sofa, she fell off crashing down with someone on top of her and ended up straining her back.
There were only regular cold medications in Xiao Yutong’s home. The medicine for her injury was something Xiao Yutong had just gone downstairs to buy.
Xiao Yutong sprayed the medicine onto her hand, and a pungent medicinal smell filled the entire living room. Song Xian cooperatively lifted her shirt, revealing a large bruise on her lower back.
“How did you end up with such a big bruise?” Only then did Xiao Yutong realize it might’ve happened at the supermarket. “Didn’t you say earlier you didn’t get hit?”
Concern flashed in Xiao Yutong’s eyes.
Song Xian replied, “Oh, this little injury? It’s nothing. Don’t forget, I’m”
“The Taekwondo champion of Qingchuan City, right?” Xiao Yutong cut her off.
Song Xian corrected her, “Runner-up.”
“Fine, fine, runner-up. But our dear runner-up is pretty fragile, huh? Throwing out her back this easily? Not as tough as me, a thirty-year-old auntie.” Xiao Yutong massaged the bruised area as she teased, but inside she felt deeply distressed.
The wounds on her face had just healed, and now she had new injuries. Though she looked like an adult, she was still just a kid.
“Director Xiao,” Song Xian propped her head up with one hand, her eyes deep and alluring, as if she were expecting some sort of reward. “Would this count as a work injury? I did it while serving you.”
“Of course. And didn’t I buy you medicine? Even applying it personally. Isn’t that enough?” Seeing the look on Song Xian’s face, she could tell another strange request was about to follow. She had to stop that in its tracks.
She deliberately pressed a bit harder while massaging, as punishment.
“Of course it’s not enough, Director Xiao.” Song Xian suddenly sat up, leaned in close, and took off the trench coat she had thrown on earlier to buy medicine, revealing a sexy nightdress beneath.
“Jiejie*, now it’s my turn to give you a massage.”
(*Note: “Jiejie” means “older sister” and is sometimes used flirtatiously in Chinese.)
Even though Song Xian had hurt her back, she was still so bold. The next day, Xiao Yutong slept straight into the afternoon. When she woke up, Song Xian was already gone. There was a prepared meal in the kitchen, and a note left behind.
Song Xian: “Had to go out for something. Don’t forget to eat.”
Xiao Yutong crumpled the note, ready to throw it away. But a thought crossed her mind, and instead, she decided to keep it.
Song Xian had received a call from Shen Qingjia early that morning. The tone had been commanding, telling her to meet Shen Qingjia’s daughter. If this were in the past, she would’ve been thrilled. But now, she was only interested in Xiao Yutong.
Still, meeting once wouldn’t hurt. She couldn’t directly reject Shen Qingjia, but if she could make her daughter dislike her, that would be perfect. The problem was…
She’d spent a long time in front of the mirror before heading out. She was simply too attractive it would be hard for any girl to dislike her.
The meeting spot was a downtown café. She couldn’t understand why it had to be a café. Such a quiet place wouldn’t do anything to stir hormones between two people.
But since her goal was for the date to fail, it didn’t matter.
Tardiness was usually a dealbreaker, especially on a first date. It would ruin most of the first impression. So Song Xian decided to be late on purpose she showed up twenty minutes late. But to her surprise, the other party was even later than her.
She kept checking the time on her phone, fingers drumming the table impatiently. That woman was now thirty minutes late. Song Xian could wait patiently for someone she liked but for a complete stranger? No way.
She thought, Five more minutes. If she still doesn’t show, I’m out. The contract is signed anyway long term cooperation can be handled by someone higher up. I’m just a rookie. Can I really determine the fate of the company?
Thankfully, the other person showed up at the last minute.
Their code was a bouquet of champagne roses. A woman in heels, holding the roses, walked through the door, removed her sunglasses, and was greeted by the server.
Song Xian’s seat was a bit far from the entrance, so she couldn’t see the woman’s face clearly. All she could tell was that her figure and aura were far inferior to Xiao Yutong’s.
But as the woman approached, Song Xian’s eyes widened in shock. She quickly opened the picture Shen Qingjia had sent her on WeChat the one she had never bothered to download before. Why hadn’t she opened it?
The image finished downloading. She zoomed in and compared it with the girl walking toward her.
Her brain buzzed Shen Qingjia’s daughter was actually Pei Zixuan.
Is the universe messing with me? she thought. Why must both mother and daughter come to torment me?
Pei Zixuan: “So it turns out my mom set me up with you, Song Xian-jie. If I’d known, I would’ve come earlier.”
Song Xian was still stunned. While she was in a daze, Pei Zixuan had already sat down across from her, casually tossing the roses onto the seat next to her.
Pei Zixuan: “What’s wrong? Surprised? To be honest, I was too.”
Sure didn’t seem like it, Song Xian thought. You didn’t look surprised at all.
