This Director Is Not To Be Trifled With - Chapter 38
The company welcomed a new case. After an evening of discussion among the executives, it was decided to form a temporary team from the Client Services Department and the Design Department to travel to R City. The two directors each selected a few people from their departments, forming a six person team.
The list drafted by Xiao Yutong included Song Xian and Zhang Xin, along with Li Siyu, the leader of Group 2. The business trip was scheduled for Sunday, which coincidentally did not affect Song Xian’s prior arrangements.
Almost a month had passed since she joined the company, and almost a month since she met Xiao Yutong. Her feelings for Xiao Yutong had not diminished at all; instead, they were increasing daily.
“Song Xian, it looks like you, the ‘Sea King’ (player), are about to be caught by a line,” Jiang Chen felt, after hearing Song Xian’s inner journey, that this woman was completely captivated by Director Xiao.
“If it’s her, I’m willing to jump out of my pond,” Song Xian said, her face full of bliss. Although she and Xiao Yutong were still playing the cliché contract relationship game, as long as she could be with her, any means or reason was acceptable.
“What if she’s also a ‘Sea King’?” Jiang Chen joked.
“Then I’ll be the shark, and eat all the fish in her pond,” Song Xian shrugged, appearing relaxed. She didn’t know if she was confident in Xiao Yutong or herself.
Song Xian: “By the way, where is she?”
The two had been sitting there for half an hour, waiting for Jiang Chen’s girlfriend. Being late for the first meeting with a girlfriend’s friend seemed impolite.
Song Xian didn’t have high standards for herself, but she wasn’t so casual about her best friend’s partner.
The person arrived the moment Song Xian finished speaking.
Dressed in a casual suit jacket, with shoulder-length hair, about 1.7 meters tall, she looked quite cool and stylish the type that Jiang Chen, a self-proclaimed homebody, liked.
The person was very beautiful, but compared to her Director Xiao? Still a bit lacking. She didn’t have Xiao Yutong’s gentle charm and sexiness. In short, in Song Xian’s eyes, if Xiao Yutong ranked second, no one could rank first.
“Sorry, I just finished work and made you wait.”
Jiang Chen immediately took the bag from the person’s hand, “It’s okay, we didn’t wait too long.”
Song Xian quietly snorted, complaining internally: Clearly, we waited a long time.
Jiang Chen was notoriously known for prioritizing her lover over friends. If Song Xian was late by even a minute, Jiang Chen would nag for half an hour. Now, she was actually capable of saying such a thing.
Song Xian: “Chenchen, introduce us!”
“This is Song Xian, my best friend. Song Xian, this is Jiang Lan, my girlfriend.” When introducing Jiang Lan, Jiang Chen even shyly blushed, an expression that made Song Xian want to hit her.
“Jiang Lan, you don’t mind if I call you by your name directly, right? Although I’m younger than you, you’re Chenchen’s girlfriend.” Song Xian’s first impression of Jiang Lan wasn’t great, but she couldn’t pinpoint why. It was just a feeling, perhaps some people’s magnetic fields are naturally mutually repulsive, just like she and Xiao Yutong were mutually attractive.
Jiang Lan: “Of course not. If you called me ‘Jie’ (older sister), I’d feel old.”
During the meal, Song Xian kept observing Jiang Lan. Jiang Lan was extremely attentive to Jiang Chen, serving her food and getting her napkins, yet Song Xian always felt something was missing.
Halfway through the meal, Song Xian sent a signal to Jiang Chen. She deliberately knocked over her cup. At this point, Jiang Chen would use the excuse of going to the restroom, and Song Xian could start her interrogation.
As soon as Jiang Chen left, Song Xian launched her attack, “Chenchen and I have been friends since childhood. You won’t mind the occasional intimate gestures, right?”
Jiang Lan had an understanding look: “Of course not.”
Song Xian: “Exactly. After all, who doesn’t have a few close friends to talk to, so you should be able to understand.”
Jiang Lan: “What do you mean by that, Miss Song? Did Jiang Chen ask you to ask?”
Jiang Lan got straight to the point. Song Xian hadn’t expected her to be so direct. She felt a bit flustered, but outwardly, she managed to maintain her composure, at least she thought so.
She kept running into people lately who left her at a loss for words.
“Xianxian.”
Things were already bad enough, but Providence sent her a huge surprise, right in front of Jiang Lan.
A voice suddenly appeared behind her. The voice was unfamiliar, but it was definitely calling her name. Song Xian turned around; it was a beautiful girl, very familiar, but Song Xian couldn’t recall who she was.
Song Xian: “You are?”
“Did you forget me so quickly? That morning, you left in such a hurry that I didn’t even get your number. I’ve been looking for you for a long time. I miss you so much, Xianxian.”