Song Xian asked, “Wait, are you really Shen Qingjia’s daughter?”
She didn’t actually doubt it she just needed to double-check.
Pei Zixuan: “Absolutely, one hundred percent.”
She didn’t seem offended by the question. In fact, she joked, “We don’t look alike, huh?”
Song Xian nodded. “Not really.” The difference between their looks was huge. Compared to Shen Qingjia, Pei Zixuan was like a mutated beauty.
Pei Zixuan: “I take after my dad.”
Song Xian chuckled awkwardly, muttering under her breath, “Shen always did have money.”
Pei Zixuan: “Yep. My dad married my mom for money.”
What Song Xian thought she’d said quietly, Pei Zixuan had clearly heard. She felt a little embarrassed.
Pei Zixuan: “Don’t worry about it everyone knows.”
Usually, Song Xian was great at talking and banter. But Pei Zixuan was even better. Their chat started casually and became more relaxed. Although it was technically a date, it felt more like two buddies hanging out. They even changed locations to a small tavern with good drinks.
Pei Zixuan: “How desperate is your mom to get you married off at nineteen?”
Pei Zixuan: “She’s probably afraid I won’t live that long.”
She took another swig and said, “But wow, her taste is terrible. How could she possibly like you?”
Song Xian: “Hey, what’s that supposed to mean? I’m that bad?”
She’d always been a top student in everything how could she be “bad”?
Pei Zixuan: “Very bad.”
They were both getting tipsy. Song Xian slammed her hand on the table, “You listen here. I, Song Xian, have never been called bad.”
Pei Zixuan, now swaying with a bottle of liquor in hand, grabbed Song Xian by the collar. “If you don’t believe me, come with me next Saturday.”
People at nearby tables gave them strange looks. The owner rushed over, thinking they were about to fight, but before he could speak, Pei Zixuan let go.
Pei Zixuan: “Boss, bill please.”
After paying, she staggered off with her bottle. Song Xian, who had rushed out in the morning without breakfast, hadn’t eaten much of the side dishes either. The alcohol hit her hard.
She lay on the table, fast asleep. The owner was worried something would happen to her, so he got a waiter to keep an eye on her. But the place was busy, and manpower was short, so he was about to call the police just as her phone rang.
It was Xiao Yutong calling.
Today was her scheduled cleaning day. Everything she’d messed up during the week would be tidied up on this day, so she could start Monday fresh.
Song Xian had been coming over frequently lately, so things weren’t too messy. She finished tidying up in about an hour. Sitting on the sofa, she thought about what had happened there the night before and blushed.
She wondered where Song Xian had gone and whether things had gone well. They’d agreed to keep things physical no love, no interference in personal lives unless there was cheating. She wanted to call Song Xian, but hesitated for a long time before dialing using a flimsy excuse as cover.
When the call connected, a man’s voice answered shocking her. After confirming it was Song Xian’s phone, her heart sank. Had something happened?
Thankfully, the man just told her Song Xian was drunk and asked her to pick her up.
When Xiao Yutong arrived at the restaurant, Song Xian was still out cold. She asked the owner who Song Xian had been drinking with not out of nosiness, just concern.
The owner saw her intentions clearly. “It was a young girl. And don’t worry, I had one of the staff keep an eye on her. Nothing bad happened. If you want to be sure, we have surveillance footage you can check.”
The boss seemed genuine, and Xiao Yutong didn’t want to make things difficult.
Xiao Yutong: “That won’t be necessary. Thank you for looking after my friend.”
“Song Xian, Song Xian.” Xiao Yutong gently patted her. Song Xian raised her head, eyes glazed. When she saw Xiao Yutong, she immediately hugged her neck.
Song Xian: “Jiejie, you’re here… I missed you so much.”
Xiao Yutong thought to herself: Yeah, I can tell. You missed me so much you got drunk with another girl.
It took considerable effort to get her into the car. Xiao Yutong adjusted the seat, rolled down the window, took out her tablet from the backseat, and started working. She wasn’t in a rush she planned to let Song Xian sleep it off.
Though the weather was hot, the parking lot had plenty of trees. Their car was shaded and cool. But strangely, Song Xian was sweating and tossing in her sleep, clearly uncomfortable.
Xiao Yutong fetched a jacket from the backseat, draped it over her, and turned on the AC. It worked Song Xian seemed to settle down.
Xiao Yutong went back to work. But not long after, she heard Song Xian mumbling.
Song Xian: “I’m sorry… I’m sorry…”
Though the words were faint, she could hear the sobbing in her voice.
Then Song Xian said, “No, no… don’t come any closer…”
Xiao Yutong realized she might be having a nightmare. She tried to wake her.
“Song Xian. Song Xian”
Suddenly, someone honked nearby, startling both of them.
Song Xian jolted awake with a terrified shout: “Stop! Don’t!”
Her face was pale, drenched in sweat.