The girl completely threw herself onto Song Xian. Song Xian tried to break free. Jiang Lan looked on amused, “I think Miss Song should deal with her own matters first. You don’t need to worry about Chenchen and me.”
Jiang Chen stayed in the restroom for a while, thinking Song Xian had already handled things. When she returned, she found an extra person.
“This is?” Jiang Chen wondered if this was an actress Song Xian had hired, or outside help.
“Chenchen, I see Miss Song is busy, we should leave first!” Jiang Lan pulled the confused Jiang Chen away. Jiang Chen didn’t even have time to ask Song Xian what was going on, and Song Xian didn’t have time to ask her for help.
It took Song Xian a great deal of effort to finally shake off the woman’s entanglement. She had thoroughly lost this battle. Not only did she fail to help Jiang Chen, but she also ruined her own image completely.
While struggling with the woman, Song Xian suddenly remembered: this was a woman she had randomly picked up at a bar after a breakup. Both of them were drunk at the time, and they slept together without discussing it beforehand. Seeing how clingy she was, Song Xian was glad she had run away quickly back then.
Song Xian suddenly felt that her past self was a complete jerk.
Fortunately, Jiang Chen called later to say that Jiang Lan had confessed everything to her, otherwise, today would truly have been a complete failure.
Song Xian returned home to find Xiao Yutong asleep on the sofa. The house was as messy as ever. Song Xian dotingly knelt down to look at the beauty sleeping soundly, then quietly got up and tidied up the living room.
After tidying up, she went up to the seventeenth floor. She hadn’t drunk today, so it was a good time to take her medicine. Since Zhou Yao had brought up that incident, she hadn’t slept well and occasionally dreamed of some fragments these past few nights.
When she moved, she had brought over a long-forgotten item, which she hadn’t taken out until now. She rummaged through her boxes and pulled out a square object, which looked like a well-wrapped piece of wood. She leaned the wooden piece against the wall and carefully unwrapped the cloth layer by layer.
The main living room light was off, with only a few faint small lamps. A slender figure was stretched long by the light, half of the shadow cast onto the canvas that had just been uncovered.
The painting was bloody, seemingly a scene from hell. Half of a man’s body was jammed in the car window, bl00d flowing down his arm onto the ground. Perhaps because the weather was too hot, the bl00d seemed to be evaporating, letting off white steam.
A woman and a child lay in the middle of the road. The child was motionless, and the woman was struggling in agony. Another man got out of the truck, and as he walked to the center, he was hit by another truck coming from behind. All of this was seen from a little girl’s perspective.
Everyone has a dark side, and this painting concealed the darkness within Song Xian’s heart. Perhaps she had lived in the light for too long, and had forgotten that she was a demon crawled out from hell.
She stood in front of the painting for an unknown amount of time before she mechanically wrapped the painting back up, put it back in its place, returned to the sixteenth floor, opened the familiar door, climbed onto the sofa, and tightly hugged the person who could temporarily keep her in the light.
Song Xian: “Xiao Yutong, if I am a traveler lost in the darkness, please be my guiding light, okay?”
“Ah, that hurts.” Song Xian had just fallen asleep when she was woken up. The sound came from beside her ear. Before she even opened her eyes, someone’s elbow suddenly pressed into her stomach. “Ouch, my intestines are being squashed.”
“Ah, where, where? Did I press you?” Xiao Yutong knelt on the carpet, reaching out with both hands to feel Song Xian’s stomach.
“It’s nothing, I was tricking you.” It did hurt quite a bit, but it wasn’t broken. Song Xian remembered falling off the sofa in the middle of the night. Anyway, the weather was warm, and with the carpet on the floor, she figured she wouldn’t catch a cold, so she was too lazy to get up. Moreover, Xiao Yutong was lying right on top of her, and she couldn’t bear to wake her.
Song Xian rested her head on her hand, gazing at Xiao Yutong with a look of pure joy. She used to think that the saying about wanting to see your loved one as soon as you woke up was a lie, but experiencing it herself, she realized how wonderful it was.
The rising red sun shone on Xiao Yutong. The light passed through her hair, casting a reddish glow, and finally projected onto her fair, smooth skin. Her slightly trembling eyelashes also cast shadows due to the sunlight. Song Xian fantasized about how wonderful it would be to swing on those eyelashes.
Xiao Yutong’s ears felt hot from Song Xian’s gaze. The balcony door hadn’t been closed tightly, and a rogue breeze blew it open, pulling back the curtain which was originally only slightly ajar.
The area of light suddenly expanded. Xiao Yutong, afraid the strong light would shine into Song Xian’s eyes, quickly leaned down and covered them. Her soft hair brushed against Song Xian’s cheek, cool, ticklish, and pleasantly stimulating.
Song Xian: “What, Director Xiao, are you so impatient already?”
